10/4/08-Buccaneers Take the West! Cruiser List in Post #1

Thanks Gail.

What makes it worse is that the flights to/from LAX are overnight. They just don't make seats for comfort. A friend of mine asked how I managed to sleep. I guess when you're tired enough you can sleep anywhere. However we do get in-seat entertainment so the kids don't want to visit the bathroom as often :rotfl: .

We did 2 12 hour flights last year on our way to Athens. Auckland to Singapore, then 5 hours later Singapore to Athens. They had in-seat entertainment and my DS (then 6) refused to sleep. He played games the whole way. Of course when he started losing he'd get really mad. I still couldn't convince him to sleep. Even when we were in the airport he didn't sleep. He found a TV to watch. Out of the 24 hours he had 2 hours sleep :scared1: .

My hat is off to you - I can not imagine. Hopefully it will be a peaceful flight for everyone.

The boys got home last night - Drew (youngest) first and then about 15 minutes after that, Ben (oldest) called so with the typical "where are you?" from mom he says he is sitting on the side of the road. Well, he sounds fine so what is he doing sitting on the side of the road? Gosh darn deer! It wasn't a very large one but it got him right between the headlights. So into my car I go to bring him home - about a two hour ordeal. It is an older vehicle so I don't know if they insurance will pay to have it fixed or not. I imagine there was some radiator damage and then there is the hood and grill.

I am whipped as it was past my bedtime when I got home. David has his final test this morning and then the big day is tomorrow. I will keep everyone posted.

Surgery is at 7:45 tomorrow morning. I will post when I get home tomorrow night. All prayers and pixie dust are welcome.

Gail you have our thoughts and prayers. I am glad he got the go ahead to have the surgery. I am sure you are or well be stressed. We will wait for your report. Lois

Gail, I hope all goes well with the surgery. Our prayers are with you.

SUCCESS!!!!! Good thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated. Sorry I didn't post when I got home yesterday but I was beat. We had to be at the hopsital at 5:30 yesterday morning, they finally started a little after 9:00 and he was moved to recovery at 1:00. The surgeon said that everything went well and his nerves were all looked good. They finally moved him to a room about 5:00 - groggy and still coming out but I fed him a bit of dinner and sat with him. Drove home is a slushy, rainy, snowy mess and was asleep before I hit the pillow. Our power went out last night so I worried about the boys getting up but no need, they were fine. But, I can't go back to bed now.

Have a good day everyone - I will update again tonight or tomorrow. Thanks again for all of your support.

He was up and walking yesterday - straighter and better than anything I have seen him do is several months. Anesthetic still in his system along with the pain meds so he had a pretty nauseous afternoon but once he gets all through with that and they can regulate his pain, we should be good to go. Again, thanks to all of you for the good thoughts and prayers.

Gail, I am so glad that the surgery went so smoothly. I'm sure both you and your DH are glad that's behind you.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm GLAD it's Friday. I have been so tired this week. I don't know what's happening to me lately, but I seem to be going through a slump, both physically and mentally. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I honestly think that part of the problem is knowing I'm 6 months from being 40. No offense to anyone who's over 40, b/c I think I'll be fine at 41, but lately the thought of getting "old" is just depressing to me. Today, one of the boys I taught last year, told me that he could see gray in my hair, and although he said, "I'm just kidding, Mrs. Powell.", it bothered me all day. I even went and got my hair touched up after school.

Sorry...didn't mean to dump that on the table. I just haven't had an adult to talk to today.

I'm going to put on my happy face and take my kids to a parent's night out gym, then go buy myself some new shoes. (I know...I'm a wild woman, lol)

Hope everyone has a restful weekend!
Lori P. :)

Those milestones can be such a big deal. I was just looking at the increasing number of grays in my hair. I refuse to have it colored. Hope you feel rested and more your young self soon. Life is too short to worry about ones age. But I understyand I have been there more than once in my life.

Thank God everything is well. We will continue to keep everyone in prayer until the recovery is complete. Let us know how things continue to progress. Lois

Lois, thanks for your kind words...and I really don't mean to sound whiny. Turning 30 never bothered me one bit, and I never thought I'd be one to be hit with this, but hopefully, if I keep my chin up and be thankful for God's blessings, this feeling will pass.

Well, I need to put the boys to bed and then I'm going to fall asleep in the recliner reading a new book.

Goodnight all,
Lori P. :)

I didn't hear any whining. I heard a young woman who was trying to deal with the loss of youth and still hasn't found her center. We all go through it at some point. I did at 30 and then again at 50. I got through it and you most likely well as well. Many woman say that the best years of their lives were the later one.

I just decided I wasn't going to grow up. Yes, I will grow old but I am never going to grow up. Lois

Lori - from Michigan. I can relate but at 53 I have decided that it is just a number and does not really matter. So chin up, buy two pairs of new shoes if you have to, and an outfit too, have a date with your DH and always remember - you are better than two twenty year olds!

DH is still in the hospital, there had been some discussion of his coming home yesterday but they need to get his hemoglobin under control as well as his blood pressure as passing out at home is NOT an option. Pain level is now under control and things are looking up.

Have a good Saturday everyone!

Good morning! A miracle has occurred...my whole family is ready for church 20 minutes before it's time to go:eek: That has NEVER happened before.

I got a bit of good news. My mom (who is also going with us on the cruise) is buying our passports for Christmas!! What a BIG relief that is. I don't know if she will start reading the boards (this thread) or not, but just in case she does.... THANK YOU MOM!!!

Well, I'm going to run, have a great Sunday!

So the question comes to mind, how did the rest of the day go? Lois

Lois, How sweet of you to ask, :)

Sunday went pretty good. I ended up in Target last night just looking around, and by the time I got home, my DH had tucked everyone into bed. What a nice thing that was.

Well, I gotta run. My DS8 and DS10 have basketball practice at 6 and 7.

Where is everyone??? Who has booked for 2009? I don't really know what I was expecting but it was sort of anticlimactic (is that a word and did I spell it correctly?). My favorite jewelry store of all times is in St. Maarten but it would be nice so see the new places as well. But, I don't imagine we will be cruising in '09 as there are going to be two weddings and that is pretty special too.

David report - he is home. Not pushing himself at all (which I find rather frustrating) but we shall see how it all goes. It will take time.

I have been chasing my tail. Things have been so busy and life is just moving so fast. I am so glad David is home. You all will continue to be in my prayers until such time as he is healed. This I am sure will take time but I do know that he will need to move inorder to get stronger. I hope he will follow physician orders and exercise once given permission.

As far as cruising next year I really want to but with what we are doing this year I just don't see that happening. I really want to bring the grandkids but just can't bring myself to pay the summer time prices. And their mother just won't let us pull them out of school now that they are in high & middle school. So I guess we will have to wait.

We have altered next years plans. We had some friends who were going to join us on the 3rd cruise but they decided that it wasn't in the plans for them. We had been trying to decided if we wanted to do the B2B2B or if we wanted to do a week at WDW before the cruises. So that is what we are doing: 9/20 we fly to WDW and then we go back to the airport and stay at the Hyatt on 9/26. 9/27 we take the early bus to the port and the rest of the fun begins. This will truely be the vacation of a lifetime. I am so excited!!!! Lois

Happy Dance!! I just got our school calendar for next year, and our break is when I prayed it would be!! Woo hoo! Earnest planning can now begin! 301 days!!!

Ginger:cool1:

Lois - catch that tail and you can stop running :rotfl:! I pulled my kids until they got to college and then they stopped going with us as we always seem to cruise in the fall.

Ginger - Airline tickets are done. I have booked OKW from 9/27 - 10/04 and already have the WDW tickets so that is taken care of as well. I did go out to NativeWay's website to see about Stingray City in Grand Cayman but not much of anything else. We did a Western on the Magic back in 2005 but didn't get to Cozumel due to the hurricane damage so I am looking forward to seeing that.

Take care everyone. There is so much going on with the holidays - don't over do and get sick or anything.
