Well, we were feeling very un-Disney like as of late. It appears we won't be able to make it to the Summer Dis meet. I will be in Front Royal, VA for 13 weeks within the next month (give or take a few weeks) but will be out of the area before everyone gets together. So, with the next Cruisetoberfest a year away, we finally went a booked our Sept. 19th stay with Disney Chris kept asking "How does everyone else manage to take so many trips to WDW a year and we only go once and only have the two of us?" WELLL - after having him go to AAA with me and help to tell our TA what it is we wanted and then him seeing the price of the completed package, he quit asking! :faint: So we're booked and now I have something to keep me occupied for the next FEW months, the endless planning has begun! Anyone else going to be around 09/19/2005 - 09/25/2005? Take care everyone, Denise & Chris

Beads....and more beads. We got a ton. Plus moon pies, tooties rolls, & Mardi Gras coins. We had a great place to stand just past the start of the parade route. The weather was cloudy and cool, and it started to rain, so there was not a huge crowd like years past. The kids shouted for beads, and I just stood to the back and clapped when the floats went by. But I had quite a few thrown to me. Jeanne I did not have to show any part of my anatomy for beads. LOL This is a strickly "G" rated Mardi Gras event. :flower:
Wow, The Boston trip is sounding really great. Eric and Anja are in for a real treat. (Just don't try to take them canoeing.) :teeth: :duck:
Marianne, Hoping everything works out OK. Hang in there.

Got to run,
Later, Avé

Denise and Chris -- You really need to consider buying into DVC. We are going in April (Saratoga Springs). Then we are taking the kids in June for a stay at BWV after a Wonder cruise. To Hilton Head in September with a couple of friends of ours from Florida, and then I am going back to Disney in October with a good friend of mine -- girls only (hopefully BWV again if we can get in at 7 months, otherwise OKW where we already have a reservation). Love the food and wine festival! Gave my son some points for a stay at HH in December. It is so much fun and free deluxe rooms (well, amost free after your purchase is paid off). Joining DVC was one of the best things we ever did! I know we discussed this a little bit on the cruise -- if you plan to go back to Disney all the time (as we all do on this board), it might be very economical for you.

Denise -- Forgot to ask what you are going to be doing in VA, or this that a secret? Will Chris be able to come down and visit?

Boy Jeanne, Am I there with you. Nothing beats NY bagels ( salt bagels are the best) or pickles. I have a gallon of pickles in my fridge courtesy of Tulirose, Oh they are soooo good. If we make a trip to the city this spring ( 4 hr drive) I will let you know and can always fed-ex a care package to you.

Bye, Kim

Thanks, Kim.......you're a real sweetie for offering, but Fed-Ex just won't do it.I want my NY bagel fresh from the oven! Whenever we go we usually bring back a few dozen to share, but after the long journey, they're just not the same. We have to make sure Eric and Anja get to a real H&H.

Ave....about the beads.....yeah, sure, whatever you want us to believe........

10/14 through 10/18: mandatory annual convention in Chicago.

Jeanne--

You're going to be in Chicago? Maybe we should try & get a group together at that time! What do you think, Tracy?

Marianne

That's a long time away! I think I'm open! Let me know!

Maryanne ... Are your ears burning? The other day Art was listening to some of the Patsy Cline you were singing at Karaoke. Hope things are more calmed down for you on the home front for your sake and the kids. You and Andy need to get together and do a duet for Karoke in 2006.

My ears were burning, but I thought it was an inner ear infection. :rotfl: :rotfl:

I am all for karaoke with Andy in 2006--he needs to find a song or two for us.

Marianne

Marianne -

I see that you're from NW of Chicago. Where at? I grew up in Elgin and then lived in Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg and Elk Grove Village. I still have lots of family up there, and we're hoping to get up there again this year for Taste of Chicago. We've haven't been to the Taste since we moved to Florida 7 years ago.

Bagels sound great. Anja is very fond of bagels with creamcheese.

We are going in May on the repo ..

with Bettemom and a few other about 300

Piglett33 and winotracy are on the aug. cruise...

Just to clear that up it is about 100 day to go..

Jeanne - We looked into DVC in 2003, but the amount we were spending didn't seem to justify it. But now, as Chris' dream vacations keep getting grander, I do believe we will see if our DVC guy is still there and talk to him again. The other reason we didn't go DVC was we both like the resorts you can't use DVC for (or did I misunderstand that part?)! But, Chris will have to bite the bullet on that one I think.

As for VA, my k-9 partner Kiya turns 8 years old today. That is mandatory age for retirement. So because our program is changing with the new agency formation, I will have to go back for 13 weeks to train my new partner. I will drive home most weekends. But I got Chris to commit to coming out there at least once. I lived in DC for 4 years and loved it and would love to take Chris around and show it to him! Which means if I go to school in April-ish, we both might make it to a DIS meet!

Denise,

Where does Kiya go when she retires? Does she stay with you or move in with new people since you obviously will be getting a new dog? You and Chris both have K-9 partners right? I know, too many questions this early in the morning, but I forgot to ask on the cruise and you just reminded me. :teeth:

Denise -- I am also interested in seeing what will happen to Kiya after she retires. Did you have her for her entire career?

As for Disney resorts (other than DVC), you can use those with DVC points, but the point value is very high. I think you are Poly fans and we spent many years at that resort and still love it. You could probably only get one vacation a year at the Poly if you joined DVC (depending on how many points you bought, of course). But then you could always alternate a year at the Poly and then take a couple of vacations the next year at DVC resorts. Worth looking into as the room rates climb and climb. I don't think we could afford the deluxe resorts anymore, or at least wouldn't want to spend that much money every year.

Glad to hear that you and Chris will be able to get together every week!

wants to know when Kiya retires, does he/she get a party with a gold watch for her/his colar? Does he/she get a pension of 30 Big Dog Biscuits a month or something like that? Does he/she get to keep her badge? Is there a catch that he/she has to help train the replacement? :rotfl2: Now seriously ... dumb question who makes a "better partner" a he or she and do they have to have :earseek: the "alteration" surgery?

We still can't understand why people are willing to pay so much for a stay at WDW, i.e. Poly or Grand Floridian  We usually go to WDW to enjoy the parks as much as possible und use our room only for showering/sleeping/changing. So we're satisfied with a value resort like AllStarMovie. We once stayed at DixieLandings, but although we liked it, we didn't see any extra-value if compared to ASM.
But perhaps it's simply one of the cultural differences between Americans and Germans :confused3

Perhaps he/she starts his/her own business: 'Kiya, P.I.' (In Hawaii of course), the 'Dogford files', or the 'Fall Dog' :rotfl2:

Denise, Does Kiya have a home to retire to? What kind of dog is she? We are seriously looking to adopt. I think with a little training on our part...learning her commands and demands....we would love to have her be a part of our family. PM me with/for more info if this is possible!

As for what WDW Resort to stay at...well, we have stayed Moderate and Deluxe. The Poly is our favorite, but I realllly like the Contemporary too. We have not stayed at any of the Values (yet) because we have always been afraid they would be too small for our family of 4. We have since bought a timeshare with Westgate Resorts and love it. Although it is a short drive to the parks it's never a problem. We always have a rental car or drive down to Fl in our own car. I would like to stay at PC though. Maybe if we can get really good rates and ajoining rooms we might concider it!
