Get out there and hit the street
Put a little dance step in your feet!
I hope you all enjoy your day!
may it be MAGICal, WONDERful and gay!

Hi all! Glad to have found you guys. My family(me, DH, & our 4 boys) will also be sailing Oct 14 for our very first cruise. Looking forward to any first timer tips you guys might have.

:wave2:

Welcome drknight! Just jump right in and join the fun! I can't even think of any tips off the top of my head, but when I do, I'll let you know! What are the ages of your children? Our boys are 11 and 9 and always looking for kids to hang with it! See you soon!!!

Hope that all have a great day. Mike

Welcome Drknight! You've picked a great bunch of people to cruise with. Please tell us a little more about yourself.....I look forward to meeting all of you.

I have all boys that are 10, 8, and twins that just turned 5 on Monday. I just booked this cruise a few weeks ago, but I had been eyeing it for about a year...my guys have a Fall Break for the first time this year, so it was a perfect fit. We all are excited about this cruise, but no one as much as me. I'm a Disney nut...DH is not, but I'm working on him. None of us have cruised before so I'm a little nervous about that.

So, do your kids like the stuff in the clubs?

I'm hoping to snokel and parasail, but I haven't decided if we plan to be much more than beach bums this trip.

Drknight: I can't really answer any of the kids' club questions since my own kids were much older when they first sailed, but your family situation reminds me of my own: I also had 4 kids in 5 years (no twins, though) so I can truly empathize. Today my "babies" are 26,24,22 and the youngest turns 21 next month. I do know that the ship offers a ton of activities for the young ones and I've never seen a kid who didn't enjoy a Disney cruise.

Welcome drknight!

Our kids are older so can't help you with the kids club.

Fiona

Drknight and family -- Welcome aboard! For first timer tips, I suggest getting a copy of the Passporter guide to DCL. It is available on the net and also at book stores, I guess. It will tell everything you want to know and more. Also, on the main DIS cruise board (not the meets board), there are a number of posts at the beginning of the board that will give you valuable information. Our kids are grown now, but we took our 6 year old grandson on a cruise last year, and he loved the Oceaneer's Club. Four boys -- WOW!

Jean

Welcome drknight and family

My children were also late teens when we cruised so no advise regarding kids clubs. You would have to knock my children out and drag them onboard to go on a disney cruise now.

You are cruising with a great group of people.

Nancy

Thanks! I already have the Passporter guide to DCL and read some of it almost every day. I also spend way too much time reading other threads for cruise tips. DH told me he was calling internet anonymous.

I do have one question that I can't seem to get answered. I've seen other people talking about taking coolers onboard with them. Passporter and Disney say that coolers aren't allowed except for medication. Do any of you guys take coolers with you? Have you ever had any trouble?

We have never felt the need for a cooler since, unlike other cruise lines, you can get soft drinks, coffee, tea and water free 24/7 at the beverage self-service station on 9. Soft drinks are also free with meals, but you have to pay if you order them from room service or any of the bars. We usually bring a few water bottles each in our carry-on luggage and then fill them up at the beverage station. Sometimes we bring a 4-pack of those small wine bottles since that way you don't have to open a whole bottle if only one of us wants a drink. We try to travel light, so I don't really want to lug a cooler in addition to our other stuff. I know alot of people do bring coolers however. My impression is that DCL frowns on it and tries to disourage people from the practice, but if you do it, they won't say anything. Kinda like the dress code.....they always request that people refrain from shorts and flip-flops in the dining rooms at dinner but you always have some people that look like utter slobs. And of course, the servers are nice enough to pretend not to notice.

Hi everyone.......its been awhile since I have posted. Just got back from Cancun last Sunday ....... it was hot, hot, hot and beautiful!

I finally got to ride a horse out to the ocean and bareback in the ocean, snorkle off a catarmaran spelling??? (both first times for me) and we visited the Tulum Ruins. It all was so terrific it was hard to believe I was really there.

This week was filled with little league games, red hat dinner, and having a new furnace installed. Hopefully, the coming week will settle down and I'll be able to chat more.
