We can go to OKW for either 5 nights in a 1 bedroom, having to add 2 more nights at a mod OR stay the full 7 nights in a studio. They are basically the same in points, but if we do the first option we'll have to add money into the vacation budget. What would you do?

We have yet to stay in anything other than a studio so we aren't spoiled yet, don't know any better ;)

save some money and go stay over at Pop Cent - this is a very cute resort - true it is not as nice as POR - but it does have style - get a room in the 50 or 70 - don't do the preferred 60's

Question: Does the stay have to be a full week? Why not take the 1BR for 5 nights w/out the extra hotel nights?

... Or, you could always rent some points from another DVC member for the 2 nights, which may be cheaper than the other resort (depending on the points needed and time of year). Or you could borrow points from next year as an option (last choice in my opinion).

We just did this and agreed we'd only do mods from now on. It was cute, but loud and didn't have a darn slide for my DD. She OBSESSES over the slides... UGH!

Well, we currently have an AP and I know that if we do a shorter stay we'll end up wanting to add nights once we get down there. I just know us! It works best for DH to take off Sunday to Sunday so we'd have those extra nights just starting at us! :p

Ya, I thought about this. It would still be way cheaper to go with a mod even at peak rack rates. Don't want to borrow as I'm gonna have to borrow anyway to complete a trip to VB later that summer.

With an AP in hand, wouldn't the poly or AKL be only about 30 bucks a night more than for a moderate? How bout Y & B clubs for SAB?
You didn't say when you were going, I'd suggest you make a ressie at a mod, then cancel and rebook when the AP rates are released..

We have only stayed at POR and CSR in the past, really liked the POR. Couldn't find the dang room at CSR.. way too spread out for us, didn't even bother looking over the main pool, just too far away. Stayed a couple of nights at ASM, nope... never again.

You know, once you go into a 1 BR from a studio, you're ruined.

While I'm crazy about OKW, the OKW studios have a more "hotellish" feel than the other resort's studios. Something about having a sofa - even if you have to make it into a bed in the evenings - makes it a little more homey, imho.

We've stayed at 3 onsite DVC properties, with 2 more to go. It's all good. DD said, "if they had a OKW room with a BWV location, that'd be ideal." Oh, well. Can't please everyone.

I voted for the longer studio stay. I'm with you...if I stay in a 1-bdrm, I'll be spoiled forever. I'm really bad...I stay at a studio and still stay elsewhere for the first two nights.

The full value of OKW is realized in a one-bedroom or larger. If you want to really get a feel for the resort, I'd go with the one-bedroom.

Of course, a studio is still great and is an economical option but you don't get the full balcony and often have "odd" views because most of the studios are located on the corners of the buildings. If you expect to be spending time at the resort, I'd go with the one-bedroom.

I might just add that when we put together our Grand Gathering, our guests were sort of bewildered about the whole "villa" thing. Their feeling was, "We won't be in the room much, so what difference does it make?"

Funny thing. With the sprawl of a 1 or 2 BR, it's a lot easier - and more inviting - to spend some time "at home."

I went with the studio "just" because of not having to move. I know some folks like to split there vacation time between 2 resorts but because I go to Disney at least once a year sometimes more, I get the chance to stay in all of the resorts I love. The last thing I want to do is pack 3 times ... plus it's always nice to have a little extra spending money on vacation.

Good Luck!

Not trying to be negative here but, there isn't a slide at OKW yet either.

But with APs in hand, you may want to check mousesavers.com for AP rates on resorts and go for the 1 BR.

HAHAHA. You'll be doing an add on while you're there if you do though:D .

We should get commisions from DVC for getting people to stay at a 1BR for the first time, it's almost a surefire addon clincher..... Maybe a few extra points for one year for each one:D .

This may just be me, but the real value in DVC is the larger units (1, 2 and 3 bedrooms).

So a one bedroom with a stay in a moderate (and the moderates at WDW are quite nice (my favorite is Port Orleans (French Quarter as it is now known) gets my vote out of the selections available.

I'd go with the 1 Br, we're doing that at OKW this December because of the extra room it has compared to a Studio. We stayed at BWV last Dec in a studio, and while we all liked it ( me, DH, DD-5 and DS-2), my DH said " Next time, no more studios".

OK by me, that was our 1st stay as members, and already we're spoiled without having stayed in a 1BR or larger yet.:teeth:

Now we just need to save some money for an add-on.

I would do the 1 bedroom for the 5 nights, and find some discounts for the other 2 nights in the 1 bedroom also.

How about a 1BR on points and then cash with a member discount on the extra nights? At least you (hopefully) wouldn't have to move! :)

Hi,

I agree with this poster! Why not give it try??

This is just my opinion of course, but I did not care for the OKW studio. I will only stay in a one bedroom there when I return.

I would definately stay 5 nights in a one bedroom. The one bedrooms are sooo nice!!
