10 days of QSDP(UK Plan)-How much did we cost Disney? Update 8/9, last day on Page 4

Hope you don't mind, but I'm subbing just because a) you stayed in CSR and I'm staying there for the first time in October, and b) I love food!

Great report so far! And I like the tally of how much not spent!

Steffi xx

Joining in!
My that salmon looks yummy (both of the salmon dishes)! I had the shrimp at CHH, think it was before they offered the salmon. It was good too but the salmon looks like it beats it hands down!

We had the shrimp basket towards the end of our holiday/vacation and it was very nice too. I just LOVE salmon and ate it as many times as I could on our trip.

The salmon does look very good for cs and the food at Wolfgang Puck is always amazing. Lovely to see pictures of the Pepper Market breakfast buffet. We always stayed at CSR until Maya Grill stopped doing the buffet but the breakfast at PM looks pretty good too - bargain for a cs credit.

The Pepper Market buffet is good value on the QSDP but I'd never ever pay for it out of pocket.

How exciting :) The UK QSDP is such great value with the 2 snacks per day. We hardly actually 'ate' any of them, most of them ended up in our suitcase, which is probably why they have removed it for the U.S. for this year and the UK from next year as well.
We enjoyed CSR but probably won't stay there again unless we get it on a good offer again, it's a lovely resort but we were just unlucky with our room location

Day 5

We started the day by each eating an entire Rice Krispie pop(bought the night before), they are huge and I might have felt slightly sick afterwards, but they contain cereal, so count as breakfast, right?
So tasty and at almost $5 such great value for a snack credit.

I initially had planned a shopping trip to to outlets for today but after our stop at Walmart on Friday and the Florida Mall yesterday, we we're a bit shopped out and moved the Outlets to Tuesday.

So off we went to Hollywood Studios.
After a ride on TSM(our first), the Mermaid show, Muppets, the Great Movie Ride and a second ride on TSM(FP) it was 12:00 and time for lunch.

Having done plenty of research I knew I wanted to eat at Starring Rolls at least once, just for the cupcakes really ;-)
We were lucky and found a seat easily.

My mum chose the ham sandwich, salted potato chips, a bottle of water and the peanut butter chocolate cupcake

P1040074.jpg

I had the turkey sandwich, the salted chips, a diet coke and the butterfinger cupcake

P1040072.jpg

Well, the sandwich was big, but in my eyes not really big enough to share, also difficult to cut up to share really.
I ended up leaving some of the bread and just eating the turkey.
The chips got put away and we ate them at some point during a parade or something. I don't like these kettle/handcooked chips and would have never bought them if they weren't part of the meal.

Now the best part:

P1040077.jpg

The cupcakes were good but simply too big, we didn't finish them(but like I said didn't want to share one meal as it wouldn't have been enough food) and towards the end I just ate the frosting as I didn't care too much for the cake part.

We would return but I don't quite understand the big hype around Starring Rolls.

The total here was $35.36

After watching the Beauty and the Beast show, which we both love, we needed something cold to drink and got two slushies/frozen drinks.

P1040099.jpg

I had the cherry one and mum chose Pina colada, very sweet but refreshing.

They came to $7.86 or 2 snack credits

After the parade we stopped at the Writer's shop for a carrot cake cookie and I asked for some ice water. They weren't able to give me water, but gave me a cup of ice instead and I got water from a drink fountain outside. We've been getting lots of ice water, helping us save our snack credits-not that we really need to with 40 between us.
We saved the carrot cake cookie for breakfast the next day. It was okay but not amazing, but that may be due to the fact that we shoudl have eaten it fresh.

This is actually a pretty terrible picture and doesn't make the cookie look very appealing:

P1040152.jpg

$4.20, 1 snack credit

We took a break at the hotel since it was very hot today and returned to Epcot for dinner.
We arrived at the parking lot and the heavens opened :(

So instead of the World Showcase we had dinner at Sunshine Seasons, a place that always gets such great reviews.

I had the Spicy Cashew Chicken, a fountain drink and the Strawberry Shortcake

P1040130.jpg

Mum had sustainable fish with veggies(sorry, that's all I wrote down), a fountain drink and key lime pie.

P1040131.jpg

They were decent meals and I liked the strawberry shortcake. Mum thought the key lime pie was refreshing and they were both nice alternatives to the carrot or chocolate cake offered with most CS meals.

$36.25 was the total for our dinner.

After riding Living with the land and Nemo we returned later to ride Soarin as a walk on :)

At the end of day 5:

23/40 Dining credits remaining
24/40 snack credits remaining
total (not) spent: $420.09

Day 6

Like I mentioned, we started the day with half a carrot cake cookie each as well as some chocolate milk(we would get hot chocolate in our refillable mugs at night and then cool it in our fridge after it reached room temperature)
Just enough to keep us going for a while.

Today we did Epcot, where we went to see some charcters and rode Figment before taking a break with some popcorn.
We really enjoy this, a nice alternative to all the sweet treats available and good for sharing.

popcorn::

This will have to do as we munched it all up without taking a picture, but I'm sure you all know what popcorn looks like ;-)

$3.25

Afterwards we went to Club Cool, where I drank my bodyweight in the Watermelon drink from China and Mezzo Mix from Germany.

cost: $0, which to be honest still amazes me.

I do wish they sold full size bottles of the drinks available. I'd love to take a bottle of Smart Watermelon with me...or even if they just sold 20oz cups to be filled from the fountains.

We then made our way through the World Showcase and had another snack at Fife and Drum near the American Pavillion

We had another jalapeno cheese pretzel, a cup of ice water and 'The American Dream', a mix of strawberry and blue raspberry slushie layered with soft serve ice cream. So good!

P1040205.jpg

P1040206.jpg

Cost for this was $8.82, 2 snack credits

A couple of hours later we had lunch at Tangierine Cafe, where we had eaten before in 2006(but shared a meal since we were paying oop then. I remember having a chickenwrap, which looked different to the wraps they are selling now, back then it was cut in half and easier to share)

Mum had the lamb platter, a large diet coke and the baklava for dessert.

P1040214.jpg

I had the chicken platter, the large diet coke and also the baklava for dessert.

P1040215.jpg

P1040216.jpg

So good but quite a lot of food, I know lots of people share their meals here but we wanted different meat and also had lots of credits so didn't share ;-)
We really like eating here.

We saved our baklava for later and it was a nice little sweet treat.

Total was $38.62 but I think he only 'charged' small drinks and then gave me the large ones because I asked, what can I say, I'm thirsty ;-)

After a couple of hours at the Boardwalk it started raining, so we jumped on the first bus and ended up at Downtown Disney, where we took a bus to the Animal Kingdom Lodge to have dinner at The Mara again,

We each chose the same salad as last time, the Mara salad with chicken. I had a chocolate milk and a cinnamon scone and my mum had a bottled green tea and a parfait.

P1040222.jpg

The salad was just as good as last time, so filling.

The green tea wasn't very good, I think we never managed to find a bottled drink we liked apart from the Soda and water of course.
We saved the chocolate milk, scone and parfait for breakfast.

Our dinner tonight cost around $33, I forgot to write down the exact amount and the receipts always said $0.00

19/40 Dining credits remaining
21/40 snack credits remaining
total (not) spent: $503.78

So Day 6 out of 11 and we have passed the $500 mark. Do you reckon we will have a total of above or below $1000?

Loving the reviews. It is great to hear the story of the food :-). I reckon you may have a final total ot around $1200 what a bargain and all for free :-)

Great reviews. It's always good to see what it 'should' have cost.

A great review! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I am enjoying the details and the pics are wonderful! I like how you kept a total of each meal. I plan on eating at a few of the same places so the pics really helped!

:goodvibes

Thanks for your reviews. We'll be dining mostly cs on the next trip, so this is great to see what options we'll have. The salmon at CHH looks amazing!

I'm really enjoying your report. I had to laugh when you said you ate a scone you brought from the UK!:rotfl: I can picture a scone that travelled 15.5 hours

I received FD for the fall (QSDP)and upgraded to DDP. Now I am seriously regretting that:sad2: So much food! I couldn't have eaten all the food on the QSDP that you have shown so far.
And all of those snack credits (40) yikes. We Canadians only get one per day- and thats enough!
I planned on booking just three of my favourite TS restaurants when I thought I was paying OOP and the cost to upgrade to DDP from free QSDP was less than they would have cost so......

Also, I didn't know there was a bus to Orlando? Thought you had to book a Mears coach. I always learn something new.

Really enjoying a great report.

Oh the first guess, I'll reveal the total in my last post, it definitely made us gasp.

Great reviews. It's always good to see what it 'should' have cost.

Thank you :) I agree it was fun keeping track of how much it shoudl have cost, though like I said the figure is a bit unrealistic because we would have never eaten this much and probably would have brought more snack along to keep us going.

A great review! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Thank you for reading along, it was a bit tricky because you had to quickly remember the total shown at the till because once you hand over your KTTW card, the total shown on the till and check would be $0.00

Really enjoying a great report.

Haha, that's the cheapskate in me as I didn't want to pay OOP for breakfast. We brought a pack of 4 pre-package scones and some cereal bars. The scones keep for about 5 days after you buy them, so they did us well for breakfast those first two days.
We started out being healthy having fruit for breakfast and it quickly turned into eating rice krispie treats, carrot cake cookies and even chocolate cupcakes towards the end of our trip ;-)

There definitely was a lot of food, we only shared a couple of meals, other than that we always each had our own.
Most of the snacks ended up being brought home, many packs of gummy sweets, cheesy crackers, nutter butter and more.
They have stopped that second snack for the UK now as well from 2013.

I briefly considered upgrading because I thought we'd enjoy some TS meals but it would have been an extra $300 plus tips if I remember, so I decided not to, maybe on our next trip. Hopefully we'll bring a baby along then, so will be doing some character meals.

We didn't have a rental car so went to Walmart, Target, Premium Outlets and the Florida Mall by Lynx bus. It took a long time to get there though as you had to either get to TTC or DTD first.
I don't regret not getting the car though as this saved us a lot of money but it sure would have been nice to just jump in the car and go and not have to worry about time tables.

i'm really enjoying your reviews and pictures. you tried so many places and had such a large variety of food! we are going in october, and i am planning on adding wolfgang puck's restaurant to our list of places to go. the american quick service plan only has one snack, but i still think it's a good value for such a large amount of food.

Thank you for the lovely reviews, really enjoying reading them.

Thank you so much, unfortunately we ended up repeating a few meals towards the end of the week but we still feel that we had a good variety.

I will probably never pay for the dining plan but will happily take advantage of free dining if it happens to fit into our vacation plans.

Thank you for the lovely reviews, really enjoying reading them.

Thank you for reading, I very much enjoy writing them too :)

Day 7

Today was a shopping day at the Premium Outlets on International Drive. Inititally we had planned eating breakfast at Wolfgang Puck Express but we had our scone and parfait leftover from last night, so that along with some chocolate milk(for me) and coffee(for my mum) was good enough.

The cinnamon scone I got as part of my dinner at Mara last night was very nice but my mum didn't enjoy her parfait, she said it tasted too sweet and artificial.

Getting to the Outlets required 3 buses including a change at Seaworld but we arrived at the outlets around 10am. We shopped for 4 hours and took a quick snack break inbetween, I'm not a fan of having to actually pay with real money for my snacks after this week on the dining plan ;-)

We got back to DTD around 3pm and it was finally time for lunch. As much as we could have gone for WPE again we decided to go somewhere new and went to the Earl Of Sandwich, a restaurant I was able to try out during my trip to Disneyland Paris in November last year.

P1040226.jpg

I had the Jerk Chicken Sandwich and mum chose the Hawaiian BBQ sandwich
These sandwiches just don't photograph very well but I have to say they were tasty and we both enjoyed our meal here.
Soft drinks are refillable, which is always a bonus too.

For dessert I had the bread pudding, I wish this would keep fresh longer as I would have used some snack credits to bring this home. It tastes soooo good.
Mum had some sort of cupcake, sorry she doesn't remember what it was, but she enjoyed it too.

P1040227.jpg

P1040229.jpg

This meal was I think our cheapest at $21.24, definitely great value if paying OOP.

After a quick stop at Animal Kingdom to ride a couple of rides, we went to the Contemporary resort to escape the rain and to have dinner at Contempo Cafe.

I decided on the Mahi Sandwich, a blueberry muffin and a sprite zero.
Mum had the open roast beef sandwich, a cappuchino muffin and a vitamin water zero.

It was an ok meal, my sandwich was a little bit too salty, definitely not our favourite but we just enjoyed being able to eat at another different resort.
Contempo Cafe feels very hectic and chaotic with the monorail and chef mickey, so it's quite noisy.
As usual we saved our dessert for breakfast, which is why we didn't chose the tasty cupcakes available at Contempo Cafe.

P1040231.jpg

P1040232.jpg

The total for this meal was $33.49 bringing our total after day 7 to:

15/40 Dining credits remaining
21/40 snack credits remaining
total (not) spent: $558.51

Day 8

Day 8 started with our tasty muffins from last night's meal at Contempo Cafe and some chocolate milk(hot chocolate in our mugs cooled down overnight)

It was an early start today as I had planned on seeing Rapunzel, Tinkerbell and Ariel, which we managed to do in roughly 75 minutes, so I was happy :)

Due to our early start we were ready for lunch at 12 and chose Columbia Harbour House again.

I had the Lighthouse Sandwich and mum had the shrimp basket with broccoli, we each had a large diet coke and the apple crisp.
My sandwich normally comes with potato chips but I was able to swap it for broccoli, which was nice as the chips really don't taste very good.

Once I got to our table I realised that I was accidentally given the Anchors (Tuna) sandwich, so I quickly returned it and was given a new one without any fuss. I would have kept it but I just don't like tuna.

P1040250.jpg

P1040251.jpg

Columbia Harbour House was one of our favourites, maybe we should have tried some of the other CS restaurants at the Magic Kingdom but at least we ate different things during our two visits at the CHH.
Also we really like the setup and never had any trouble finding a seat in our favourite section by the windows upstairs.

Our total for this meal was $34.01

We rode Small World and Buzz before having our afternoon snack of 2 Dole Whip Floats at Aloha Isle

P1040256.jpg

We chose pineapple/vanilla soft serve in pineapple juice for 2 snack credits($9)

P1040257.jpg

We watched the Parade and then upon leaving the park mum mentioned she would quite like a coffee, so we stopped by the Main Street Bakery for an iced coffee and some free ice water. The cinnamon rolls looked tasty, but we didn't fancy anything sweet at the time so we decided to pass on them.
1 snack credit($4.25)

We took a laundry break at the hotel before returning to DTD for dinner at guess where....

oh yes, Wolfgang Puck Express(and not our last visit on this trip either)

This time mum went for the salmon, which she really enjoyes and I had the spicy chicken pizza, I regret not going for the spaghetti and meatballs like I had planned now as I never got around to having that.
Mum chose the Creme Brulee and I had the cheesecake. Both decent desserts and I couldn't pick a favourite.

P1040289.jpg

P1040290.jpg

Total for this meal was $50.81, bringing our total after day 8 to:

11/40 Dining credits remaining
18/40 snack credits remaining
total (not) spent: $656.58

After our meal we went to Epcot for Illuminations and another 'walk on' ride on Soarin afterwards.

I'm enjoying your reviews. I've been wondering about the open faced beef sandwich from Contempo Cafe for a long time. Thank you for the photo: it looks amazing!

Just caught up with your wonderful reviews :goodvibes
It's great to see such a huge variety of counter service meals. You've chosen some really great things
We love WPE and CHH in particular but we've never tried the Mara and would love to on our next visit
Can't wait to read more :thumbsup2

Enjoying all your reviews and photos :goodvibes
Thank you :)
Loving your reviews so far!

Thank you for reading, I'm so sad the dining report is coming to an end soon, only 3 days left

I'm enjoying your reviews. I've been wondering about the open faced beef sandwich from Contempo Cafe for a long time. Thank you for the photo: it looks amazing!

I think we weren't too impressed with the whole meal. The muffins were good but I should have tried a cupcake, the red velvet was on my 'to try' list

Just caught up with your wonderful reviews :goodvibes

Those 3 restaurants were definitely our favourites as you can tell since we at at WPE 4 times and CHH and Mara twice each ;-)

Day 9

We started the day with two breakfast pastries, which we bought at Cafe Rix at CSR the previous night. Our room was in Ranchos and we didn't fancy the walk just to buy a breakfast item. We're not lazy, I don't even own a car and walk everywhere but towards the end that long walk got tedious...

I got a banana bread and my mum had a cherry turnover

P1040299.jpg

My banana bread was wrapped in cling film(ceran wrap I think for you guys across the pond) so it stayed lovely and moist(ewww, hate that word) but my mum wasn't a fan of her turnover, think it was a bit stale by now.

They came to $8.50, 2 snack credits

We spent the morning at Typhoon Lagoon and contemplated eating there, but in the end we decided to eat at the hotel as it was still quite early when we left the water park and not quite lunchtime yet.

We had lunch at Coronado Springs and got food from Cafe Rix, which we ate in the room.

I chose a Southwest Chicken Wrap since I enjoyed the Southwest Chicken Salad we had a few nights earlier.
My mum had the Rix Club Sandwich.
She chose watermelon and I had the mixed fruit, 2 bottles of water, which we saved for later as we just refilled our mug with diet lemonade.

$30.95

P1040301.jpg

This wrap was the worst meal I had this entire holiday, even the food on the plane was better!!! It contained refried beans which I now know I don't like and there was hardly any chicken in it.
Yuck.
Mum enjoyed her sandwich.

That afternoon we took the bus to Target on i192 as we didn't feel like going to a park today and had some $$ left to spend on US snacks and cosmetics, I stocked up on Aussie hair care, pretzel chips, instant ice tea, peanutbutter sweets and goldfish crackers....oh my, you'd think we didn't have any food back in the U.K.

In the evening we decided to finally go and watch Fantasmic. When we watched it in 2006 we had to leave early in order to catch the last Lynx bus back to our hotel, so we probably missed quite a lot.
What an amazing show!

We grabbed food from Rosie's All American Cafe and took it into the theatre on a tray. We really craved chicken nuggets and fries, so that's what we had. Also some chocolate cake and a diet coke. Our first proper "junky" meal ;-)
It was of course fried deliciousness and I really liked the chocolate cake, first time I had it.(second time for mum who had it earlier in the holiday at CHH)
And honey mustard for the chicken nuggets. I DO LOVE honey mustard and resist buying a bottle every time I go to Florida, some things are better off only being enjoyed on holiday! I'm sure I'd start cooking chicken nuggets at home just to eat honey mustard :lmao:

P1040305.jpg

$31(and a few pence...I forgot to write it down immediately as I was carrying the tray)

At the end if day 9:
7/40 Dining credits remaining
17/40 snack credits remaining
total (not) spent: $727.03

Oh boy, better get spending on those snack credits!!

Day 10

When we were leaving Hollywood Studios the previous night, we took our time to avoid the crowds at the bus station and browsed the shops for a bit. We ended up in the shop that sells smoothies and sweets/bakery items.
I tried looking it up for a name but can't find it...

We chose these 2 strawberry muffins. There wasn't much choice left at night but I'm glad we chose them as they were really tasty and didn't taste too artificial.
Even OOP they wouldn't be too bad a choice considering the size and the fact that they only came to $5.95 for the two of them.

P1040311.jpg

We returned to HS to ride TSM again and around mid morning we fancied a little salty treat, so we shared a popcorn and also got a cup of ice water.

P1040320.jpg

$3.25

We then hopped over to Epcot where we toured the World Showcase a bit more, but really the reason we went was to have lunch at Tangierine Cafe again ;-)
As you might now by now, we do like to stick to our firm favourites as well as trying new things, so we both had the chicken platter, 2 large diet cokes and a baklava for dessert(the only choice available)

P1040323.jpg

I really do love this meal, it is a lot of food for one person though.
The dessert option is a bit boring, luckily I like baklava but I wouldn't bother getting it if I had to pay out of pocket for it, even the supermarkets here in the UK sell better baklava.

$37.13, 2 dining credits. By now I was starting to get sad seeing that we only had 5 dining credits remaining.

We picked up 2 snacks from Germany's Karamell Küche.
We did feel a little bit silly, considering we ARE Germans ourselves, but it was nice chatting to the staff in there.

We chose the Milk Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Square, mainly because it has such a cult status here on the Disboards and also a Caramel Pecan Pretzel stick.

P1040331.jpg

Those came in at a whopping $9.15(2 snack credits) and to be honest they weren't THAT good. The pretzel was stale and we only waited a couple of hours to eat it, the caramel square was only just ok.

Afterwards we headed to our third park for the day, Magic Kingdom. This would be the last park we'd visit on this trip and it was the right thing to do to finish with a visit to the Magic Kingdom.

We found ourselves near the pretzel kiosk in Frontierland, so after the parade we shared a Mickie Pretzel for 1 snack credit, $4.25.

P1040343.jpg

This was nice and the shape definitely adds to the enjoyment.

Later that night we went back to the Polynesian Resort for some dinner at Capt. Cooks

We both had the catch of the day with rice and vegetables, a fountain drink and tiki toffee.
We also used to snack credits for a chocolate macadamia cupcake and a Dole Whip.

The main course was bland, really nothing special, especially when I compare it to what I could have had with the same dining credit at WPE.

The dole whip was yummy as always and we're perfecting our technique to get as much of the soft serve as possible into the cup, definitely enough for the two of us to share.
We saved the cupcake and the Tiki Toffee went in our suitcases to enjoy back home. To be honest it tasted a bit odd...a bit burned, very crunchy, slighty 'off' tasting coconut. Something different to all the other snacks that you see everywhere else, but not to my taste.

P1040376.jpg

P1040377.jpg

P1040378.jpg

2 dining credits and 2 extra snack credits. $44.75

We looked around the Polynesian Resort a bit afterwards and I found Nutter Butter cookies for sale in one of the shops, while overpriced, we had snack credits to spend so I got 2 boxes of them, mum got one box for herself and also a small bok of Minnie's Bake Shop Cookies

I seem to not have taken a picture of these cookies, but here's a sneaky peak to all the food I brought home from the States and you can see the Nutter Butter on the left hand side:

P1040404.jpg

4 snack credits, $11.51

So after day 10, only one more day left, this is our total:

3/40 Dining credits remaining
6/40 snack credits remaining
total (not) spent: $843.02
