Way to go, Asiah!

Karen, one thing I can think of that we cajuns say is "I'll pass for you..." This is what we say when we are picking somebody up, like if you and I were going to the movies (we say "going to the show"), I would call you and say, "I'll pass for you at 6:30 to go to the show."

Talking of sayings... I tend to type what I think (yeah I know thats a frightening thought in itself!:rotfl2: ),... but I often change my text thinking "they wont know what I mean by...." etc, and other times words such as "footie" I automatically think of as a "real" word and forget to put the proper word (football) in its place instead. Same with the word "buttie"... that to us is a sandwich.... used in every day language - cant remember the last time I said the word "sandwich" - no-one round here says it, they all use "buttie".

Neil has even recently bought a t shirt with the word "Bostin" across the front. Thats a local word meaning "great, brilliant."

Another would be "tara-a-bit" - another local word - the literal translation is "goodbye for a bit" - in other words "see you later".

So, what words if any do you use that we dont?

I dont mean stuff like faucet - we call it a tap etc, I mean slang words that you use in everyday life.

Just for fun - I'd like to learn some "Americanisms"

Here I always thought a "Buttie" was a cute bum! :rotfl2:
OK, this one is a popular one used only in Wisconsin :"Bubbler" used for a drinking fountain.

And then all over the U.S. we all describe Soda water as:
"Soda", "Soda Pop", or "Pop". I'm not sure if it's the UK but I thought I heard somewhere that "soda" is referred to as "Coke". :confused3

:goodvibes

this probably wont help you nancy but heres the refrig magnet we got in cozumel.

That gives a whole new meaning to my saturdsay morning bacon buttie:rotfl2:

We call it fizzy pop, or just by the name eg coke, lemonade etc, never soda.
We call squash (cordial) pop.

Soda is what is used as a mixer like tonic. We do have pop though - used to describes any fizzy drink - you'll go pop if you drink too much!

Dad is doing better - he is in Intensive Care at the moment. He takes a lot of drugs for different things...but he takes digoxin for a heart condition. He has ended up with digoxin poisoning and had 4 x the recommended dose in his blood and he was only taking the recommended level.

So he has had to have kidney dialysis to get rid of the digoxin, they have had to fit a temporary pacemaker to keep his heart going and to top it off a cathatar so they can monitor his urine levels. But he's grumbling apparantly so that's a good sign. I shall see him tomorrow.

Good afternoon/evening all....

I've been mostly lurking lately....work's just keeping me too busy.

Andy and Heather ....

I had an interesting time getting ready for work this morning - our electricity went out due to some thunderstorms. I was getting dressed - Pete was in the shower...and the lights went off. They didn't come on before we left, so hopefully they're back on now.

Not too much else going on here....see you later!

Heather - I'm sorry to hear he's in intensive care, at least he'll get close monitoring there rather than on some understaffed ward. I'll keep him in my prayers til he's better.

Good to hear he's moaning - good sign:thumbsup2
Send him all our best wishes .... "Hi Dad, a bunch of total strangers to you, that I cruise with send you their get well wishes":goodvibes :grouphug:

Is your Mom coping ok too? and you?
