10/23/11 - Disney Dream

Tommy,

Hubby and I will be driving to the Hampton Inn, daughter and her family will meet us there. They will be leaving their car at the hotel, we will be using our van and just drive and park at the port. Not sure but prob hubby will just make 2 trips to the port. The shuttles are really a cattle car! We use the park and cruise package for them to leave their vehicle there. It is only $10 more for the package so it saves them some bucks.

We have a van that has been adapted with a lift so parking is free for that.
We have a Florida Toll exemption for it.

I just read that all the hotels that have free shuttles are going to start charging after may 1st the port is starting to charge all vehicles entering the port area. But if you book a package that includes a free shuttle it still will be free.

It doesn't really affect me I plan on cabing it the shuttles leave to late

Where did you read that? Does that include people who are just dropping off/picking up? My folks live in Orlando and always drive us to the port and pick us up after so we don't have to leave our car and pay for parking. That would really stink if they start to charge for that.

Booked Hamton Inn for the night before the cruise last night--just couldn't resist hanging on the beach. Looking forward to enjoying the beach & the port area & want to have dinner at Grills as I have heard great things about it.

Have been up for hours enjoying the festivities of the Royal Wedding. Happy Wedding Day/Holiday to all the Brits. I truly hope Wills & Kate will be very, very happy.

This was from another board

Looks like it's just for hotels I believe

I want to update you on what the Radisson Resort at the Port is doing effective May 1 2011. Because of new charges (from the Canaveral Port Authority) for commercial passenger vehicles entering the cruise terminals and continued raising operating costs, Radisson will no longer be offering free shuttle and parking to all guests. Free shuttle and parking will still be available as part of our Park and Cruise packages. For guests that choose another rate, there will an option (at a charge) to add parking and shuttle once they arrive at the Resort. Any reservations that have been made prior to May 1, 2011 will be given free parking and shuttle to the Port per our current marketing message – regardless of arrival date.

Also

Beginning Monday April 18, 2011 the Radisson will be selling non hotel guest parking and shuttle to the Port. The cost of this will be $6.99 Daily. We believe this will be a great alternative to the Ports charge of $15 per day, for the folks that live locally and are cruising.

Welcome aboard, you will have a blast...

--- Let your the Head waiter know of your B-day & anniversary.. And they will arrange something special for you one night at dinner

Per snorkeling they have a nice fenced off area for families to play, & you can rent snorkel gear if you so want .. The beach is perfect for kids.. And you can go out as far as you feel comfortable. The sand slopes out very gradually ..

Also out in the deeper water they have artifacts under the water, Mickey statues and even sunken submarines.... That may be a little far for the 6 year old,, But something to shoot for for you to see...

Have Fun

Mike

Welcome! This is our 1st cruise, too. We're going without the kids to celebrate my 40th.

Hiya Folks!

Haven't been around much lately -- went back to work full time (have to pay for these cruises some how!)

Getting excited about the cruise -- thinking of maybe going to Kennedy Space Center the day before. Have to start making arrangements b/c October will be here before we know it!

Just swinging through to check in. Been busy on my end so I haven't had time to stop by the thread.

Currently planning a trip to WDW. Seems to be coming a tradition for us when we cruise in October - we do a trip to WDW at the end of summer or Labor Day weekend.

Hello!!! We will be on this cruise! I haven't looked throught the whole thread, but I would also like to be a part of the FE exchange if there is one yet.

Thanks and looking forward to this cruise!

:welcome: Welcome aboard!

I'm in charge of the FE exchange. Here's what you need to do/know:

Anyone who wants to participate in the FE, please PM me with the following:

Subject: Dream FE
Disname
Cabin number (or TBA if not yet assigned)
First name, fellow travelers' names and relationship (DH, DD, DS, friend, etc.)
Ages of children (ages of adults are optional)
Anything you are celebrating
Any allergies, esp. food allergies

Be sure you put "Dream" in the subject, so I know you're on this trip and not the WBTA.

If anyone needs info on FE's, here are some posts you can peruse. (Thanks to karentan over on the WBTA thread, from whom I stole these!:thumbsup2)

FE basics
fish extender info
instructions for the no sew FE
handmade FE gift ideas
other FE gift ideas

As people sign up and the date gets closer, we'll see how many we have. If the list gets long, we can talk about splitting it up. There were only 10 cabins participating on our last trip so it was really easy to get to everyone.

If anyone thinks of anything else I should include, please let me know.

In case anyone would like an update on the list, we have 24 cabins signed up so far. There are 24 women, 21 men, 6 teens (4 M, 2 F), and 23 kids (10 M, 13 F). I counted the two 12-year-olds as "teens" - thought they might prefer that. ;)

Since we've had some procedural discussion over on the WBTA thread, I thought I'd share some ideas here.

We should probably set a cut off date for signing up. Any thoughts? Sept 1 would be good for me, as I will be away from Sept 6-25. Sept 26 would be okay, but it gives everyone just under a month to get things together.

As mentioned before, we can split the list up into groups if we think we need to do that, but I think we should wait til around August to see how the sign-up is going.

I prefer to leave it up to the individuals to decide if you'd rather give a gift to each person in each cabin, or just a single cabin gift. Same with when you deliver them. There was a suggestion on the WBTA of assigning days to deliver, which was quickly over-ruled by the majority. We're on vay-cay, after all!

If anyone has any strong feelings about how any of this should be done, please feel free to let me know - you can PM if you prefer.

I lack the arts and crafts gene so I'm thinking of ordering a FE from either Etsy or Ebay. Here's my question: For the October cruise it'll just be my DH and me. We are then cruising the following June (2012) with our 3 children. I think I'd like to just order an FE that has the whole family on it rather than paying for 2 FEs. Do you think it'll be weird or problematic to hang our FE with the children's names on it even if they aren't with us for the cruise? Is there a better solution?

Thanks,
Amanda

Amanda, when I cruise without DM, we are both on our FE, I fold up the pocket with her name on it (bottom) and just have mine hanging. I use little snaps I sewed on, but small pieces of stick-on velcro might also work.

I was going to suggest something like that. You could even use a couple of safety pins and pin it up. Or you could just put a note on it that it's just the two of you. You definitely don't need two different FEs, though.

I'm planning to post a final list with cabin numbers and who will be participating in each cabin. So if everyone goes by that, they should be able to figure out that it's only the two of you.

Thanks for the advice! I was thinking about sticking in little notes that the kids are stuck at home going to school. :thumbsup2
Now I just need to decide what to order...

Amanda
