I usually buy 1 or 2% and skim. I prefer cooking with 2% because recipes that all for milk usually come out better with the "fattier" milk. I also use it to make chocolate milk, since the kids aren't too hip on chocolate "water" (with skim).

I grew up on whole milk, but discovered skim as a college student, and I switched to it because I actually like it better. It tastes refreshing to me.

A glass of skim milk every morning with breakfast.

Dislike milk with a passion! Yuck. A splash of half and half in my coffee is the extent of my liquid dairy intake. Cheese on the other hand......that's another story. :rolleyes1

I find it interesting that skim milk is the most popluar and whole milk is the least.

I've been drinking 2% for years now.

Anything else would be uncivilized. :rotfl:

We drink skim. When I moved out on my own, ex and I started drinking 2%, eventually started drinking 1%. Many years later, when Ed and I started living together, we talked about it and both switched to skim.

My boys are used to skim. This past week, the supermarket was out of skim, so I bought 1%. One of the boys told me the milk tasted weird! :lmao:

I said yuck. I buy skim to cook with, but I don't drink any of the stuff. I only like my milk made into ice cream or yogurt or maybe a little on cereal.

The only difference between whole milk, 1%, 2%, and skim is the fat content. Skim has just as much calcium and protein as whole, in fact, it has a teeny bit more, because when you remove the fat, you have more room for the good stuff.

Now, kids do need fat for brain development, so I'm not saying skim is necessarily better for them, but it doesn't have less calcium.

Don't forget the vitamin D! Many people think that vitamin D is only in whole milk because it's labeled vitamin D whole milk. Good news...vitamin D is added to all percents so get the one you like. If you like whole cut back on fat somewhere else....or if you would rather have double stuffed oreos you better get some skim.:rotfl2:

I buy skim milk for myself and the kids.

DH refuses to drink that, so I buy 2% for him, and I use it to cook with.

My Mom cannot belive that I drink skim milk now because when she switched the family from whole to 2% I did not drink milk for months. :rotfl:

ICK! I don't drink milk. For a bunch of reasons. But to have a cereal every couple of weeks, I will buy either fat free lactose free milk or vanilla soy milk. It's been close to 12 years since I had a glass of milk.
