10/4/08-Buccaneers Take the West! Cruiser List in Post #1

Glad to hear you got your power back so quickly. The pics from the storm look awful. We had one like that (freezing rain) here about 5 years ago, and the damage was comparable to hurricane damage. Hopefully you will thaw soon! It was 80 here today. I broke down last night and turned my AC back on, as the house was 82 when I went to bed last night. What stinks is by Sun, the high will be mid-40s, and I will be running the heat again... and we'll all be sick for Christmas.

Jan... glad you had such a wonderful trip. I have thought about going to the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, VA several times. Problem is that we like to go to do Busch Gardens, and wouldn't get our monies worth out of the hotel. Maybe one day!

Anyone planning to get on a diet after New Year's besides me? I need to lose about 80 pounds, hopefully all before the cruise. :sad2:

I don't know if I would call it a diet but I have to get back to eating healthy. Losing weight would be a great side effect. I need to lose at least 20 lbs so my formal will fit but could safely lose upto 50 lbs. Lois

Lois: Glad to hear you are ok in Missouri. We've had the moisture in the form of rain in mid-Michigan.

As Lois says she needs to do, I need to eat healthier and the result should be some weight loss. Since I'm a lifer WW member, I will probably get back to the meetings in January.

For me eating healthy includes increasing my H2O and staying away from sodas. As well as, eating as many whole foods including fruits and veggies and staying away from the sweets. Now that is one of the hardest things for me to do. My start date is 1/1/08

Anyone up for a little on line support? Lois

Hey folks. I am toying with idea of this cruise. I have to see how the end of the year goes. I haven't read the whole thread but want to wish you all well. My family went on our first DCL a 3 night back in February. (Ironically about the same time we were on our cruise, is that a sign?) Anyway, want to wish you all a great Christmas. Have fun planning your cruise!

I hear you on the weight loss thing. I have struggled with weight issues since I was in thrid grade. I was at 250 this summer and I am down to 219. My goal is 190 (BMI says I should be 157, I will get to 190 and see where I am from there!)

I have tried just about every diet out there (Weight Watchers, Body for Life, Atkins, South Beach, Slim Fast). What I have sucess with recently is using a program called Calorie King (www.calorieking.com) that you download to your PDA or computer. It costs like $30. It gives you a target amount of calories based on current weight, age, gender, height, and activity level. You then journal and keep track of the calories. You can track your water intake if you need help with that. It will also track exercise which adds back to your daily amount of calories that you can eat. (I don't track that I want all the help I can get!) I also use a gym fairly regular.

All that to say, best wishes to those wrestling with this. I know it is hard. Don't drink your calories, find a buddy online or off to share sucess and struggle with, get some exercise, even just walking 20-30 mins a day will do wonders. You can do it!

Now that I finished my commercial (I didn't mean for it to go that long! :flower3: ) Those who have cruise before, has anyone done a trip report?

I just scanned the thread, it looks like you have a great group going! To Mom2Four, Karbritt and Carolina Girl, Hello from a fellow downeaster and pirate fan. I grew up in Greenville and I can prove it in two words, "Parker's Bar-b-Que" My wife grew up in Cheyboygan Michigan so I get alot of the Michagan jokes too!

Some folks asked about Stingrays, there is a relatively new excursion on Castway Cay that does stingrays and I highly recommend it. I talked about in my trip report from my 3 day earlier this year. (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1293772&page=9 page 9 post #126 if you want more info)

I see that there are a few folks who have never sailed Disney before. I would recommend you read as many trip reports as you can. It gives you a good feel for what the cruise is like from several different points of view. I read a TON of the trip reports when we were planning our first one. It helps pass the time till the cruise gets here!

Ashman!!!!!

I loved reading your report - you started it last year, didn't you? Hope you join us next year.

My in-laws live in Cheboygan, family name is Ziegler. MIL's home is on Black Lake about 20 minutes from Cheboygan.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Ooohhh..Parker's BBQ! Love those breadsticks. When I was a teenager, I loved when my parents would drive us to Greenville and we'd eat at Parker's. There were so many cute boys working there, lol.

Ashman...I agree with Jan...loved reading your report. I didn't do a report of our last cruise. When we returned, I had to jump back into teaching, and from that point on, progress reports and lesson plans took over my life. I do LOVE me some Disney cruisin' though. I am sooooo psyched that we're going back.

Well, it's time for some shut eye. Catch up with you guys later!

Lori P. :)

My FIL worked for P&G and got transferred to NC when my wife was in High School (we met then) His last name is McRae. I know Black Lake and Mullet Lake.

Those Bread Sticks ARE awesome! They still only hire guys for the wait staff, I'm not in a god position to comment on the cuteness, not that there is anything wrong with that! :lmao:. Here is a shot of home for ya!

Parkers.jpg

Alas no breadsticks in that pic! But they serve green beans now! I was in Greenville in Sept for the Southern Miss/ ECU game and took a shot for some folks who wanted to know what Eastern Style looked like!

OMG! That pic made my mouth start watering, and its only 7:30 AM!! Guess we'll be going out for BBQ tonight! My DH family is from Ayden and Winterville, and we have Parkers catered for all family reunions, birthdays, etc... His family name is Worthington.

If they are Worthington, and in that area... they are related! My grandpa-in-law was fire chief in Winterville for many years.

Ashman:

Scott Ziegler is no relation that I am aware of.

My Cheboygan inlaws are: Sue and Jim and Rhonda (Sanwald) Ziegler. Rhonda worked at P&G for a while. Sue and Jim live behind the hospital; Rhonda lives off US23 heading to Mackinaw City. All three of them work at the UAW Center on Black Lake.

My in laws know your in laws! This where some start hummming and the rest sing "It's a small world after all!"

Ashman!

You took the song right off my keyboard!

I'll be talking to my DSIL tomorrow and let her know that I know (indirectly) your inlaws.

My DH Dave is the only sibling who didn't move to Cheboygan. They spent summers (and some winter weekends) on Black Lake. The family moved to Black Lake permanently when the 2nd kid graduated from a Detroit area high school. Youngest graduated from Cheboygan HS.

Jan

Thanks for the pic, Ashman! When I moved to TN, I went to a party and they were serving BBQ. I was excited until I saw the BBQ. NOTHING like eastern NC. After living here for 17 years, I can say that I have finally acquired a taste for BBQ/red sauce and slaw, but nothing here can take the place of a good NC BBQ sandwich with slaw.

I got my mom's Christmas money, so I guess we can go get our passports. Yeah!!!! My last day of school is next Wed., so hopefully we can go order them while we're out.

ANyone having an exciting weekend? I'm taking my boys to parents night out, so I'm going to go try to find a good deal on a desktop computer for my boys for Christmas. My sons have a soccer game tomorrow late afternoon, but other than that, it's the same old cleaning the house....bleh!

Have a good one!

Lori P. :)

Our precious goddaughter, Alyssa, is spending two sleepovers at our house this weekend. She is almost 11 (12/24), has Down Syndrome and she's one of my 7GR8KIDS!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Both Janet and I work for the Missouri Department of Mental Health doing service Coordination for folks with developmental disabilities. They are all special and if the rest of us could see the world through their eyes what a wonderful world it would be.

Enjoy her while she is with you. Our grandkids are coming over tonight as well. But they come over most every weekend. They are the love and light of my life. Lois

For all of you in the snow warning areas of the country, stay safe, warm and dry.

Lois: I agree with you. Also, Alyssa's mom and I continually comment that we have had our eyes opened since Lyssa was born, and we've met so many wonderful people through her. By the way, Alyssa has been on two Wonder cruises with me. The best things she likes on the "Big Boat" are the princesses, chocolate chip cookies, the music and the Mickey pool.

Our plans are changing as we're in a winter snow warning. We're heading back to the Detroit area early this afternoon and staying at a hotel with Lyssa. Tomorrow is her birthday party and I don't want her to miss it!

Our weekends are usually filled with our grandkids, too.

Jan

Happy Saturday all! It's been a while since I stopped in here. I hope the weather is being kind to everyone. We are getting ready for the nor-easter we are expecting tonight into tomorrow. I just have to wait to see if it actually hits.
Keep warm everyone and remeber it is 292 days until sunshine :cool1:
