1 Month Old....Am I Crazy????

I took my daughter to Disney at 12 weeks old, but having said that, I would postpone your trip. When we went (trip was also planned before baby) it was mid-May and Madison was just about 3 months old (born 2/26/04). Some friends of ours went down at the end of March and invited us along, but we declined because we felt she was too young. We also took her to Disney in early December when she was 9 months, and I really felt the weather was too bad for a newborn to be out. It was sorta warm some days (70s), but on 12/4 it was freezing for a baby. We all had jackets on and I also had a blanket wrapped around my daughter cause the jacket wasn't enough. And this was during the day-at night it was worse. And with a newborn you'd need to be even more careful with the weather and their temps.

Oh, and my daughter was exclusively breastfed for 6 months (and still breastfeeding now at almost 13 months) and she got sick plenty of times so don't think the breastmilk makes you immune from germs. At 1 month she got pinkeye (don't know how), 3 months a cold (while in Disney actually), 9 months she got 1 bad cold after another right after we got home from our Disney trip, leading to an ear infection at 10 months, then another cold at 11 months. My nephew had RSV when he was 4 months and was hospitalized for 5 days, and when my daughter's colds just wouldn't let up I really got scared that she had RSV too.

Also, Madison was due 3/12 so she could have easily had been born on 3/26 instead of 2/26. If that happens with your 3rd, you could be taking a 2 week old.

when my now 17month old was 6 weeks...we drove 6 hours to new orleans...visited them for a week over thanksgiving with TONS of relatives who had little kids...then we flew to orlando on SW....just get your baby a seat bc at that age they will sleep the whole time (if you are flying).

no one with touch your baby if you don't let them. we stayed at akl for 8 days.

....and as for the comment about normal recovery being 6 weeks....hogwash. i left the hospital after 12 hours (only bc i gave birth a night) and brought my kids to school the next day with the baby. she was/is healthy & great.

you may have to have early nights or take it easy & let your husband deal with the other kids...but you can baby swap & have alot of fun with the others. it will make them feel appreciated and not forgotten with the new baby.

Wow! You go girl! (Ok so I can't pull that off, but I tried...LOL!)

Honestly all people heal differently. There was no way I was up to walking around Disney World a month after I had DS. I couldn't move for a good week. Oh sure I did walk around, but I was in a lot of pain. I am very happy & lucky my DH's company gave him 6 weeks paternity leave. I dont know what I would have done without him.

But not only was I not up to walking around Disney World, I did not want to either. I was (as a lot of parents of a 1 month old are) completely exhausted. I was uncomfortable, not feeling good, and feeling pretty crappy.

Now at 3 or 4 months after DS was born I could have done Disney World no problem. But I am still glad we waited until he was 9 months old.

Don't forget each person, delivery & recovery is different. I would not plan a trip that close after a baby is born. You just never know what can happen.

And I would not want to expose my 1 month old to a plane/park full of people during cold, flu & RSV season.

We were planning on going to our virst MVMCP this December and low and behold my DW went and got pregnant. :rolleyes1

Who does she think she is? :snooty:
Congrats to you and your family. :sunny:

I would have to disagree with most of the other posts. We headed to texas 4 weeks after our dd was born. We did conult a doctor first to make sure it was ok. We asked about the cabin pressure on the ears, colds with the closed envirionement Etc. I aplaud you for checking into it but I would consult your doctor. There may be things you can do to avoid any problems and still have a vacation.

I was so paronoid with our first DS that I asked the doctor if I should wear a mask when I held him just in case I had a cold that I did not know about. The doctor looked at me like I was nuts :confused3

Good luck :earsboy:

Congrats...

First, your wife know her own body. If it were me...I'd do it in a second..with my 4th I was back at work within 5 days...she came with me so it wasn't a deal of me leaving her at home...I would have been thrilled to head to WDW....but your wife will have some idea how she feels....

First of all, Congratulations on the impending baby! :wizard:
IMHO, I would reschedule the trip. I know everyone recovers differently. It can be different form one baby to the next. I had c-sections and recovery time and pain issues were different each time. Sure, you could go, but I think dw would be in a major fog and the whole trip would be hazy. It's just such an emotional time.

I supposed (if you don't book a pkg.) you could keep the trip in place and decide almost last minute... assuming you can get the time off work (I presume she'll have the time off, if she works). You can cancel within five days I believe for room only and you'd just be saving your tix for later in the year. Many airlines would let you transfer tix to another date too.

I would say, even if you could push it to when the baby is 3-4 months old... would be ideal... baby would be able to sleep for longer periods of time and still be quite "tote-able" as a previous poster put it.
