if i start using my 10 day ticket on say, the 17th of the month, is it good until the 30 or 31?

The 30th. The very first day you use it counts as day 1.

Easy method is to pick any date on a printed monthly calendar for your ticket start date. Look directly down two lines, then back one day. That will be the last day you can use your tickets.

For example, if you begin using your ticket on Wednesday, December 17th, 2014, then the last day your ticket will be valid and usable will be Tuesday, December 30th, 2014. After that date, the ticket will be expired. ​
