Welcome, Wendy and Mum :wave2:
Unfortunately I won't be able to do an update tonight as we're going to the Hockenheimring Formula One racetrack tonight to do some inline-skating - That is if the weather is OK. There may be some rain later this afternoon and in that case we would have to cancel that.
I'm especially delighted that the European faction of our group is getting bigger. On COB I we were two, on COB II we were four, on COB III we were four (Although we didn't discover the other Germs before Sunday ;) ), and on COB IV we already are eight.

Welcome Wendy and Mum. You'll have a great time with us.

Off to work today. It's supposed to be really hot again this week with the humidex reaching 40. It's already reached 30 this morning.

Fiona

AAAARGH,
it rains and it is cold, so there won't be any skating tonight. I asked Wendy to submit some more info and as soon as I have it I'll do an update.

Welcome Wendy and Mom

You will have a great time with this group. I think this is my 4th cruise with some of the group. However, each time we not only renew old friendships but also make many new friends.

Gosh Eric what physical activity do you not do? Other than you don't like spinning you seem to do everything else. I used to do inline skating, but I'm afraid I will fall and break a hip now.

I just read an article about Johnny Depp. Apparently his years of smoking are catching up to him. He was getting too short of breath while doing the stunts for the sequals to Pirates of the Caribbean, that they are now using Stunt men for him.

Fionna did you get all your yard work done?

Nancy

I will definitley need to start doing more exercise to keep up with everybody! Also so I can eat all the wonderful food and still fit into my clothes.
Brad Pitt was supposed to be on the Make a Wish fundraiser they had on the Magic July 16th (they raised $2million!) but he was still recovering from his hospital visit. Arnie couldn't make it either - some conference call or other! I will still keep wishing for Depp.
Wendy

Folks,
List #16 is in your mailboxes - Check it out.
I did something I announced some months ago: The mail accompanying The List comes in English and in German. As some of you speak (or used to speak) German this may be a good way to train your skills. And the more of us speak German, the more fun it will be to point fingers at our monolingual cruisers, say something in German, and start to giggle :rotfl2:

Eric, Thanks for the updated list. Sorry you didn't get to go skating. :umbrella: Maybe you could add the Scottish Flag at the top?

Well, It is offical, my doc is moving her practice from town to Panama City Beach. She closes on the building on Sept. 6th. I am so excited! We will probably use the long Labor Day weekend to move in our charts and supplies. This will mean it will take me about 3 minutes to get to work. :moped: And I will be around the corner from my son's elementary school. The office is large, only 2 years old and comes with everything we need. (Exam tables, lab equipment, phones, computer system, EKG machine, as so on.) I'm going to be like a kid in a candy store! :mickeybar

Hope everyone is having a good week.
Later, Avé

How about flags from all the countries represented with perhaps the state flags from the USA? Although of course I think Scotland is the best don't want the rest to feel inferior!
Well I am up to p43 and already am wandering what we have let ourselves in for! Nah cannot wait to meet you all in person. Little school work is going to get done at this rate.
Papa we don't have USA cellphones yet but after the incident with the flat tyre on the rental this year we will have before next year - I will email you the number as soon as we get it. Also I know my mum Doreen is wanting to do parasailing again - she and Jeanneg were supposed to do it but a hurricane got in the way!
Wendy

Folks,
the Scottish flag is at the top: The Union Jack is a combination of the English, the Scottish, and the flag of North Ireland !!!!
If we start showing flags for the single states it would make the header of The List bigger than The List itself ;)
And BTW: the flags on The List change positions with each revision.
But talking about flags:
What about everyone bringing a flag of his/her state or country and then do a flag-exchange during the Sail-Away-Party?

Congrats on the new office, Ave.
This coems in handy: You can use your lunch-breaks to scout out motels for us. Anja doesn't want to go the one we stayed at last time, because their pool sucked. I guess we'll start looking into PCB motels after Xmas.

Oh now, that is just MEAN!!! ;)

Fiona & Jim,
you hometown dominated all newscasts over here. The cabin crew of that AirFrance-aircraft did a tremendous job in getting everybody out in time!!

Just in time for our US-vacation the Euro started to win against the Dollar, now we're hoping that this trend continues ;)

We arrived home 4 a.m. Tuesday morning after a fantastic vacation. We cut the vacation a little short due to the last campground (in Virginia) being a real dump. Gotta do my researches a little bit better next time. After four hours there, rest and dinner, we decided to head out at 8 p.m. on Monday and Rich drove through the night back home. We did fine until the GW Bridge. Why is there always traffic at the GW Bridge?!!

Rested, unpacked, relaxed, caught up with mail and such on Tuesday and I returned to work today, Wednesday, with the understanding that it is a tradeoff for tomorrow -- so I have a four-day weekend to look forward to! Rich returns to work on Monday.

Many thanks to Ave, Mark, Mary and Casey, Mary, George, Regina and George and to Mike and Kathy (Happy Birthday Kathy!!) for helping to make this vacation one we will always remember, filled with adventure, fun, and friends.

I am so happy Cathy posted that Art is doing well. Thought of you both often during our time away and you will remain in our prayers.

Welcome to so many new people. This is going to be a wonderful cruise. Getting to know fellow cruisers ahead of time through this wonderful web site and then meeting in person, even if only briefly during the cruise, really added so much for us during our cruising experience. Please, please, don't be intimated by our familiarity with one another or of our quantity, just post your thoughts about cruising, your day, or just a morning greeting. This is the way we get to "know" one another. Yes, MooCow - I am directing this mostly at you! I am intimated by the size of our group too and it bothers me when people think we are a bit of a clique and talk of things that have nothing to do with the cruise. But, I try to put that aside and post SOMEthing every now and then because that is the only way I will get known by my fellow cruisers. So please, post, we want to know you.

Still have things to catch up with and to do but wanted to take some time to let you know we are back safe and sound and relaxed and refreshed.

The newspapers have quite an extensive coverage of the crash. Apparently the First Officer was landing the plane rather than the guy In Charge. There are a number of reports of passengers hiring lawyers to sue Air France. I'm betting that a lot of them had 'priceless family heirlooms' in their luggage and want to be compensated for it, especially because the whole plane (and all of the luggage/cargo) is a complete write-off.

Right around the time the plane was landing, however, a band of really severe thunderstorms was moving through the area so that may have had something to do with it also. I was occupied in my normal afternoon activity and was rudely woken up by The Dog (who is terrified of thunder) sitting about three inches from my face panting and drooling all over the place. I wasn't overly impressed by that, especially the doggie breath.

The Really Big News is that there will be a hockey season this year, and the local favourites (the Toronto Maple Leafs) are still touted to be a contender this year. The Club actually *reduced* ticket prices by 5% to try to recapture what they feel is a lost fan base over the cancelled season last year. This is actually quite funny because good ticket prices went from $185/seat to $176/seat... that is assuming that you can at least get the tickets at the box office. Most of the games in the past have been sell outs, and when they aren't, then there's like two full pages in the newspaper with columns and pictures trying to explain why there were empty seats. The fans here are (or were, before the lock-out) so Leaf-orientated that if the club put uniforms on six chimpanzees and gave them hockey sticks, most of the fans would believe that they had a real chance at making the playoffs. If they didn't, the prognosis would be changed to 'building for the future'. All of this with in-depth colour coverage on the tube and special sports editions in the Saturday paper.

Which sort of reminds me of a guy that I used to work with some time ago. His name was Bob Sloane and he was such a hockey fanatic that he must have had the Leafs logo tatooed on his, well, tatooed anyways, but nobody could really prove it. He was also a compulsive gambler (I think) and would bet on anything. He was a pretty good programmer so mostly his little escapades were sorta over looked by the management.

He also owned this butt-ugly pet that he called Teddy. I think it was one of those hairless cats or dogs that you hear about every so often. I never liked the thing and it made my skin crawl. It like sorta just laid there and eyeballed you. You know, it was eyeballing like you had "Next Meal" on your forehead. A couple of the programmers, however, weren't as spooked about Teddy as I was and there was the usual cutting comments about Teddy, most of which Bob ignored. The problem was that the more the comments were ignored, the more cutting the comments became if you know what I'm talking about.

Well, one day Bob must have reached his limit because I recall this 'loud conversation' in a cube a couple of rows over and a couple of rows back. It was so funny because I stood up to see what was going on and pretty well all you could see was heads (or jumping jack heads for the shorter members of the staff). Sort of like a bunch of prairie dogs popping out of their holes to see what's happening.

Turns out Bob challenged The Biggest Mouth of them all to some sort of a race between Teddy and The Mouth's dog (I'm hazy on the name now, but I'm morally certain it was 'Butch' or something like that, but 'Butch' is good for now) AND he offered a fairly substantial bet to 'make things interesting'. He also offered to cover any other bets that the staff may have. I was about the only one that didn't put down any money (because Teddy gave me the willies) so I got to be The Custodian of the cash.

The race was set for the Friday at the end of the week, after hours, and the venue was the basement parking garage. I was to appear with the cash (about two inches of cash in small bills) in a brown kraft envelope and present it to the winner.

Must have been sixty or seventy of us there. The Mouth had his dog. Bob had Teddy. A couple of lines were drawn at either end of the garage. The finish line had two bowls of food. One bowl was for 'Butch', and vaguely looked like ground meat. The other bowl was for Teddy, and certainly looked like sugar.

Basically, the winner was the first one that got to their respective bowls. Butch and Teddy were lined up and the starting whistle sounded. 'Butch' sort of took off towards the bowls, but Teddy just sort of stayed there eyeballing everything.

'Butch' kept moving toward his bowl at a fairly good pace. Teddy just sort of laid there.

I heard Bob say "Sugar, Teddy. Sugar". Teddy just sort of laid there and eyeballed him.

By this time, 'Butch' is almost to his bowl.

Bob leaned over real close to Teddy and said something that not a lot of us heard.

The next thing you know, Teddy is at the other end of the garage sitting on his bowl of sugar. 'Butch' came in a close second. Ya, I know... don't ask me how but if Bob could package whatever he said to Teddy, he'd be a millionaire. I'm still sort of hazy on how Teddy got down to the finish line before 'Butch' (and a lot of the other guys were also), but there Teddy was, and Teddy was declared The Winner.

I turned over the envelope to Bob, and mentioned to him that I thought that 'Butch' as a sure thing and I was convinced that all of the bets were basically sucker bets and he (Bob) was gonna loose his shirt.

"Nah", he says. "It was a sure thing."

"How so?" I says.

"Well, there's an old saying: Sloane's Teddy wins the race".

Jim.
:)

OK Jim,
after thinking twice about it, I got it: Slow and steady always wins!!
This is what I love the English language for, toying around with words like this unfortuantely doesn't work very well in German.

We are back from the hills! We had a nice time! Although, we found out that the house did not have A/C, we did okay without it! It got warm during the day, but cooled off at night so sleeping was okay. All the photos are on the laptop, so if I remember, I'll send a new one along later!

Glad to hear that Art is home!

Happy Birthday to Kathy!

Welcome to Wendy and Mum!

Welcome home to the Tuli's!

Ave...every job I have had has been in my "backyard". I have always loved coming home for lunch or being able to run errands. Now my job IS my home. Someone has to keep these monsters in line!

Tuesday we will drive over to Lexington, KY to pick up our puppy, Daisy. I think I am ready for her arrival! I bought the last of the supplies..food and treats...today, so now we just need her!

That's about it from here...it's just been SO HOT! My car read 102 as I left Walmart this afternoon. It was still at 100 as I got home....30 mins later. I am READY FOR FALL!!!

Wow - just finished reading this thread! Maybe now I will get my unpacking etc finished!
We are staying on Deck 7 and always consider Deck 7 aft our private spot - guess it won't be this time! Like Viking I think of the room only as somehwere to shower and sleep (and there is no way I could afford the rest of the vacation if I had a veranda!) so we often make use of the secret veranda although this time the kids club used it for storytime.
Jeanne - so glad you got to Victoria and Alberts. That was my big treat to myself this trip. We loved it although it was only I that did the wine pairings - Mum was driving, but as she only really likes white zinfadel she wouldn't have enjoyed it. I don't know how we made it back to the villa - I blame the dessert wine! I didn't think the price too bad but we did get 20% off because I have the Disney Dining Experience card - the chocolate card I got at the end is still in our fridge and the roses lasted a whole week. However we did almost lose it when we were escorted to the toilets and back - my charming younger brother said it was to make sure we didn't do a runner!
We will fly in the week before the cruise and spend the week at WDW (either onsite or at my timeshare) and the night before at Cocoa Beach - cannot wait to meet you all.
Wendy

Welcome back Michele and Rosemary.

Shame on you Michele wishing for fall. I love summer. Fall means the leaves are falling all over our yard since we live in the woods and winter will be here soon.

Wendy--- Glad to see that the Disney Dining Club card works at V & A, we are looking at doing that for our 35th anniversary next year. Congratulations on reading all the pages of this thread.

Off to watch Amazing Race 3 starts tonight.

MaryJo--- Did you like the finish of AR 2?

Nancy

It works for the main dining room but not for the Chef's table. It was wonderful to get free valet service at the resorts too. We always use it anyway to cut down on Mum's walking but it was nice to get it free apart from the tip of course!

Wow! I'm impressed--I don't think I've read all the pages of this thread!

Hey veterans--Wendy just e-mailed me her guess for the number of posts on this thread. That brings us up to 6 guesses!

Welcome, Wendy, Robin & families.
Happy birthday, Kathy w/a K.
Art & Cathy--I'm so glad you're doing well. Welcome home.
Mike, I love your bi-lingual skills.
Avé, enjoy your new commute!

OMG, Jim. I laughed right off my chair. I just love your stories. And I'm sure they're all true--every word!

Nothing new here. The kids are getting settled into their school routines. Heidi's on the softball team (of course!), David's running for Student Council. And they're both auditioning for the musical tomorrow. The show is called "Honk!" I guess it's an Ugly Duckling story--I've never heard of it. (Any of you New Yorkers see it on Broadway?) Heidi's hoping for the lead, "Ugly", and David's satisfied with being one of the "Ducklings".

They're both going to keep me busy chauffeuring. With that & work being so busy, I don't have time for much else. But it's a good busy.

Have a great rest of the week & weekend, everyone.

Love, Marianne
