10 day stay at Grand Floridian…room cleaning?

I am a newbie and thank you in advance to answering this quick question. I am staying for 10 days at the Grand Floridian. Since I have two special needs kids, I am concerned about cleanings. I have read that they only replace towels and trash every other day. What do you do if you have a longer stay and need bedsheets, or a thorough cleaning? Can I ask for cleaning supplies and do it myself?

If you are staying in a regular hotel booking -- officially at this time, housekeeping is every-other day with just "light" cleaning. This is what the website says:

during your stay, your room will receive a light cleaning service every other day, which will include:
  • Removal of trash and used towels
  • Replenishment of towels and amenities throughout the room and bathroom
  • Wiping and cleaning of the vanity and counter surfaces
  • Vacuuming if needed
You are welcome to request additional towels, linens or supplies. If I were you I would do so on the first day and then periodically throughout your stay but not waiting until you've used them all up. They will provide linens but I don't think they'll change the beds for you. What cleaning supplies would you need? They may be able to provide something, or can you bring Lysol wipes or such?

If you are staying on DVC points, there is limited housekeeping anyway. I don't know if they do a full-service clean during the stay or not. But again you can request supplies.

Be aware that someone (housekeeping, security, hotel manager, etc.) may enter your room each day for a security check. Even if it is not a housekeeping day.

When you are paying Grand Floridian prices, you do not need to pack your own cleaning supplies.
Understood. However when traveling with special needs kids, you do what you have to do to assure their safety. If it's something that I anticipate needing for my child's well-being, I never rely on anyone else to provide it.

I guess I assumed from the OPs post that she was worried that her family staying in a hotel room for 10 days would make quite a mess and she wanted to not live in a dirty room, not that she would have some sort of emergency cleaning situation with her children. I apologize if I misunderstood the post.

Oh, quite possible -- funny how we can both read the same words differently :-)

Regarding Bedsheets…. If there are potential wetting issues bringing along the bed protector/s and/or Xtra tops sheets which are less bulky , can be most helpful. Don’t hesitate to ring Housekeeping if needed.
safe travels and enjoy.

Yes, I was worried about being in a dirty room for 10 days…

At Riv I was able to ask the front desk in person one day to change the sheets. When I called another day on my way out to ask for trash and towels on an off day guest services said according to my check in schedule I’d had my service and if I wanted trash taken to gather it myself- I hung up. I had a park to get to lol. Swung by the front desk on my way out and sure they could do trash and towels on my off day. No issues.

Basically OP, leave the phone out of it. The phone is run by central guests services not your hotel. Stop by the front desk for your housekeeping requests.

I hope that by the time our trip begins in June, that housekeeping will big back to normalcy.

Define normal. Many hotels have changed, or are changing, to an opt-in or out policy. It is very likely here to stay.
Only true luxury resorts have daily housekeeping now, and that ain't WDW, obviously. WDW can't hire on the number of housekeeping staff to return to daily housekeeping. I would be surprised if that changed in 6 months.

Wow, I can't believe a deluxe at disney for almost $800/night does not give you daily housekeeping. If they think it's dangerous for someone to clean your room, there should be some sort of credit giving for not providing this service. I can't imagine coming back to our hotel room and no maid service has been done. Sorry but at the prices people are paying, I think it's ridiculous!

Yes, would definitely agree Disney's prices are ridiculous but this is an industry impact not just a WDW impact. WDW doesn't think it's dangerous for someone to clean your room. They simply don't have the staff to get the job done.

Eh. Others in the industry are getting full housekeeping done. This is something Disney could get it done if they wanted to but they don’t want pay for it. And why should they honestly? Plenty of people are still staying.

I would be 0% surprised if down the road daily housekeeping becomes a paid upgrade feature… or even worse some 6am LL Housekeeping booking competition 😆😭

1000% agree. They could hire as many housekeepers as they need, IF they are willing to pay the “going rate”. Yes that is higher than pre-COVID. I own my own business, and we have had to pay more for positions now than we used to. It is what it is. WDW wants to charge full rates and give you much less. If their resorts continue to stay fully booked, their cost cutting is working for them. I intend to ask for full housekeeping each day and see what happens when we go to BC next week.

And if the front desk turns me down, I will speak directly to the housekeepers that I see in the halls and let them know that I would like my room serviced and that I have left them a cash tip in the room.

We don’t have a trip planned, and minimal housekeeping definitely is one of the reasons. I wonder if your plan would work… keep us posted?

I'm currently staying at the Hilton Garden Inn on Palm Pkwy just off property for $138/night and I get a full room cleaning every day. I've been at several even cheaper budget hotels recently that did it "every X days unless you ask". Thus, it's definitely possible and the covid excuses have worn thin. At this point it's just cost cutting. It's crazy that Disney deluxe resorts can't manage daily cleaning at the insane rates they're charging. But, I suppose if people keep paying and accepting it, there's not much incentive to offer anything different.
