Hi Everyone,
My family and I are planning a trip to WDW in May. I noticed on the web that we can upgrade our six day trip to ten and use the extra four days on a future trip. Does this make sense to anyone? I can't figure out how much it costs for these additional days and if it's worth it. Any help is appreciated.

Let me see if I can explain this:
We have 5 day hoppers bought for $810.00, we plan to upgrade to 10 day no exp hoppers when we get to Disney, it will cost us around $440.00 for upgrage, another 5 days we can use when we go back, hopefully in May, so its a savings

Hope this helps

Here is a link that compares ticket prices. Note: they are after tax (6.5%) prices. If you compare the price/day, the more days you buy the cheaper it will be. Generally, even purchasing the no-expire option will make buying the 10-day a better deal than a 6 day now and a 4 day later. But, you need to do the math. How many days will you do next year? Is it more than 4? If so, compare buying 2 6 days no-expire with buying a 10 day exp and a 4 day no exp if you think you wont go again any time soon. Will you be going again within a year and will you use at least 12 days in total? If so, an annual pass may be an even better deal, especially if you can utilize AP room discount for your next trip.

I calculated as many combinations as I could for our trip this Sept and next Aug. Buying an AP is the better deal for us just for the ticket prices alone. If we get good AP room rates next year then that will just be extra savings.

Prices from http://www.disneyworld.com:

10 day adult MYW with park hopper, no expiration $332 + tax
10 day adult MYW no park hopper, no expiration $308 +tax
10 day child MYW with park hopper, no expiration $293 + tax
10 day child MYW no park hopper, no expiration $267 +tax
6 day adult MYW with park hopper, expiry $222 + tax
6 day adult MYW no park hopper, expiry $196 +tax
6 day child MYW with park hopper, expiry $185 + tax
6 day child MYW no park hopper, expiry $157 +tax

Upgrading from a 6 day adult MYW with park hopper, expiry to a 10 day adult MYW with park hopper, no expiration would cost $332-$222=$110 per person plus tax (6% I believe), which is a pretty good price at $27.50/day.

You can upgrde the tix at Guest Services.

If you haven't already purchased the tickets, you may want to check out http://www.ticketmania.com, which is a reputable ticket discounter.

I'd figure it like this:
$332 divided by 10 days' usage = $33 per park day
$222 divided by 6 days' usage = $37 per park day

You know that tickets will increase in price before your next trip, so buying them now is a savings. That is, if you can afford to have the money tied up for a while and if you expect to be back within a reasonable amount of time.

We bought the 10 day no exp tickets with plus visits this year for our June trip. We knew that we would only use 2 days at the parks this trip. We will use 2 days in December & a couple more next year. We bought them at ticketmania thru mousesavers newsletter's link. With TM you don't pay tax...or it is included in the price shown, which is a little less than WDW's before tax price online. That saved our family of 4 $74.00. We know that we will be going back to WDW and this will make it cost us alot less each visit if you average it out.

Don't forget the plusses (or whatever they call them now) that could be 5 days by themselves. The way we looked at it, we got 15 days to use whenever we went for the next year or so.

I kicked this aroung alot when I booked our 4 day trip for September. I crunched the numbers and it really made good financial sense (especially with the free dining thrown in) to get the 10 day non-expiry pass. This way I'll have 6 days already pre-paid. All I need do for my next trip is wait for a good room only discount, get a SWA $115 airfare and voila...cheap WDW trip! :jumping1: What more can you ask for?

Generally a 10 day non-expiring pass is an excellent idea for a trip up to 7 days. For an 8 or 9 day vacation an expiring ticket that spans the entire vacation is probably better, a vacation of exactly 10 days should have an expiring ticket.

The savings you think you achieve may be diminished, possibly greatly, if on your second trip you don't have enough days remaining and you end up buying another pass to go with the leftover pass.

You will need some guesswork and a crystal ball but your number crunching should include this:

1. Figure out your ticket budget for this vacation and also for next vacation using all expiring tickets.

2. Figure out your ticket budget for this vacation and also for next vacation using ten day non-expiring tickets for this vacation.

Warning: Ph.D. in mathemetics required to read what follows.

Another way to crunch the numbers.

Figure out your ticket needs with expiring tickets for this vacation only.

Then figure out the added day cost for a longer non-expiring ticket (Example: four more days added to a 6 day pass cost about $3. each.) and the non-expiration costs ($107.)

For each leftover day count two points. For each leftover plus (for plus pack tickets) count one point. Spread out the non-expiration cost over the point total, for example you have two leftover plusses and the 4 leftover days for a total of ten points. So each point stands for $11.

Since the plus pack yields a minimum of two plusses (on a 1 day pass) the first two plusses absorb the $48. cost so the leftover plusses are valued at just the point count, or $11. each. Each leftover day had its own cost of $3. and two points of $11. each for a cost basis of $25. each for your next trip.

Let's say your next vacation is for seven days. You are better off buying all new 7 day expiring passes and hanging on to your old passes. If you bought 3 day passes instead, intending to use up the four old leftover days, you forego the 4'th new day at $15, the fifth new day at $9., the sixth and seventh new days at $3. each while consuming old days that cost you $25. each.

Do the point count before every 10 day non-expiring pass purchase. In this 7 day vacation you won't go wrong buying 10 day non-expiring passes again leaving three more unused days, and eventually go on a vacation with enough old passes that you don't need to buy new ones.

Thanks for all the insight. I think we're going to figure out our budget and then work on a way to do the 10 day no expire. Thanks you are all so great!!
