10/15/2011 - Taking the West by Magic!

Welcome aboard! I added you onto the roll call, I can add names if you want to give them to me, and if you decide you want to join the FE, then let me know, we're accepting new members up until the end of July!

Oi, I didn't do a very good job of introducing myself! My DW is Nicole, and I am Hans. It's good to meet you all!

Nice to meet you too Hans! :) As for dolphin encounters, there's a thread on the board that talks about them and advising folks not to do them, given that, we did a dolphin encounter at Chakanaab, that was really just OK, not great, and I wouldn't recommend it but Chakanaab itself was nice. We're going to Discovery Cove the week before the cruise (not the whole week, just one day, we're doing a lot of other things that week too!) and that should be great, I've seen a lot of posts from folks who liked the Blue Lagoon dolphin encounter (is that even on Cozumel?) but haven't done it myself.

Hi. ;)

This will be our first cruise, and we are very excited! My DW and I will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary  on this trip.

We are trying to narrow down which excursions we are interested in. I think we will do Key West on our own, and we chartered our own boat for Grand Cayman--we're pretty lost about Cozumel, however. Are dolphin encounters worth it, and which one is better?

:wave2: Hi and :welcome: congrats on your 10th :cool1:

Could we arrange a group meet at the brunch at Palo? That would be fun to eat with everyone. It has been 10 years since our last trip on the Magic. We celebrated our anniversary dinner there and it was very romantic. Ten years later I am more excited about the food than the romance.:thumbsup2

:rotfl: bunny's dh look the other way  our FE group tried that on our last cruise, but Palo was a no go, but getting together at a breakfast at one the sit down places like - Parrots Cay may work ;) :grouphug:

DF and I are trying to go to Palo's for dinner one night to celebrate our honeymoon, but honestly...we're more excited about the food, as well.:rotfl:
Whenever we talk about the cruise, we go on and on about all the delicious meals we'll get to eat. I suppose to others it sounds as if our priorities are a little misplaced, but we just really love eating at nice restaurants.[/QUOTE]

Alicia I read your trip reports popcorn:: I don't think their misplaced - who doesnt enjoy a really good meal and your really good reports :surfweb: ;)

Thanks! Although, I have been slacking on the most recent TR, I'm just too busy looking up cruise pictures. :rotfl:

That food looks delicious! And dessert...for brunch?! I love the idea!:thumbsup2 Now, I am in the process of texting my DF at work and asking him if he wants to try and get a Palo dinner and a Palo brunch.

It is delicious! I highly recommend the Palo brunch, I think I like it better even than dinner!

The more I hear and see, the more I want to get a Palo brunch reservation, although I would at least like to get a dinner reservation (hopefully on our anniversary).

Are there three brunches on this sailing, days two, three, and six? Also, if I don't want to miss the show in any of the dining rooms, which nights should I aim for Palo reservations?

And how bad are the odds of getting a reservation?

We'll have 2 days of brunches on our cruise, one on each sea day. Depending on how crowded the cruise is (and ours isn't sold out), there may not be any brunch reservations available when your booking window opens up, but they do hold about half of the reservations back for cruisers to book onboard the ship. I think they still hold them in Rockin' Bar D (on deck 3) but I'm not sure what time, once you get on board, you can ask Guest Services, or just go directly down to it and see about a reservation.

If those are all gone, then call Palo or go up there the first night and get on a waiting list, they try really hard to accomodate, and certainly let them know you are on an anniversary cruise since it can't hurt!

Hi & welcome aboard :cheer2:
You will have a fantastic time your girls will love it.

So what do you guys not want to miss this time around that you haven't done? Jillian and I want to go to the dessert buffet and watch POC on the ArielView after the Pirate party, she'll get us a couple of chairs and I'll run down and get the blanket from my bed. Oh yeah, and I want a Konk cooler!

Anyone else?

Everything we do will be a first, so it is a hard question to answer!

Some of our goals:
  1. Margaritaville Superfecta -- Getting a photo of DW drinking a margarita in the Margaritavilles in Key West, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and Orlando.:drinking1
  2. Formal dining -- We haven't done that since our wedding, so we are going to try and have some fun dressing up.:dancer:
  3. Using underwater camera -- We're really hoping our new, cheap little sports camera will take some nice shots in and around the water.:artist:

For this one, be sure you go snorkeling at CC. There are some neat statues and things to look at scattered around the bay. There are buouys that mark the spot so you can find them, but you can take a picture of the family with Mickey underwater! (I'm pretty sure he's back from getting his head broken off in a hurricane a couple of years ago...)

They've also got the old submarine from the 20,000 leagues under the sea ride from Disneyland sunk down there.

It's too soon to pack and I couldn't think of anything to plan, so I glommed together this "logo" for the cruise.

OK, I guess I can't post a picture or make a link. Well, it's here: sonsoflars.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10005/normal_magic-west-2011.jpg if you want to look at it.

I would love to see that! That was one of my favorite rides as a boy at WDW.
