Ok, you just made me choke on my half-caf, non-fat, extra caramel, grande, no whip, mocha chip frappachino! :lmao: I'm kidding, it's just a BIG JOE from Burger King.:confused3

I'm sorry, but I love the Grimace. Only because I thought my mother the biggest pain the ****. Apparently, she is not! :rotfl:

I'm afraid mine is just juvenile...not as cerebral as yours. :guilty:

Basically, he walks past a piece of pie that had fallen on the floor and says, "Mmmmm....floorpie!" :rotfl2: Juvenile....but funny!

"I've had enough of your Vasser bashing, young lady!"

I love juvenile...all Simpsons quotes are funny!!

Floorpie...thanks to you we've been saying that to each other all week! :lmao:

Here's one from tonight: "You know how I feel about giving!!!"

Mount Splashmore... what a great episode. Back in the days when I was a nuclear engineering major, I couldn't wait to join the International Brotherhood of Jazz Dancers, Pastry Chefs and Nuclear Technicians.

:rotfl2: That episode remains one of my all time favorites. I love what Mr. Burns says to Marge at the end of the episode about his portrait..."Thank you for not making fun of my genetalia." :rotfl:

Ok Brenda I know you have been on the DIS lately because I saw your posts over on zweilhund's pre-trippie! Stop helping her plan her budget cruise and get to writing! :surfweb: I will threaten you with no trippie from me come September!! :rotfl:

So demanding! It's true...I had to check out Erica's pre-trippie because she asked me if she should start one. I had to show her some support - not that she needs it. And I'm not helping her budget...I'm encouraging her to drink so that she forgets about budgeting - two entirely different things. ;)

Seriously, my brain needed a rest. :upsidedow

She can run but she cannot hide....... :rotfl:

Be scared...very very scared! ;)

Love love love your trip report! I just found it today and I have to admit that I've read it all in one go. Ok... I had to take a few breaks here and there, but I'm all caught up!

All in all my impressions so far are, your mother and mine are quite clearly related. Do you have any long lost Canadian cousins? Because I think that would be us. Secondly.... I really REALLY want a drink now... something sweet and highly alcoholic.

I've also learned that one needs to pack duck repellent for the resort pools as well as watch out for alligators in the lakes. Not really... I like ducks. Alligators, not so much. I'm just hoping those can't climb stairs. I'm a prairie girl. We don't HAVE alligators and this scares me.

Lastly (for now), I wish I could quote but I've already started this reply and I don't want to start over... but there was a photo a few pages back of R'n'R and the lady with the visor... She is CLEARLY shrieking "My EYES! My EYES!! I'm BLIND!!" Look at her right hand... that's shock!

Marion, thank you so much for reading and for joining the fun! I'm glad you've enjoyed the trippie so far and if I could reach through the computer and give you a guavaberry colada I would. As for long-lost cousins, anything is possible in a family like mine where I barely know any relatives because no one is talking to anyone and hasn't been for 50 years.

I did go back and look at that picture...:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: You kill me!! I wonder if she lost a contact lens?

And btw - don't worry about the alligators too much, at least not at WDW. They do a pretty good job of keeping an eye on the dangerously hungry wildlife.

Thanks again for reading! :goodvibes

Thanks Jen!! This is very exciting news - I can't wait until the real details come out in July. :yay:

Tracy, as long as you were choking from laughter I'm a happy girl. ;)

I love the Grimace, too... how can you not? My mother single-handedly proved on this trip that parents really do become children, just not in a good way! :lmao: And something about the mother-daughter relationship just lends itself to pain-in-the-arsedness, doesn't it?

I need to get back over to your pre-trippie and check up on your mom, now that I think of it. I do hope she's feeling better. Thanks again for reading!

Brenda,
Sorry about your Cards:sad2: My Giants are doing just as bad...48 hours into their season, and they are probably already mathematically eliminated from the postseason.:sad2:

Jay and I are already wondering if the birds will be the first team in MLB history to go 0-162 after winning a championship. ;)

I'm not worried (yet). It will get better for both of our teams!

MORE MORE MORE...we want MORE! :cheer2: :cheer2:
I am getting antsy for the train tour...popcorn::

Oh and by the way, i totally called someone "grimace" the other day, and thought of you...that purple blob of Mcfun will never be the same! :rotfl:

I'm waiting for the day that a total stranger sees my mom and calls her Grimace...she'll be so confused. :lmao:

In Defense of Grimace or Grimm's Fairy Tale

It was a dark and stormy night...

Oh wait, that's plagiarism isn't it?

Uh, It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times...

Nope that won't work - plagiarism and a typo.

***Sigh***

Alright, I'll see what I can manage to come up with on my own.

...

...

...

I'm a rather goofy individual - it's subtle, I know, but the clues are definitely there. I don't know where this sense of humor came from or how it developed, but I suspect the Grimace had something to do with it. This is the woman, after all, who took me to see Airplane! when I was nine years old - I've never been the same since.

Why am I telling you this when you really don't care?

Here's why: What I am about to share was either a very funny dream, a drug induced hallucination, or a visitation from the beyond. Given the recent amused interest in the Grimace I thought you all might enjoy hearing about this...experience. Personally, I'm inclined to believe it was a dream, especially because I've been really good about not taking any percocet or darvocet for pain lately, but I'll let you make your own decision.

The scene, for lack of a better word, begins with a scan of a television audience clapping loudly in response to the mad flashing of a bright red, electric "Applause" sign.

I'm seated on stage next to, of all people, Joan Crawford (bearing a striking resemblance to Faye Dunaway).

She rolls her eyes at me and grimaces (there's just no other word for it). "So young lady, tell us why your mother deserves to win the 12th Annual Joan Crawford Award for Malevolent Motherhood."

I clear my throat nervously. "Uh, I don't think she should."

Joan lights a cigarette, takes a long drag, and then exhales smoke directly in my face. "Don't play dumb. Scuttlebutt among the founding members of MOM has your mother, the one you've dubbed Grimace, sulking during a Disney vacation, doing everything within her power to have a bad time, and dispensing back-handed compliments. Is this true?"

I squirm in my chair, distinctly uncomfortable under her scrutiny. I wave a hand in front of my face to disperse the smoke and to buy myself a little more time before answering. "Well, yeah, it's true but that doesn't make her a bad mother. And you have to admit, those stories are pretty funny."

Joan bares her teeth. "Cut the crap! I lead a very busy afterlife - it's not every day that I can be persuaded to depart the ethereal plane to engage in discourse with some mealy-mouthed mortal."

I am very confused at this point and just sort of shrug helplessly. "...?"

"Did your mother ever beat you?"

"No!"

"Did she ever lock you in a small, confined space, starve you, or threaten to drown you in a bathtub?"

"No, of course not!"

Joan mutters under her breath, "Maybe she should have..."

"Hey, I heard that! I may be half-blind but I have bionic hearing in order to compensate."

By now the woman is practically snarling at me. "OK, girrrrrrll; here's the 64-dollar question: Did your mother ever wake you in the middle of the night like this..."

And right before my eyes she morphed:
180px-Nowirehangers.jpg

Holy Crap!!!! :scared1:

And then I woke up, or stopped hallucinating, or... what do you call it when a spiritual visitor takes her leave?

It doesn't matter.

All I can think is that I must have been harboring some guilt over the way I've been poking fun at the Grimace in this trippie and my conscience was trying to remind me that my mom is a pretty good egg, all things considered.

Before I finish this interlude and start updating again in earnest, I wanted to find a picture of Grimace and me that was actually...happy. It wasn't easy; she is not a picture person. I had to look all over the place and this may seem a little sad, but the best picture I could find is from my wedding day (8 years ago).

So now you can see the Grimace all prettied up and making nice for me and for the photographer. This is a scan of an actual picture so it's a bit grainy but you get the general idea.

4.jpg

Now isn't she attractive when she smiles; doesn't she look pretty?

I thought so, too. :goodvibes

Well, I hope you enjoyed my dream (or whatever it was). It was pretty chuckalicious on this end, let me tell you. Now I'm off to ride the exercise bike. I will be back later this evening with Day 6, Part 1: Surfin' Safari.

Thanks for reading!!

Brenda--I've been avidly following your adventures, and I must say that at 11:55 pm --when I'm saying to myself, "Hey! Bedtime! You have a store to run in the morning!" And then I see that there is a NEW UPDATE.....Ok--one more glass of sauvingnon blanc and a new installment from oybolshoi and I will be an even happier camper. Totally enjoying your trip report!! (I will pay for this at 5:30 am)

Brenda,

Your mom not only looks beautiful in that shot but also genuinely happy on your very special day.

I wish my mom could have been there on my wedding day. She passed away two months after Rob and I decided to get married. She was very sick (you may relate as she was misdiagnosed with Colitis for 10 years but in fact had tumours growing all over her uterus and ovaries for those 10 years) and somehow managed to drive herself (in her jammies I might add! :lmao: Hey, maybe you could go to work in jammies after all! ) to the Disney Store and buy us a Mickey & Minnie cake topper. A month later, she was gone. I never did use that cake topper because we got married in Vegas and I didn't want to chance breaking the cake topper.

Now that I've managed to depress your entire TR audience....:rolleyes1

...I must say that you make a beautiful bride!!!!!!! :bride:

I'm all verklempt now. Talk amongst yourselves. I'll even give you a
topic: Brenda makes a lovely bride....and....discuss.

Monday, October 23rd - Come on a Safari With Me!

I was remiss when discussing the events of the previous evening. My only excuse is that I was so concerned about the impact of the Cheesesteak Incident I completely forgot to tell you what happened after dinner at the Plaza.

One of the reasons I wanted to spend EMH at the Magic Kingdom was to see Wishes. While my mom doesn't get all misty-eyed and mushy-melt over Disney, I thought she'd really enjoy the show. And Jay and I have only caught Wishes one time, so we were looking forward to seeing it again - no one does fireworks like Disney.

I'd say it was about 9PM when we finally finished up at the Plaza - just enough time to get a decent viewing spot. It was a warm evening, a little humid but overall very pleasant; great weather for watching sparkly airborne explosions timed to emotionally manipulative music.

Can you imagine then, my hysterically amused chagrin when Grimace announced that she wanted to go back to the villa and watch the World Series?

How were we amused? Oh, let us count the ways...

1) Grimace doesn't like baseball. She's not a fan and doesn't follow the Cardinals or any other team at all during Grapefruit League play, the regular season, or the playoffs. This is a woman who took a book to the last baseball game she attended - 20 years ago.

2) Grimace is afraid to travel back to the Beach Club by herself. "How will I know which MK bus stop is the right one to get me back to the Beach Club?" Read the sign. "How will I know at which stop I should exit the bus?" Listen to the bus driver when he announces the upcoming stop. "What if a stranger sits next to me on the bus?" We're not really having this conversation, are we?

3) Jason and I are the baseball fans of the group, but after rearranging our vacation schedules during the last two years to accommodate playoff games (see 2004: Four-game Sweep by RedSox Results in Disaster at Sea and a Whole Lot of Cheap Kahlua; and, 2005: Cardinal Cruisers Cursed as Beloved Team Loses in Postseason - There Will be No Guavaberry Solace.) we opted for a more laid back approach. We were not going to change anything we had planned just to watch one of the games. We would see of the World Series what we were meant to see and that was that. So, you can imagine how Jason busted a gut to hear my mom talk about wanting to watch the game.

4) Jon just waved cheerfully at her and said, "See you later."

Since it was obvious that Jon wasn't about to leave the MK, Jason took it upon himself to escort the wet blanket out of the park...once he stopped laughing. He speed-walked Grimace down Main Street, out the front gates, down to the bus stop holding pens, and then sprinted all the way back to where Jon and I were waiting, making it with about 5 minutes to spare. Now that's impressive!

The fireworks were incredible, but I was actually a little disappointed because the MK didn't run the standard version of Wishes. Instead they showed a watered-down version of Hallowishes. I wanted to see the original Wishes and then see Hallowishes when we attended MNSSHP later in the week. That's how it's supposed to be, or at least that's how it used to be. Oh well, it was still worth hanging around for. And as it turned out, we didn't miss anything by not watching the second game of the World Series; other than the Pine Tar Pitching Conspiracy. ;)

*************************************************

We find ourselves now on Monday morning - it's EMH at the Animal Kingdom and we're up early because Grimace wants to take a safari, but with animals this time. The last time she visited AK it was Monsoon season in Florida and she took the safari during the warmest time of day, which means she didn't see any wildlife at all.

We shared our hard-earned vacation knowledge with her. "You have to go early - right after they've fed the animals and while it's still cool outside."

And that's why we found ourselves waiting for an Animal Kingdom bus at 8:05 AM with about 20 other people. We probably didn't wait more than 5 minutes for the bus to arrive, but it had already stopped at the Swolphin and at the Yacht Club. It was going to be a tight fit.

Once the doors were opened, Grimace bolted in front of the two families that had been waiting for the bus when we first showed up. I was mortified...this was bad vacation form indeed!

"Hey!" I called out rather sharply. "Those people were here before us; don't butt in front of them. It's not nice."

You gotta give Grimace credit - she just laughed and told one woman with a stroller, "That's my daughter, but we've switched roles and now she acts like the mom."

The ride over to AK was crowded but uneventful. I was determined that we would have some family pictures taken at the parks to prove to the world what a great time we were all having together. Here's our first attempt:
1705.jpg

In all honesty I can say that I had forgotten about Grimace's photo-aversion issues at this point. When I did remember two days later how much she disliked having her picture taken I started pushing for group pictures just to annoy her. ;)

Jon, Jason, and I decided that we wanted to ride Expedition Everest before taking a safari - that way we would beat the crowds when the gates were opened to the public at 9AM. Grimace doesn't do coasters so she parked herself on a bench while we went through the normal ride queue - we only had about a ten minute wait.

Here's a shot of our early morning destiny as we moved ever closer to the first adrenaline rush of the day:
DSC01295.jpg

I could spend a lot of time talking about the incredible theming that Disney has in place for this ride, but we only rode it one time and I'm sure we missed a lot of details. A weird thing happened on the way to the loading area - we started talking with a guest in line ahead of us who was wearing Cardinals gear and it turns out that he is from our neck of the woods. And by that I mean he lives about 5 miles from Jay and me.

**Cue cliche** It really is a small world!

The ride itself is a blast! I can't wait to go back in May and ride this baby again. I had to take my glasses off, so I can't tell you much about the visual aspects of the ride but I can tell you that from the coaster's summit you can get a great blurry view of WDW. According to Jay it's really stunning when you have 20/20 vision.

Here we are plunging towards disaster:
1690.jpg

A few things I notice when looking at this: I appear to be wearing short-shorts even though I'm not. And while I'm having fun you will see that I am clinging to the safety bar with my patented "fun-is-fun-but-I'm-not-about-to-let-go" death grip. Although his arm is blocking part of his face, Jason has his best "Woo Hoo!" going on. And Jon looks like he is thinking to himself, "I'm getting too old for this crap."

I really like the guy sitting directly behind Jon - he appears to be having a great deal of frightening fun. The guy seated next to him looks like he's going to drop a load in his pants. I love these pictures!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Gotta stop for the night - need sleep. Thanks for reading - safari is next and there are a lot of pictures. :thumbsup2

I love the baseball story!! And it reminds me of the sad fact that when we take my parents this Oct. there is that possibility that the Red Sox will be in some kind of playoff and/or World Series action, which means my mother will be glued to the TV set. She's going to have to traverse the bus system on her own, though! Jason was a gem to take her to the bus and sprint back in time for Wishes!

I love EE too! What a fabulous ride. In fact, for our Jan. 2006 trip, I actually added a day to the beginning of our trip when the DVC/AP preview for EE was announced. There's nothing like adding a night's hotel and the change fees for airfare, an extra day on the rental car, and Disney priced food to experiece one attraction. That was when I knew my Disney obsession was completely out of control.:sad2:

Just wanted to tell you how much I've enjoyed your report. I started awhile ago when you did the dining report. You were nice enough to post on my TR, so I thought I'd post on yours! Great report!

Poor Grimmie! She really does look wonderful in your wedding picture. My mother in law pulled a Grimmie on me. She didn't smile once in any of my wedding pictures. Oh wait, she did smile in the pictures she took with just my husband. I tell ya, that woman has it out for me! And my father in law I think too...:scared:

Oh sure, now you're abusing me all over the DIS. Thanks Nancy.

Poor Jeff...I still like you. :goodvibes

Thanks so much for reading and for posting. I wish I'd had a glass of wine while I was writing last night (I was dry... ). You make me very happy by saying that an update from me makes you happy...it's always nice to hear that someone enjoys our trippie! Thanks again - we'll do our best not to disappoint in future installments. :goodvibes

Cass, thanks so much for the kind words about Grimace and me. Your story made me very sad and very thankful at the same time - I wish things would have turned out more happily for you and your mom.

I'm all verklempt now. Talk amongst yourselves. I'll even give you a topic: Brenda makes a lovely bride....and....discuss.

I know what you mean... I got a little verklempt there myself. And thanks for the compliment. :flower3:

Jay is an all-around super-nice guy...how he ended up married to me is one of life's greatest mysteries. ;)

Tell your mom to watch the games at the ESPN Club - it's a great place for playoff baseball as long as you get there early enough to get a seat.

That's the kind of spontaneous vacation planning I can really get behind!

The million dollar question: Was it worth it? ;)

Just wanted to tell you how much I've enjoyed your report. I started awhile ago when you did the dining report. You were nice enough to post on my TR, so I thought I'd post on yours! Great report!

In-laws...I think ours may be related. ;)

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who has posted, lurked, laughed, critiqued, or even run screaming in fear from this trippie. As always I appreciate your taking the time to give us a read! :goodvibes
