10/15/2011 - Taking the West by Magic!

Natalie is 2yrs old, is it something I should even bother with (Tea with Wendy) and if so, hit guest service as a priority once I get on the ship? My best friend Amy has a daughter 7yrs old..would it be something she should do?

They would probably both enjoy it very much. I'd definitely hit Guest Services when you get on board.

I hope this is not accurate but I just read an article from the Sentinel that Castaway Cay did not have any structural damage from Irene but there is a lot to do to get the island in order and Disney plans on resuming stops there in November or earlier!!!! Yikes. I would be very disappointed to not have this island day....

Nevermind....I think the article I read was from the last hurricane. Still looking for info in damage from Irene.

I haven't seen anything yet on the status of CC, if the dock and pier is still OK (and it's made of concrete and great big rocks, not wood...) then the rest is fairly cosmetic. They don't have any full time residents, and there just aren't a lot of structures on the island to have to repair, now Pelican Plunge may be down, and the last time they had a big hurricane hit there the Mickey statue in the snorkel lagoon got his head broken off, so they replaced him with Minnie, but I bet they'll have it up and running long before we go there.

Apropos and tasty, too:
Hurricane, New Orleans Style
1 oz white rum
1 oz Jamaican dark rum
1 oz Bacardi® 151 rum
3 oz orange juice
3 oz unsweetened pineapple juice
1/2 oz grenadine syrup
crushed ice

Combine all ingredients, mix well (shake or stir). Pour over crushed ice in hurricane glass. Best enjoyed through a small straw. Garnish with fruit wedge if desired.

:rotfl: is this for me, myself and IRENE :rotfl2:

The lemon drink at Palo is awesome!!!!! Their Lime Sorbet that they serve at dinner as a palate cleanser is also awesome. We talked Liam (our head server last year) into bringing us a big bunch of it one night for dessert we loved it so much!

Say no more... I'm looking forward to it :drinking1

Be safe and be careful, I see that tinkerbelx is from long island and I am sure has evacuated by now.

I usually limit myself to two drinks at a time, but I am not one to judge ;)

:woohoo: Whooop whoop :cheer2:
After reading through it, it was actually a lot of teenagers gushing over cute xruise staff, but there were some excellent shout outs. I feel confident whoever we end up with will be super!

I agree, I hope all of our cruisers living on the east coast are battened down and safe!
This hurricane will keep me busy at work this weekend, probably more than I want to be. The silver lining is that the OT will mean more for the cruise fund! Hope and pray everyone on the coast stays safe.:umbrella:

In order to upgrade the Magic's horn, they'd have to rip out the current horns. I'm not sure if the Dream horns are digital, but the Magic actually have the different horns that make up the notes to When You Wish Upon A Star. I do think that the Dream horn has a different "timber", so it just doesn't sound the same to me :cutie:

Tea with Wendy is an event that you can sign up for with your kiddos to go learn how to take a "proper tea" with Wendy and the Mad Hatter in Studio Sea. It's not really tea, it's apple juice, but it's cute for the kids. You do go to Guest Services to sign up as it's space limited. We've done it once, probably don't need to do it again.

And yes, Okim and Mikey were our server and assistant server on our Med cruise, we loved them! We actually got a picture of our family with Okim and Mikey, plus Raphael who was our Server on our Halloween cruise in 2008 (our assistant server Daniel went to the Dream), plus Brendan who was our server on our very first Magic cruise back in 2006! We saw Brendan coming into our first dinner, and he remembered us which just floored me! Either they have fantastic memories, or Disney does really good intelligence for those servers who've been with the company a long time to remind them of past cruisers :confused3, either way, it's really nice.

Are there age restrictions on tea with wendy? I never paid attention to any of the children's activities on my past cruises, now i am clueless.

We haven't been evacuated as my house is just north of evacuation border, however most of my friends and family have. DH is busy outside right now on Irene prep, buses and trains are stopping service in 1 hour and yet my mom is getting ready to go to work at the disney store. Yes they are still open! We couldn't get our hands on a generator as they sold out on Tuesday... so if i disappear for a few days you know why.

Anyone else on the cost?

No, there are no age restrictions, any age can go, from infant all the way up to Grandmothers and Grandads! Stay safe, batten down the hatches and just hang out!

I am wondering if anyone is bringing Duffy along for their cruise or will I be the only one?

...they could smell like the inside of a tauntaun and still not want to shower unless they were sandy!

It's from another thread, but I couldn't let it pass without giving it the recognition it deserved. Most excellent Star Wars reference!:thumbsup2

+1

I've been wondering if anyone was ever going to catch that! :happytv: Kudos to you for picking up on it!

Oh, and I've also called it "kid soup". Like when I was driving 4 8 year old boys to my son's birthday party, and it's 90 degrees outside, and the inside of my car smells like little boy soup after mini-golf :lmao:

What's Duffy??!! lol

From the Disney page: One day Mickey was preparing to set sail for a long voyage around the world. Minnie thought he should have something special to remind him how much he was loved at home. She stayed up all night to hand-make a plush teddy bear with all of her heart. Mickey adored him and named him Duffy.

With Duffy in tow, Mickey traveled the globe and went to ports in California, Japan, Castaway Cay, Paris and Hong Kong. There were plenty of stops along the way to meet old friends and make new ones. Mickey and Duffy took pictures together, always saying "Cheese!" in front of landmarks and with their pals.

Here's more info: I think he's kinda cute :flower3
