1 or 2 staterooms??

We are planning a cruise 4-night cruise!! My husband, me, and our two daughters, who will be ages 15 and 24. Is one family stateroom large enough or should we plan on two staterooms? I really want a room with a veranda, but if we get two rooms, I'm not sure I want to pay for two verandas! Someone mentioned that I might be able to book a veranda room and an inside room close by. Has anyone done this?

I'm thinking we'll be ok with one room. If were were doing more than four nights, my decision might be different.

I'd check the prices on all variables and go from there. For a 4 night cruise, I'd book 4 of us in one room, if the prices work out that way.

With only 4 night, we would choose a deluxe family veranda room. It is sufficient and saves you the money from a second room.

for 4 nights I'd go with one verandah room. If you book a verandah and an inside, you will pay full fare for 4 people (although the inside would still be less) rather than full fare for 2 and lower fare for guests #3 and #4.

I have stayed in a Category 4 (Deluxe Family Veranda) stateroom on the Magic with my husband and our kids ages 16 and 20, and it worked fine for us. We didn't have all 4 of us in the room much except for late night, early morning, and getting ready for dinner, so we didn't feel the need for additional space.

On the Magic and Wonder, all of the Category 4 rooms sleep 5, so they have a sofa bed, a ceiling pull-down bed, and a wall pull-down bed. My daughter slept in the ceiling bed and my son on the wall bed, which left room on the sofa for shorter people (like me) to sit and watch TV even if the ceiling bed was down.

On the Dream and Fantasy, some Category 4 rooms lack either the ceiling bed or the wall bed. If you're on one of those ships and want to make sure your room has both, you can look for rooms that sleep 5.

If you all end up in one room, remember that adults can use the locker rooms in the spa for showering and stuff. That can be a lifesaver.

I would ask the 24 yo how they feel about a couch-conversion bed. If they're jiggy with it then I'd just do a standard 4 person verandah.

Just pointing out it's a standard bed (twin size). Not your typical sofa, fold-out bed.

I would do two rooms. I expect your adult/teen daughters would enjoy a little more space and a little more freedom from mom and dad: so they can come back to the room at night later if they want to stay out with other young people (and sleep in in the morning if you are early rises), their own bathroom with room for toiletries for everyone and no having to wait for the shower, own tv to watch Disney movies on if they want to.

I don't think a verandah for the second room is necessary. It is nice, but they will have a great time without one, and the cost savings will likely be substantial.

I'm usually so tired, I could sleep on a stone slab, not that I don't appreciate the nice bed. But for $$$ I'd try for the savings. Especially for adults and teens, you're not going to spend that much time in the cabin. (OTOH we live in 1k Sq ft house.)

Our DS's are now 22 and 19 and we have always managed in 1 room. The 22 yo is just about 6 feet and he does fine on the pull down /sofa bed.

Even if you end up with a cat 4 without the murphy, having the little bit of extra room (maybe 3.5 to 4 extra feet) will be nice, since your kids are not little.

We have sons aged 23 and 20. We go with 2 cabins so everyone can have their own space and some privacy. I would hate to have to share 1 shower with 4 people and I don’t want to lug my belongings around to shower in a locker room.

We get 2 verandah cat 4 E cabins and open up the verandah divider. The huge verandah is wonderful.

If you’re doing one room I might suggest a deluxe family oceanview rather than veranda. I believe the room itself will have more square footage and you can always go on deck if you want to watch the ocean go by with the breeze in your hair.

I'd do two staterooms - one verandah one inside. When I sailed with my parents we booked two staterooms, one would have been too small even though it was just myself and my son in one of them. It would have seriously hindered the enjoyment to be crammed into one.

Family of 4 here, kids are 13 and 16 and we did two inside rooms last time. Sure it's a bit more, but it makes a better vacation experience for us. My kids are also boy/girl so that makes a difference too. The girls actually stay together (mother/daughter) and the guys stay together. My daughter and I had the best time being roomies and ordering room service at night, our alone time together is actually one of the more memorable parts of the trip for me. My daughter loved it!

Our next cruise is booked and we did a verandah and inside room this time.

Well I'm cheap so I would stay in 1 room! But age 24 I was married and living on my own and my parents definitely wouldn't have paid for me to go on a cruise with them so my opinion is biased! Lol!
