Why is this cruise so inexpensive? I have never looked into a reposition cruise, because they are typically 10 days or more.

In November of this year, I am paying for my family to cruise for the last time. The kids are all adults now, and my youngest graduates on Friday. He said he wanted a Disney cruise instead of the parks, like I took his siblings. So, they all know this is the last trip on my dime. If they want to go in the future, they can save up.

I, on the other hand, will be free to go whenever I want to. And to just pay for just myself..WOW. After paying for 4-5, is going to seem like chump change.

So, I was looking at the 2019 cruises and I priced out the Dover to NYC cruise. For just myself, so I am paying double, the price comes in at $2756.00 for an inside stateroom. (the small one).

WTH??? It's a 10 day cruise, with multiple port stops (England, Ireland and a few Canada stops before we get to NYC).

This is a no brainer. I'm going!

Because it’s repositioning and in the off season. The transatlantic and Panama Canal cruises are some of the best deals Disney has to offer. This particular transatlantic may be cheaper too bc it’s thd Nothern route and the Southern route is more popular because it can be warmer/calmer seas.

Some folks aren’t into having to book a one way ticket to or from Europe. The Panama Canal cruises have an advantage of being in North American ports both ways, but are long and in the middle of the school year. TA cruises are long too. We are really looking forward to our 13 night TA in 2019!

We are currently booked on the 2018 WBTC. The price for four adults (DH, 2 DDs and me) was less than $7000 in a deluxe family stateroom for 11 nights. One way airfare to England was a shocker. On almost every airline it was over $1000 per person. We live in the Philadelphia area but can also get to airports in North Jersey, New York and Baltimore so we had a lot of airlines and flights to chose from. We ended up using frequent flyer miles that my DH had accumulated. Hotels in London were pricey too and it was difficult to find a hotel that could accommodate four adults in one room. We ended up at the Hilton Paddington Station again using hotel reward points. We will hire a private car service to get to the Dover port which looks like will run about $200.

I am paying almost as much for this 10 night WBTA for 2 people as I did for 4 of us in 2014 in the same category room for a 14 night cruise! Still a good deal, but not AS good. But the WBTA is my favorite cruise of all times. This will be my first one going out of England.

Historically, repo cruises have always been less expensive than regular cruises. It’s a question of supply and demand. On other cruise lines, even today, you can often sail for less that 100 $/day. The industry tried to change the trend by adding stops to the itineraries but they are still unattractive cruises for a lot of people because of the many sea days, complicated plane tickets, sailing dates, duration, fear of bad weather, choppy waters or being in the middle of the Atlantic, etc.

But for people who love to cruise and have a flexible schedule, they are some of the best cruises. We loved our WBTA. We got to see the Azores, the Atlantic was dead calm and the arrival in NYC on the last morning is quite a sight.

On the other end of the spectrum, my parents had their worst cruise out of 90+ cruises on a WBTA that sailed near Iceland. They never had such bad weather and the public spaces were empty for many days since all the guests were sick in their staterooms. If they hit a storm, there is a limited amount of rerouting they can do, unlike a cruise in the Caribbean.

You just play the system. Book a round trip but don’t use the one coming back.if you don’t want to play the system contact dcl they have good prices on one way flights to Europe

You don’t even have to do that. If you fly with the right airline you can get a cheap flight we paid $305CAD/ person to London for the WBTA this year. I know other people who are going paid $250 from NYC and I think I saw someone from the west coast pay under $300 one way. Lots of discount airlines are flying to and from North America, like Norwegian and Iceland Air. The key is to check for flights into Gatwick as well as Heathrow.

What is the weather usually like on this cruise, and are the seas usually rough?

We did a WBTA a couple of years ago as the second leg of a B2B Med./WBTA. The price helped us decide that this was almost what the cost of a one-way airfare might be from Europe...kinda whacky rationale, but we are Mouse people, kept the same stateroom for both so it was easy to decide. Also, there are special, one-of-a-kind events/challenges/games that are offered on TA cruises that are great fun. There are fewer kids and passengers overall, so a bit more breathing room on the Magic. Wish we were doing another one this year.

On our WBTA we had rain/somewhat stormy weather only twice. The ship rocked a bit, but it doesn't bother us. However, I did see a number of people with patches behind their ears, so you might be wise to bring medication of some kind for sea sickness, just in case. I believe the ship's medical clinic might also have some meds to help.

It is difficult to say, I think the first time it is doing this route at this time of year is this September. I am hoping for warm weather, but planning for cooler weather.
