HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL THE BIRTHDAY PEOPLE

Just popping in really quick ...

did you all see the article that American Airlines is going to start charging passengers $15 for their first checked bag and then $25 for each checked bag after that. :headache:

Policy apparently goes into effect June 1st.

That's crap - raise ticket prices if you have to because of fuel costs but don't penalize people for traveling. I don't know anyone who can go on a vacation without checking at least one bag.

I'm calling AA tomorrow and if there's any way for me to cancel the flight I have booked for October I'm doing it.

At this rate they're going to make the bathroom facilities on their planes pay toilets. :rotfl2:

Popping out now to get some work done. :upsidedow

Ouch! That's nuts! I haven't read that one yet....

I can sort of see charging for a second bag (we're flying United in Dec.) but charging for the first bag???   I agree....

Do they think people aren't going to know and use that in determining who they fly with???

wow, thanks for all the hellos!!
You guys seem like a bunch of really good people and I look forward to meeting all of you :) I guess I will have to check daily on this site cause I just had to go back 4 pages just to see my original note!..lol

So I had supper with Cass last night aka the Almighty Disney Knowledge Base! lol and I am sooooo excited for this trip.... what is it now 500 more sleeps??..LOL I think I might explode before we get to leave..lol

Who knows after this trip we might be hooked and be on many more with all of you.. now that the kids are moslty grown it gets cheaper and trips become more likley again..lol :cool1:

I forgot to say Hi yesterday....welcome!

I'm Jen, and I'll be cruising with DH Pete, and DS Thomas who will be 6 1/2, and a bunch of family that haven't stopped by the boards yet.

Glad you've found us...we're all pretty excited about this trip! I'm already doing lots of planning for the trip, and it's a long ways away!

I'll cancel my flights tonight once I get home as long as they're refundable. If not, then they are going to be on the receiving end of a letter and I will never fly with them again unless it's coming out of someone else's pocket (read ... the bank).

I'd much rather pay a higher fare and be treated with a little more consideration. Southwest here we come!

Wow that is crazy, the first bag for sure should be free....

I believe SW is still free for the 1st and 2nd.

I would think the new rules shouldn't apply to flights already booked or you should have the right to cancell without a fee.

Let us know how you make out

Kim

Andy just texted me. He is in FL and at lunch with his Mom and Walt.

Says it is 92* and sunny.

Better hope your wife doesn't decide to pop on here and see that you have advertised her age to the cyber public! :rotfl:

Suz and I have the same feeling about age. It is only a number. We feel people who get upset with their age are the ones who are not happy with their lives or where their at, at a certain age.

Suz' sister is a good example of that. She turned 40 last year and wouldn't celebrate it. Never wants the kids to know her age either.

We just enjoy life as it is. :cool1:

ps. She also know that I will broadcast that she is almost 4 years older than me and when she was a Senior, if we dated, I would have been in 8th grade. :lmao:

Suz just sent that article to me. It starts June 15th.

This is just insane. To charge for ONE bag? That makes it no different than a bus now, except in the air.

At least it was good to see that Delta was not going to follow suit. Hopefully this will backfire on AA and they will not impliment it.

BTW, what legal ground does a passenger stand on since when they entered into the contract (i.e. purchased the ticket), they were allowed 1 bag free of charge? :confused3 I know this was a discussion on the repo thread boards because of all the luggage people were taking for those trips.

I think it will be the death of an airline if they continue to charge for the one bag. Someone will not, and that is where the public will go.

Unless they want to become strictly a commuter airline, but that would be sad for such a larger worldwide carrier.

BTW, I think Midwest has NOT even implemented the 2nd bag fee yet. Maybe be wrong. I'll have to check their site.

Just checked. Midwest still allows 2 bags per person to be checked.

That will be great for our flights coming up. We usually only check 1 each, but want the ability to do a 4th (for the 3 of us) if need be (at no cost).

I'm sure they're hoping people won't mind too much since it's "only" 15 dollars...but that would be an extra 45 dollars if we were flying American and each took one bag. And, I'm sure they will now have problems with people trying to take huge carryon luggage because they have to pay for checked luggage.

Maybe it's a good thing we don't travel often....

That's good....you may even want an extra bag on the way back for souvenirs!

It's going to be business people only flying them if the stick with this.
