Well we went and did it. We now have our flight for Oct. Went to Jet Blue and got a flight for $79.00 per person from Portland to Orlando no layovers streight through. I wish we could leave earlier but for that price. We leave at 1:45 and arrive 4:50.

Dan

Hey Dan, I read your post and called my dad right away. They live just a few minutes from the jetport and will be watching for the November dates to open. They would just take a cab to the jetport and leave the car at home.

Hope you all don't mind me butting in. I read this thread from time to time to keep up with my friends from the member cruise. My DH and I did this tour last April and LOVED IT!

You get picked up by a boat that is moored right next to the Magic. The ride over to St. John is beautiful and they will point out some celebrity homes you are passing. Once at St. John you board open air buses that take you to the beach. You get a beautiful view of Truck Bay from above before getting there. Upon arrival you first go to get your snorkel equipment and then you are free to go anywhere on the beach you want. The beach is a good size one with brown sugar sand. For those with children the shoreline is nice and quiet with some waves but nothing big. For those who like to snorkel there is a sunken trail you can follow. Your beach time is about 2 hours or so. You are told what time to meet up for the return trip. I know DH had time to do the snorkel trail twice and I got some shopping in at the little (and I mean little) gift shop. The return trip is just like the trip over...bus to boat, boat to the dock by the Magic. We had plenty of time after getting back to clean up, shop at the stores at the dock and even go to Paradise Point.

Hope this helps anyone looking at this excursion.
Thanks so much Mod Mary! In talking with my family, this will most likely be the excursion we take. My parents and sister have been to the East before and love Trunk Bay and want to return. We have only been to the West on our two cruises and are eager to swim at what many consider the best beach in the world.

I am really thinking we will end up booking with Delta for the $199 direct flight out of Bradley. I don't see Southwest's fares coming down low unless they are on specific flights. With Delta, I won't have to check in 24 hrs before departure either. The planes are MD88's and have 2-3 seating. This would be convenient for our family of four as well.

I am such an over zealous planner!

No you're not!!! That's why we're all here!!! :woohoo:

That is somewhat unexpected, but now that I think of it, it makes sense after reading your trip reports over the years.

I enjoyed the Chicken tenders at Plutos. Elaine liked the Tacos. I didn't like the burgers as they had onions in the meat. I do NOT like onions! :scared1: One day me and my dad each ordered a burger, took one bite, threw them away and each got back in line for some chicken tenders.

Can any recent cruisers confirm or deny the presence of onions in the burgers? Please tell me they don't have them anymore!

I could live on hot dogs, burgers and fries and chicken tenders (with Ken's honey-dijon sauce!) ;) :thumbsup2

Hmmm, I don't recall onions in the burger but I wasn't looking that close and I topped my burger with more onions :rolleyes1

Hi Mary :wave2: Nice to see you, hope you are feeling better! :goodvibes

Happy Birthday to Sean!!! :cake: party: :bday:

Well since Elaine is out for the day, I was given as Dan likes to say, "a honey do" list. One of the things was accomplished in the last half hour or so. I cleaned the kitchen, did some laundry, but now I am waiting for the kids to finish cleaning their playroom up. Once they do that, I can dust and vaccum the living room. There are some toys in here (living room) that Jay needs to put back in his toybox. That kid hates to pick up his stuff!!!:headache:

Maybe there was just onion powder in the meat. There was a definite onion taste in the burger.

ARgh at the Airline business. Earlier in the week I got all excited when I noticed that Delta lowered the fares from Bradley to $199. I just checked it today, and it is back up to $360. I had a feeling I should have jumped on it. I expect it may come down another time, but if it doesn't I will be kicking myself or driving! At the very least, I will be kicking myself while driving 1200 miles.

Hazel was going through my summer clothes and came across this pair of shorts that I wore as recently as last summer.

I think they might be a bit too big for me now.....:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Fantastic Price! Almost makes me envious of those of you on the east coast.

Thanks! I'll need to show this to my wife.

Yep I've suffered this as well. That's why I jumped on the $415 pp price that I got. I thought that I might get a better price but I didn't want to chance it going back into the $550-$600 range!

Not sure, but I know that Air Tran's sale ended Thursday, and even though the airlines don't price fix anymore  (anyone remember that stupid law suit?), they all seem to end at the same time.

The travel industry is getting hit hard. I don't think you'll have a problem with them going on sale again.

Hey Jeff...yeah I am guessing I will be able to get a decent deal. I saw Air Tran airfare for $166 RT from White Plains, NY. The only snag with that airport is that there is virtually no parking.

Someone was asking about the St. John Island Tour and if there was beach time. The answer is NO.

The whole time I was on it, I was wishing we could go to the beach. These are are few of the beaches we SAW from the tour, along with a few other shots. I have more on my other drive, I'll take a look and see what else I could upload.

What about a park and fly hotel? We do that when we go out of Chicago. We got a steal before our Mexico trip. It was only about $120 with all the taxes and fees and we could leave the car there for up to 14 days. Plus we got the room the night before. Parking alone at ORD would have been more.

Check to see if that airport is covered on this website: http://www.parksleepfly.com

We kept watching the Air Tran rates change too. We finally settled on a very good price although we're landing in Chicago instead. But with the cheap flights and the rental car, we still saved money. Thanks Jeff!:worship:

Thanks Jeff. Laura and I are really debating on what to do on St Thomas/St John. I want to be on that beach. Laura is afraid the travel time will be hard on the kids (and by extension us.) I'll show her your pics.

Yes they are different. The tour drives about to various historical landmarks.

Yeah I think my parents took the tour last time and felt it wasn't worth the money. The did enjoy St. John, but would rather have been on a beach in Trunk Bay.
