Just a side note ~ Welcome to all the new cruisers!

Diana

Welcome back Diana. I was thinking about you just yesterday and wondering if you were home from your trip. Sounds like you had a wonderful time.

Nancy

Thanks Nancy. We had a wonderful time.....they are still in the rebuilding process along the hotel zone. You see 3 or 4 beautiful hotels then mass destruction beside them. You can also see the destruction to the jungle when your plane is landing.

Vacations are thrilling, but nothing beats the smiles and hugs from your DH, DS and 3 wonderful grandkids welcoming you home!

Now it's time to concentrate on the cruise! Yipee!

Hi drknight! I bought a cooler on wheels that looks like a carryon suitcase for the cruise. After lugging 2 suitcases and a carryon to Cancun just for me, I am seriously rethinking about the cooler since there will be 2 adults and 4 kids. I think I will just suck up the extra money for drinks and food once go off the ship for excursions.

OMG, you must be one of those people who Eric says pulls their closet to the airport. I am trying hard to pack lighter and lighter for each trip. The cruise is harder since you have to bring a suit for DH and something for me to wear on formal night. Anymore I take a black and navy skirt and just wear tops that I can use with my shorts and to dinner.

I hope you have a big van to get you, Jenn and the kids stuff to the airport.

Hi there! It has been sooooooooooo long since I have posted but I have been keeping up on the thread. We are getting very excited now that the cruise is getting close. I have been busy with the end of the school activities, then we were at WDW for the past 2 weeks and now we are gearing up for 2 of our three kids to have minor surgery within the next month and a half. (DD 7yrs is have tonsils removed, DS 5yrs some "boy" minor matter). SO, we are going to be SOOOOOOOOOOOO ready for this cruise!!!

I'll be posting more now that we are getting closer, that is after all this medical stuff!!

Glad to be Aboard!!

Yep Nancy ~ guilty!!! I always seem to need one suitcase for my shoes......my family says I have enough shoes in my closet to start my own store. I don't necessarily wear every pair I take, but I do find comfort in knowing that I have that option and I really do try to pack light! :rotfl2:

I always tell my granddaughters that there are three things in life a girl never has enough of ~~ shoes, purses and coats. :dance3:

I have a few months to get my cruise wear streamlined to one suitcase and one carryon or else I better start lifting weights.

I was wondering what women and boys around DGS age (11) wear for formal night.

Diana, if you check out our photo in my signature, you can see David in the middle. He's wearing just a simple, short-sleeved, button down shirt & dress slacks. The first year we went, we got him a dress shirt & tie, and he hated it. As for Heidi, she's a teenager now, and LOVES cocktail dresses. So she always gets something dressy. I had a pair of black slacks & 2 or 3 tops dedicated to dinner.

Your post about suitcases made me chuckle. I met Ciadriamom on the last cruise--we became fast friends. She came into our room & noticed the lack of luggage and said, "That's all you brought for three of you???" There were three of them and she must have had 5 suitcases. But they looked fabulous the entire cruise!

The way I see it, 90% of the time, you're in shorts & tees or a swimsuit. What more do you need?

I'm so with you, Marianne! In my mind, the less I take, the better. And there's always the disposable underwear, of course! I've been saving it for quite some time now, so I should have enough for the entire cruise! And as long as I don't get hit by a car while sailing, no one will know! :rotfl2:

Marianne ~ thanks for the tip ~~ Bryce will be relieved he doesn't need a suit

I'm not sure what Jenny and I will wear on formal night ~~ a really dress up cocktail dress would be a nice change for both Jenny and me.

Marianne & Jeanne ~~ Ok ~ I'll try to trim down to one REALLY BIG suitcase! I need to meet Ciadriamom ~~ she's my kind of traveller!

I haven't posted in a long time but I am now getting anxious :bounce: because the cruise is getting close. Almost time to make that final payment and make my excursion plans. What's everyone doing in Costa Maya? Anyone doing the new Ultimate Spa Experiences?

Here in Ohio we have had some pretty devastating rains and floods. Lots and Lots of water with some people getting up to 6 feet of water in their basements. Luckily we escaped from that.

Is anyone staying at the Radisson the night before? We are think about in and parking the car there instead of at the port.

Welcome back to dcannon101 and wilderness girl.

Diana--- My first 7 day cruise, I had such a difficult time making a decision what to take that I just put everything into the suitcases and you could hardly lift them. If we had gotten stranded on an island I could have not worn the same outfit for weeks. I don't have the problem with shoes usually as I don't have a big shoe collection. My weakness is sweaters.

Jeanne--- I have also been saving all those disposable underwear. I was tempted to take some with me for our May trip, but am holding off for the 2 week Oct vaction.

Okay ladies ~ I can't resist asking :confused3 Are you really talking about something like disposable adult panties or everyday panties that are ready to hit the rag bag??????

I remember that one of the contestants on Amazing Race had those disposable panties. Didn't she have to swim in them and they fell apart?

To answer your question it is those panties ready for the rag bag. Just throw and go.

Whew ~ I was worried I would know who the two of you were by the crunchy/swooishy sound they make when you walk and I would crack-up!
The kind my MIL wore made that noise.

Less :laundy: also.

Nancy's right: They're rag bag panties....ya know the kind that you can only use just about one more day. Throughout the year, save them instead of tossing them. Then you can bring them on vacation and discard them after each use. It gives you less laundry to deal with when you arrive home and allows some additional space in your luggage for souvenirs. It sounds funny but really works very well. Just be sure to bury your discards well in your trash or you'll have your room steward giving you funny looks!

You guys come up with such great ideas. I'll try it!

:listen: What else can I take and toss besides the sand buckets/shovels?
