1 stop, plane change with checked in luggage

We have to change planes with a 42 minute layover with Delta in Detroit from an A320 to a DC9/50 to Boston.
Will they put our luggage on the same plane we change to in Detroit?
From your experience, what happened to your luggage with a change of planes, short layover or long layover?

Yes. 42 minutes will be plenty of time for the airline to transfer your luggage.

I have never, to this day, had a bag not make a connection that I did. In fact once my bag made a connection that I couldn't and it was going around and around and around in EWR, shortest wait for a bag I ever had.

However, sometimes bags will miss connections just like people, but the vast majority do make the same connections that you do, otherwise there would be a major backlash to the airlines.

Ah, heck, anything can happen. An airline once had four hours to get my bag off the luggage cart for my original flight (done) and an additional 2.5 hours to get it onto the correct flight (oops!). I flew non-stop almost all the way across the country that same day. My luggage went the EXTREME scenic route, with two plane changes... and can you believe, the airline wouldn't give me mileage credit for it?????????
