Hey, I just read a great article on CNN that might explain why we get so excited about these cruises :thumbsup2

Study: Experiences make us happier than possessions

"When people spend money on life experiences, whether they also take someone with them or buy an extra ticket or whatever, most of our life experiences involve other individuals," Howell said. People were fulfilling their need for social bonding while having these experiences, he said.

Another reason for increased happiness in experiences, the researchers found, was that people felt a greater sense of vitality or "being alive" during the experience and in reflection, Howell said.

"As nice as your new computer is, it's not going to make you feel alive," he said."

Thanks for that Kathy. You sound like a good shopper. My type of girl. Love the jewellery shops and Sean loves watches so that will be on my list.:thumbsup2

I have a black belt in shopping and the shoes to match! We'll get along just fine!

Did you know, of the 36 cruise yet to sail before ours, only 9 will be going on the Traditional Eastern Cruise? The other Easterns will stop in either St. Croix or Tortola.

If we didn't get messed up with August, our cruise would have been going to St. Croix (the second Eastern in a month was tending to go to the "special" destination, but because there were 3 Easterns in August, the first cruise each month starting in Sept goes to the "special" islands).

Does anyone remember the exact Nautical miles that the ship sails on a traditional Eastern and Western? Just wondering how many miles it will sail before we get on the ship.

I thought the Eastern was slightly over 2,200 and the Western was 2,100 something.

You haven't seen grouchy yet! :rotfl2:

Hey, isn't it nice to have it back to the old days when Nancy and I would take jabs at each other?

If money was no object and neither is time, name ONE place you'd like to spend 1 week in.

My answer: A new Disney ship on a cruise to Hawaii :lovestruc

My dream vacation would be Hawaii, but I would really like to spend more than one week there!!! ;)

Fellow BoBer's I need some input. Nancy and I are considering changing from cable tv to the Dish Network. If anybody out there has Dish how do you like it?

DAN

Love it!!!!!!!

We have a DVR so we can record shows, and the reception is good. The price is 1/2 of what our cable bill used to be. I don't know how their customer service is because I've never had to call.

Hope that helps!

You wouldn't take Thomas? :confused3

Boy, someone's looking at all the teeny details today! :lmao: :rotfl:

On our wish list of vacations, there is a trip to England when Thomas is older - old enough to appreciate seeing the sights but young enough to not mind travelling with Mom and Dad!

No prices yet. They only have the flights up to the 18th. I'm using the pricing and times you can get on that date. Since they won't be on sale when they are released, and the fares I'm finding are the non-discounted price, it is a good estimate.

I'm hoping we'll see them soon.

Don't forget Rockford. Isn't there a discount airline that flies out of there non-stop to Orlando (may Sanford)?

As for Chicago (O'Hare), we just did a park and fly at the Renaissance for $100. Got the room for the night and you can leave the car for up to 10 days. That is a steal. There is also the Holiday Inn (we stayed there when it was the Clarion). And since it is not a snowy time of year, there are a ton of others we'd look at with surface parking.

As for MKE's non-stops, you can book on Midwest into Tampa right now if you wanted to. I don't think it is too pricey either. Air Tran will be out soon though.

Allegiant flies out of Rockford into Sanford, but I'm trying to coordinate 3-4 groups of travellers, so I'm thinking I will try to have everyone fly into MCO. That's also the reason I'm not looking at Tampa. Not to mention, Allegiant is only booking flights through the end of July...I'll go bonkers waiting for them to post flights for October! I'm already nervous not having flights booked.

We did a park, sleep, and fly with Country Inn & Suites for $86 over Christmas...it wasn't bad, but the hotel was a bit out of the way. Was the Renaissance easy to get to? That was on my short list also, but it looked like it was further into Chicago. I do not like "big-city" driving and avoid it whenever possible!

If we did end up flying out of Chicago, I would definitely park somewhere other than the airport - either a hotel or park & fly - there was a nice park & fly by Midway we used for the '07 cruise that was only 8-something per day.
