HI,

FIRST trip to HHI!!!
I seem to know Disney like the back of my hand, but no NOTHING about Disney's Hilton Head.....HELP!!!
We are staying in a one bedroom unit....can anyone give me a hint where to request my unit? We would like to stay near the main pool...we really enjoy the Disney pools, and spend most of our time at the pool...
Then.....if you can...PLEASE throw me a couple of hints on what to do at Disney's resort, or on the island.....We will be doing mostly casual dining because of the kids......
ANY thing will help....I really feel lost on this trip.....I know what to do in Florida, but LOST and nervous about Hilton Head...
We will be driving down from Mid-Michigan area..I'm guessing about a 17 hour drive?
THANKS in advance!!!

Tommy Towery has a <a href="http://ttowery.tripod.com/">great HH site.</a>

Here is some <a href="http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=226883">info about the resort.</a>

There are only 21 1BR villas and 16 of them are in buildings 11 and 12 which make up the lodge area. The other 5 are beneath the GV's in the other buildings.

If you have any specific questions, please post away. There are lots of great activities for all ages and the beach is GREAT!

Enjoy!

We love Captain's Seafood which is reasonably priced and great seafood. Close to the resort. My daughters and I were there last weekend and called in our order. There were long lines, but my dd said she went right in and picked up the order. They told us to wait 20 minutes for them to fix it. It was wonderful not to have to go out and wait. We had been shopping in the outlets and were so tired. My dd left on Sunday and my DH and ds arrived. We ordered pizza from Giuseppis and it was very good and hot. The breakfast sandwiches at Tide Me Over at the resort are wonderful and my dd and I split one. Wild Wings is also good and fun. Last summer we had a blast at the Japanese restaurant. Don't forget that they have refillable mugs just like WDW resorts. They are worth it. The CMs are wonderful with the kids. So friendly and fun. My children are 6 and 10 and love the unbirthday parties. The campfire is also a lot of fun. One day we are going to do the dolphin cruise. My mom has two houses on the front beach of another SC beach and we see them all the time out front. I would like my kids to have a closer encounter. There are so many activities at the resort that I don't think your kids will be bored. One of the CMs said that they have more activities for the kids since there are no parks there. Let your kids do crabbing off the dock. Request the one bedroom in Building 18 for the best view of the river. It is also the closiest to the pool. You may be under a Grande Villa, though and I am not certain about the noise. I was in 16 last weekend in a studio and had no complaints of noise. I had more noise last year in a studio in Building 11. I have learned over the years to always pack ear plugs so I am always prepared. Buildings 11 and 12 are or near the Live Oak Lodge and have other one bedrooms. I would request a water view and top floor if I was in one of these. Email me and I will try send some other info to you. We live 85 miles from HH and are frequent visitors.
Have a great time.
Becky

We love HHI and so will you. We have stayed 4 times in the main lodge which is convenient to everything and you have covered parking under the lodge; building 13 1x and it is quiet and behind the lodge; 1x in building 31 which is wonderful looks out onto entrance to Shelter Cove marina and we saw dolphins every morning from our porch(this was July). The previous post is great and there is alot of tourist info once you get there. DVC has a bunch of restaurants that you get discounts for(love Scott's Fishmarket right at Shelter Cove and Old Oyster Factory). You will have a wonderful time!

Becky, I lost your email.....
ONCE again.....thanks for helping me w/ my points!!!
I would not of been able to go if it wasn't for your help....
THANKS....I will email you when I get back.......
Thanks...:p

We love HH. My DS8 kind of prefers it to WDW....although he's learning to appreciate that the two are very different and we can do both. We don't have to have a favorite.

I didn't see anything mentioned about bike rental. We've enjoyed this the past couple of years. We've rented bikes right from Disney. We enjoy riding back and forth from the resort to the beach.

One of our favorite dining places is the Salty Dog Cafe. We find it's easier to cook in our villa most nights. With the kids it seems easier than getting ready to go out for dinner. I'm sure one of these days it will change.;)

Have a great trip!:sunny:

One other thing, we have made the drive from the Chicagoland area the past two summers and will be doing it again soon. We leave home very early in the AM and plan to stop off in Asheville for the night. Last year we didn't make it as far as we would have liked because of thunderstorms, but we still spent most of the second day in HH. The kids pass the time with a tv/vcr we have in the van. Makes travel for them much easier. The trip for us is about 16 hours.

We will be there with you!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

We kind of felt the same way on our frist trip. We actually had plans to go to Savanah and Charleston for day trips, but fell in love with the resort and never wanted to leave instead. We checked in, got the activity schedule and planned a few things for our stay. Then we simply relaxed, explored, and enjoyed it!! :)

My DSs (13 and 14) continually ask us if we can JUST do things around the resort.

You will have a wonderful trip!

Karen

I'm wondering about the HHI Tuesday night fireworks-

Can they be viewed from the resort or do you have to go to the community park?

Also has anyone gone to the community park for the Tuesday night concerts? How far from the resort?

Is Shelter Cove the shopping area within easy walking distance just across the bridge from the resort?

Non of the units are too far from the pool so unless you want to be right there, just see what they give you.

HHI is our DVC home. Our kids love all the activities. In addition to the pool they love to walk down the pier to the creek. It is really neat to see it at high tide and then again at low tide - amazing - and you can see all the little crabs scurrying away. We fished off the pier and crabbed. We threw everything back but we watched one guy catch 14 or 15 crabs for dinner in a couple of hours time. There is also shuffle board and a game room. There are hammocks hanging all around. And, someone mentioned the bicycles.

Over by the beach, there is another pool, the pool house and, of course, the beach - it is the most beautiful and nicest beach I have seen in the states. Very gentle slope - you can go out a long way and still be able to stand. We walk for hours, rent the water-bicycle things, etc.

HHI itself is very easy to get around - one main road swinging around the south side of the island (the old road). This is where most of the development/restaurants/shopping is. Another newer road angles in from northeast to southwest, but you want the old road. There are plenty of eating places for all budgets, all ages and all tastes.

Oh, I forgot - you can definitely watch the fireworks from the resort - they do close the pier (bummer) but anywhere along the creek side of the resort is great view. Shelter Cove is a very easy walk. We walked through it one day when it was overcast/rainy. It was nice but not great (but then, I'm not a tourist shopper and thought the prices were "touristy").

Walk across the entrance bridge to Shelter Cove in the evening. You didn't mention the ages of the kids, but during the summer, you can usually go see Shannon Tanner. He sings songs and plays instruments outside on the small stage in Shelter Cove. He is kind of like a one-man Wiggles. There are also DJ's and other singers at some of the other restaurants in Shelter Cove.

We also tend to cook a few more meals at HH since we don't always want to change and get cleaned up after a day at the pool and the beach. The balconies are huge with full size picnic tables in everything but a studio. We enjoy the second floor rooms because it feels more like being in a treehouse up among the birds in the large oak trees. You have to watch your food though. The birds can get pretty aggressive if you leave your plate unattended for a few seconds.

You have to go to Hilton Head Ice Cream. It is a few miles away, but it is the BEST ice cream I have ever had. I second the recommendation for Captain Seafood. The restaurant is not much to look at, but order it to go. The food is fabulous.

We were in a 1 BR on the top floor of the main lodge, #1137, and we loved the quiet and private balcony. DH hopes we get that same unit next time we go!

The kids are ages 17,13,7 ALL BOYS!!
That is why it's difficult....
The 17 yr. old has GIRLS on his mind...
The 13 yr. old has Game room, sports, and thinking and looking at girls...
The 7 yr. old just wants the pool, and to play...
We are going in three different directions all the time....
One wants to go swimming, and the other boys....somewhere else!
Oh well, I love it.....I enjoy them everyday ( well almost everyday)
Thanks to all that helped me on this site!!

The trip down should be fun!
We have a portable DVD player....Let the fights begin....The 17yr. old will want to watch a PG-13 movie, and the 7yr old a Disney movie...This should be fun, let the games begin!!!
:p

Beach House Beach House Beach House Beach House Beach House

Sounds like you will be spending a lot of time at the Beach House. Girls on the beach, and at the Beach House there is a pool with a basketball hoop, ping pong tables, a sitting room with a large screen TV and board games and there is even a small arcade... and there is a small bar so you can have a drink for the grown ups .

Something for everyone!:smooth:

Have a great time.
