1 bdrm not available for points - vent

I am not trying to get flamed but, I just called MS to try to book a 1bdrm for our upcoming trip 9/18-9/22 (currently in a studio) and they told me that they only have the first two nights available. Now when I go onto disney.com
1 Bdrms are available for the entire stay.

The CM said it had to do with 'inventory' but I cannot understand why they would let a room go vacant as opposed to let a DVC person in it!!! :confused3

Those room nights were almost surely sent to CRO to pay for some other DVC member's non-DVC choice (like a cruise or a stay at the Poly, for example). DVC can't make those "CRO rooms" available to members for points - they've already been used for a trade.

FWIW, sometimes at the very last minute (not always, though), MS can get some of those room nights back. (I think they actually arrange to send CRO something else, but I am not sure). It's not last minute yet - there's still time for someone to call and reserve that 1 bedroom for cash.

Try calling again (on a daily basis) right up to your departure date. Maybe you'll get lucky. But try not to be upset - if it didn't work this way, members could not use points outside of the DVC resorts.

Best wishes-

IMHO, if you don't understand enough about your membership to understand why this is the case, then you didn't read your materials carefully and didn't understand them well enough to buy your membership. Being disappointed in this is like being disappointed that tickets for a sold out event are not available at the box office, but are still available at the last minute through a ticket broker.

The inventory issue is covered extensively in the offerning statement stuff. Timeshares are dependant on buyers owning "time" at a resort. The plan is to always have the resort at capacity as much as possible. When someone "trades" their time at their DVC timeshare into the Disney Collection, the accompanying "time" then becomes the property of the traded into out of DVC program, ie, CRO. You still have access to that inventory if you want to spring for a cash reservation.

IMHO, I find this comment very judgemental and unhelpful towards someone who doesn't understand the process. Responding with information and explanations and keeping the criticism to oneself would be more helpful and community-like.

To the OP - as the other posters have explained - some rooms are not available for rental on points - they are cash reservations only. The inventories between CRO and MS are only interchangable under certain circumstances.

It certainly is confusing to learn and understand all of the workings of DVC. Hopefully people on these boards can help you to learn about the process. I know I would never have known some of this stuff on my own - it was certainly not explained by a

Did you try at another resort? You didn't say which resort you were staying at. I find it hard to believe that there would not be any 1BR available at all. You may have to ask yourself which is more important, the resort itself or the unit size.

I agree.

I don't want to start a "contest," but I don't want it to seem like kathleena is alone in her opinion either. If we check the site's posting rules, I think we'll find personal comments like that are considered inappropriate.

This is interesting.... So if CRO has rooms of theirs that will sit empty, that applies to their %per the contract and they are SOL if they remain empty, but if DVC asked for any of those empty rooms, DVC has to credit CRO back for them?

To the OP... sorry you were not able to upgrade to a 1 bedroom, and sorry some of the replies were less than freindly. ((((Hugs)))) I would keep calling back though... you never know what might happen!

Please keep us posted!

Thank you! I appreciate your insight CarolMN and your defending me Kathleena! :flower:

I do understand that there are rules and stipulations etc. so to even imply that I had no idea what I was buying into, is well IMHO derogatory.

Once again thanks for those who helped and CarolMN you really "answered" I guess what was my "issue" as to the late date of vacant rooms. Now next question - any hope of a waiting list for cancellations? We have our hearts set on BCV.

Laurbearz - Please note that I said "I think" - that is just what I have speculated to be the case. It could be way off the mark!

In that same vein (speculation, LOL), I think it is sometimes in DVC's best interest to trade with CRO - if the CRO rooms (which DVC sent to them in the first place) go unused, DVC doesn't get back any cash (based on my assumption that DVC bears the risk) to pay for the trade. So why not let a member reserve an available CRO room for points that would otherwise go unused and give CRO another night that might end up getting rented for cash? Maybe part of the reason the points for non-DVC resorts are so high is that many of the nights DVC sends to CRO go empty.

Actually, I'm quite sure no cash is sent back and forth - it is just bookkeeping entries.

I didn't intend my answer to the OP's post to be mean. Sorry if it was taken that way.

Best wishes -

There's always hope. But 7 days prior, all waitlists go away. You have to call after that to see if something has become available. My advice is to call now and get on the waitlist (if you aren't already) and then call back daily once you get a week away.

Good luck!

LOL Carol... sorry... I was speculating too! and aparently making quite a spectical of my self while doing it! LOL

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This line of discussion will stop immediately. These boards are here to answer questions for people who may or may not understand every little nuance of the DVC Contract. Not to make inflamatory comments on people knowledge of the contract.

I will be the first to admit that I did not understand all the inner workings of DVC when I originally signed, but did know how to use it in general. Of course, I don't know all the inner workings of my car, but I do know how to drive. (BTW - I do know more about cars that the average non-mechanic person)

I second that.

Carol - I'm guessing by someone else's comment that you may have thought I meant you but I didn't. Sorry if it seemed that way.
Ditto! Your answer was wonderful.

I will never apologize for telling someone to read the contract they sign and to understand it thoroughly and to get legal counsel if they don't understand a contract that requires them to spend thousands of dollars. If people consider that a personal attack, so be it. I'm certainly not picking on the OP in this regard, it is advice I give to family, friends, and clients. I am very sorry that the OP did not get what was wanted for this weekend, and I do hope that something still comes through somehow some way. I know that this can be a frustrating policy with respect to DVC ownership, but it is one that anyone who signed a DVC contract should know about and understand. If the OP truly didn't know, I'm sorry they had to find out under such circumstances and stress.

O2BNWDW,
If all else fails, why not ask again at check-in? If the CRO cash rooms are still vacant, maybe they would then let you use points to change to a 1 bedroom. Worth a try...

I'm gonna try! We'll hope for the best. :flower:

It certainly won't ruin our vacation it was just a last minute thing! Especially when my DH told me this morning we may not be able to go next year :earseek: Imagine the panic! I thought I was saving the points for the next big one!!! :rotfl:

And for those that are wondering about others ability to understand a contract...I think I did put "vent" on my op. Not a judgement of right or wrong on DVC's part.
