10 Day Christmas Cruise- Worth it?

Hi,
I keep going back and forth on the 10 day Christmas Cruise.
I think it would be really neat to go on.
I was hoping to book one cat 5 and cat 11

here is the cost via Disneycruise.com
10,765.40 for 2 adults 2 child cat 5
$7,365.40 for 2 adults 2 child ( 1 13 yr old) cat 11.

My parents will be with us.



or if we went Dec 11
$4,801.40 for 2 adults 2 children cat 5
3,401.40 for 2 adults 1 13 yr old and a 6 yr old cat 11


If we do the Dec 11th Cruise.. We will be going to AKL for 10 days My daughter and my parents wil be going up to my sisters house in Inverness. SO we will only have to have one room.


Dec 28th- Jan 4
Cat 5 $8,111.08
Cat 11 $5931.08

Well since we booked it we think it is worth it, but we can only speak for ourselves.

What we like best about it is 5 ports (Key West, St. Martin, St. Thomas, St. Lucia, and Antiqua). 3 full sea days. A beautiful day at Castaway Cay.

We were thinking about the Christmas 10 day as well but considering the cost, yikes! It would be cheaper or about the same price to take back to back 7 day cruises east and western at a different time wouldn't it? You'd get 14 days, 6 sea days, and a bunch more places to visit.

We're on the 10 day cruise too. I'm thinking that Disney will make it pretty special. We are paying a premium for sailing at Christmas, plain and simple. In our case, we can't take our daughter out of school for an earlier sailing (she will miss 3 days to do this one anyway). If that were an option for us, I'd certainly consider two back to back sailings for about the same $$ as the 10 day. You can't go wrong either way, it's a cruise and it's Disney! Diana

Dh and I just talked about it.
We decided as much as we would like to - that we are going to pass on this Christmas, go on our normal planned Dec 11-18th - then in 2005 go on that Christmas cruise..

The numbers you are quoting are a little bit skewed too. The normal cruise that happens over Christmas is a LOT more than one that sails on the 11th. I don't have the numbers in front of me or I would provide them.


You can never go by quoting any other time of the year.

My dh had to put the #'s in perspective for me when I freaked about the cost. As Mark said, you can't compare the 2 cruises to the Xmas cruise. You also can't compare the Xmas cruise to 2 back-to-back cruises at different times. The 'value' of this cruise would have to be a family's desire to cruise over the Christmas holiday as opposed to a cheaper season.

Here's another look at your #'s:

Per Day:

Xmas 10 day: (as you quoted)
$1,813.08/day/entire group or $226.64/day/person

Dec. 11: (as you quoted)
$1,171.83/day/entire group or $146.48/day/person

Dec. 28: (as you quoted)
$2,006.02/day/entire group or $250.75/day/person

(If I've messed up the calculations, please feel free to jump in and help me correct them...the point is, to put them in a 'per day' figure helped soften the blow for me)

Clearly the Dec. 28 is not a bargain, but it's over the New Year's Eve/New Year's holiday. Dec. 11 is the cheapest, but it is routinely cheaper than the holiday cruises such as Christmas. It would all depend on your desire to cruise over Christmas. The reason we decided to do it is because we think it would be such an awesome experience. We have NEVER been away from home over Christmas and wanted to experience it in a very special way.
