10/23/11 - Disney Dream

Help me with the abbriviations

POR?? Port Orleans Riverside (a Disney moderate resort)

Quick Service?? Disney dining plan has various levels. Quick Service dining plans get you counter serve meals but not sit-down meals.

AKL Savannah View Animal Kingdom Lodge with a room overlooking the savannah where you can see animals (a Disney deluxe resort so it's a higher resort category)

DD.. Disney dining

I think I should be happy for you.. But do not know why??? :confused3

I hope that helps. I'm new to cruising but experience at Disney! :lmao:

We're new cruisers so I suspect there will be little left by the time we can book things! I would like to book spa appointments, any of the adult dining, and maybe a shore excursion but I'll be ok either way. The point of a child-free trip is forced relaxation. If all I do for the whole cruise is sit on my verandah with a good book and a glass of wine (or coffee, depending on what time of day), the cruise will be well-worth the cost!!! :lmao:

Well now I do know why I am happy for dsnydaddy.. That is one heck of an upgrade. Congrads.. have always like The Animal Kingdom Lodge Or should I say AKL...

Mucho thanks Amanda I have to admit when I first read the e-mail I thought "AKL Savannah View" Had something to do with the Great State of Georgia..

Thanks again and Congrads again

Mike

AKL is our favorite resort. Of course, my is an animal lover so it fits (we have 4 dogs, 3 cats, 100gal Fish tank, and about 50 chinchillas as she works with chinchillarescue.org).

Our other favorite is the Boardwalk. But since AKL was built, that is were we usually end up. On one of our last cruises ,we bought more DVC points specifically at AKL so we could get the Concierge Suites before each cruise (they get booked early).

Unfortunately, the Conceirge Suits don't get to see the Savannah from the windows (too high and centrally located). But, one can always walk around to see them (kinda like a Oceanview cabin vs Balcony). But, the Conceirge does get a free wine/nite cocktail, breakfast and snacks through out the day (like being on the ship).

Also, there are a few AKL tours of the Savannah if you get a chance. They take you out and up close to the animals. And the buffet restaurant (Boma) there is VERY good. :thumbsup2

1st you are living my dream here, taking a Disney cruise Kid free vacation...

But seriously fear not, I do not believe that all the spa slots will be taken.. If it is anything like the other ships, those people do their best to have extra time slots open.. And I hope that you can do some of the dining.. But you know. to be honest for the 1st cruise you really will have so much other things to do.. It is almost unfair trying to strap on more.. But I have firmly believe in Disney magic.. and a dose of Pixie dust will make it happen...

Mike

how did you get that price?

Upon reading my post I realized that I missed a key word. "additional" I already paid off the trip so I only had to fork over an additional $300. I wish I could get that deal for only $300. I'd be there every other month!

Hi Mike. Sorry for the DIS-Geek speak. I'm glad there was someone there to interpet for you.

phew! I'm glad i didn't miss some big Disney sale! We're staying one night pre cruise at AKL in a value 1 bedroom and it was $400 for one night! And that's AFTER the DVC 25 percent off rack rate discount!

Thanks Mike! I appreciate your kind words. This is my BIG 40th birthday trip and just getting on a Disney cruise is dream enough for me. We're foodies and would love the meal upgrade but I'm not worried about it one way or the other. If a spa treatment is meant to be, great. And if not, I'll just spend the time enjoying another drink on the veranda! We're very short-staffed at work right now and my schedule is so stressful and crazy that I will appreciate any quiet time I get.

Hello everyone! I'm Paige and I, along with my good friend, Lori, aka Goofyfreak, are cruising with you all. This will be my fifth, not sure about Lori. We are leaving the husbands and kiddos home for this one. Let's say it's a "mommycation!" We've previously cruised with a few of you (Steve, I didn't know you were on this cruise! Looking forward to seeing you and Laura!)

I'm sure Lori will be around soon, if she hasn't said hi already. I'll let her tell y'all all about herself

I live in Valrico, FL (outside Tampa). My family moved here a couple months ago after my husband retired from the USMC. So glad to be in our "permanent home."

We cruised the Dream in June, and I am trilled to get back on the ship in October. :goodvibes

Hi Paige. Welcome to the cruise. Glad you could join us.

I'm Jeff and will be traveling with my DW Suz and our DS who is 11. But you know that already. :rotfl:

We've actually sailed with Paige and her family twice before and have seen them on a few non-DCL occasions too. She is a great lady and a great friend. Y'all will love her.

Can't wait to see Lori on the thread too.

For anyone staying at AKL/AKV I highly recommend the Wanyama Safari. Only guests of AKL/AKV can sign up for this safari through the savannas of AKL/AKV then a wonderful dinner at Jiko. We did this last January while staying there and totally loved it.

We're foodies and would love the meal upgrade but I'm not worried about it one way or the other.

Did you guys notice that the 1-bedroom suite opened up on the cruise?? Oh how I wish I could get that. I'm praying that it'll be still available at cruising time so maybe I can squeeze DH into upgrading at the port:cool1:

Does anyone know if there will be a Halloween party of sorts on our sailing?party: Will it take the place of pirate night?pirate:

I'm curious as to how to pack & plan for this. On our 7 day magic cruise, my hubby & I were the only adults in costume on Pirate night :rolleyes1. I'm hoping this time will be different but also wondering if we're limited to only pirate gear? :clown:

Any help would be appreciated!

A couple of years ago, DCL changed their policy on Halloween celebrations. Used to be that the only sailing that celebrated was the cruise that Halloween landed on. However in 2009 they started celebrating during every 7 night sailing in the month of October. I'm really not sure what they do with the shorter cruises. There's already so much to do crammed into such a short time. When we were on the Magic in 2009 we were not limited to pirate gear. But I wasn't about to pack another costume. Our kid's pirate costumes did triple duty that year. Pirate night, Halloween night and MNSSHP.

I don't know if it means anything but if you look at the gift & amenities that Disney is selling they have a few Halloween items...
