10-21-12 Dream!!!

You also have people like me that dont book any excursions. so i dont pay attention to when i can start booking anything. So theres 2 spots for someone who wants to do something. your welcome :rotfl:

Thanks, Lindsay!

Really I just want a palo dinner. Im interested in the parasailing, but don't feel the need to spend the extra cash, when just sitting on the beach will make us happy!

OK all, I just had an interesting hitch in my planning for this vacation. I am trying to sort out what to do and would appreciate your opinion if you don't mind.

I just found out that I will be sent to Dubai for work from 11 to 18 October. This means that I will be even farther from Florida when I set out on my journey.

I am considering whether to book a direct flight from Dubai to the USA or to return to Europe for a connecting flight.

Trade off----

direct flight gets me to WDW Friday morning/early afternoon rather than Saturday evening as I had expected would happen BUT it means a 14 hour flight to Washington DC or nearly 16 hour flight :scared1: to Atlanta and then I'm still not to Orlando.

connecting through Europe means more flights but for shorter times 6 to 9 hours at a go. But this then gets me to Disney at about midnight on Friday.

Either way I will need to sort accommodation for Friday night in Orlando. And either way I am sure I will be exhausted and running around the parks is not going to be high on my priorities when I will want to be significantly rested for the cruise. I also need to factor in the fact that I will change 8 time zones during the flight so my body will be a full third of the day out of whack.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Christopher

Happy about about your most recent post - congratulations!

Regarding the one before it - ugh! I'm not well travelled, internationally, but I would think just coming straight from Dubai, would be best. One flight - less chance of things going wrong, and you can hopefully just rest and sleep on the plane. Your body will certainly be out of whack from the travel and time changes, but you'll have all day Saturday to recuperate. On Saturday, I'd do something fun in the morning to rev yourself up a little, then hang out by the pool and relax during the afternoon. Go out to a nice dinner that night, and maybe catch the 9:00 illuminations?

Maybe Dubai will be great!

I just had another thought about this too.....not sure how I missed this minor detail.... I am going to have to pack my bag for the entire trip including a week of business attire for Dubai and then a week of casual attire for the Disney portion.....ugh that wont all fit into one suitcase.

I like your ideas for the Saturday. Will definitely put that on the list.

just over 19 weeks to the cruise now!!!

What about shipping your business clothes home from Dubai and sending your cruise clothes with your parents?

Hmmm. Shipping my things home from Dubai might be an option just to alleviate having to carry a bunch of things that I don't need.

Mom and Dad live in the USA so I can't really send it with them unless I were to ship a box of clothes to them as well.......Or I could just buy all new clothes when I get to Florida....... that is sounding more like my best option.:thumbsup2

I personally would take the direct flight, even though it means a longer time on the plane, if it gets you here earlier, and allows more time for you to get your body adjusted to the local time zone.

I also like the idea of shipping your things .. Any chance you could ship your cruise clothes before leaving, too, so they can come here and you don't have to bring them to Dubai?

New question:

My husband has a small manufacturing business. I know he'll want to check in for a few minutes each day. I have an iPhone. He has an old Motorola dumbphone which can text. (But he doesn't know how to do this. :) I can help him out.)

Our wireless carrier is Verizon. I've been trying to figure out the cheapest and safest way to call home, but really can't understand it!

Can someone walk me through it?

Thanks,
Tricia

I would recommend an application called Viber. It is available for free for iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone. It allows free texting and phone calls to other phones that also have Viber ....so your husband's contact would also need to have the Viber application installed.

It operates over WiFi which can be purchased and used on board the Dream either by the minute or in packages of time where the larger the package the less expensive the per minute rate will be. You are only charged for the minutes used on your data plan.

Also I have found this list of locations in Nassau that offers free Wifi which would allow for one day of not having to pay for internet service:

All Starbucks locations:

- Woodes Rogers Walk
- Marina Village, Paradise Island
- Cable Beach Casino
- Harbour Bay Shopping Center
- Mall at Marathon
- Oakes Field
- The Reef, Atlantis

Conch Fritters, West Bay Street, opposite British Colonial Hilton
The Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort (paying guests)

Mall at Marathon Food Court
McDonalds in Oakes Field and Downtown
Different of Nassau, Casuarinas Cable Beach, West Bay Street

I think that this would be one of your cheapest options and worth considering.

You keep coming through for me Christopher! Thanks!!!

And only 68 until my kids go back to school! Woot!

Ahhhh...Here that countdown number is 77.

But there are still 16 more days until the last day of school for this year. That countdown is the foremost in my mind.........well except for the 10 days until I can book things for the cruise!

At least I know I'm not the only one counting the days until they go back! I have so many little milestones between now and the cruise ... These days can't go fast enough!

Well, I am not really counting down to the start of the new school year.....as a teacher, I am looking forward to the summer vacation and hope it drags on a bit.;)

But yes, the countdown with little milestones is definitely making the longer wait for this cruise a bit easier.

Christopher

why not just use skype?
you can download skype to your iphone...
you can skype for free to another skype account, and if you open a paid skype account you can skype for free to regular land lines...

skype can also be used over wifi

i would fly direct - less chance of something going wrong along the way - volcanic ash, airport/airline strikes, etc.

take two suitcases and see if you can leave the boring business stuff landside rather than take it with you..
