I've got a business trip this weekend and it looks like the business will be wrapped up Saturday evening. I don't fly home until 7pm Sunday evening. So I'll have at least a few hours in New Haven and Hartford. Any suggestions on what to do with one day, or half day?

I live in CT do you have a car?

In New Haven you want to get pizza. The big 3 are Pepe’s, modern, and Sally’s. I would also check out Yale, their bookstore is great.

I would pass on Hartford. I would be more likely to hit a shore town. Mystic has a seaport, aquarium, and shopping village and a cute downtown.

What do you enjoy?

Edit: don’t eat at mystic pizza. Sure it was a movie but don’t. Get seafood if you are in mystic. Tons of great restaurants or you could hit one of the famous seafood shacks like abbots.

If you’re interested in museums, I recommend the Peabody Museum in New Haven. It’s a large natural history museum with dinosaurs and other artifacts. There’s also an art museum and one dedicated to British art, all on the campus of Yale University, all with free admission.

Hartford has the Connecticut Science Center and the Mark Twain house.

And don’t forget the Connecticut River Museum. A small museum that highlights the importance of the river to the development of the state and has a replica of an American Revolution submarine. Sometimes has exhibits of model boats as well.

Also nearby is the Florence Griswold dedicated to American Impressionism.

Gillette State Park is easily reached by crossing the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry which is the smallest in CT. The park has a model railroad that was big enough for people to ride in.

The Thimble Islands make for a peaceful boat ride or just hang out on the boardwalk for ice cream and seafood in whatever order you prefer.

I live close to New Haven. I would definitely try the pizza. We prefer Modern over Sally’s and Pepe’s. The Peabody museum is a good choice for a few hours. I like the Yale bookstore and that area too.

Not sure about Hartford. Have only been there for events.

Isn’t the dinosaur state park near or in Hartford? We visited Hartford once but not positive what we saw.

It’s in Rocky Hill. That’s 20 minutes north of New Haven, 10 minutes south of Hartford. Right off interstate 91.
