1.5yo in line?

How have you noticed little ones (about a year and a half) doing in lines? I plan to wear my baby carrier for times when she wants to be held a lot in a line. Should I plan for small activities? We're going the first week in Dec.

Our 1st trip my kids were 18 months and just turned 3 and we went the week of easter when the lines were very very long. We didn't have any do anything special other than trying to keep them distracted, talking about the day or pointing out things in line that we could see. The lines do move pretty quickly though, even when we waited 60 min for peter pans flight.

We have been when the lines are a 60 min wait and in September when all you had to do was walk right up. Its hard, but remember that they are just kids.

No matter what, you will not be the only parent there with a small child in line. Don't worry and just have fun.

Time spent in lines can be a great opportunity for a little snack or drink, and with your vacation dates, your line time should be minimal. I assume your little one will be spending a LOT of time in a stroller, so make the most of this time to stretch those little legs. Rehearse a couple simple songs (think M-I-C-K-E-Y..) where you stamp your feet and clap together or hold hands and bounce. Basically, anything that entertains and exercises your DD before she goes on the attraction and back into her stroller!

I think at that age, we brought stickers (which was a big deal because she didn't get them otherwise) and a stuffed minnie mouse. Mostly just letting her walk around in the area that our party took up and talking to her kept her busy. She also snoozed in the carrier (Ergo) in a couple of lines. That was handy.

Remember, your little one's perspective will be at knee level--not a very interesting view! So, let her stretch her legs for a while, pick her up and point things out for a while, sing and chat with her--all simple things. Other than having a small drink and small snack for a very long queue, that should be more than adequate to keep her entertained. I usually end up chatting with little ones in line or playing peek-a-boo with them--and I'm not very good with children! *LOL*

Our son was 18 months when we took our 1st family trip to WDW. We went in June (the week after Fathers Day) so it was pretty HOT!! He did a lot of sleeping while in line and on the rides. The only ride I really remember him staying awake while we were in line was for Maelstorm @ Epcot. I kept him occupied, and others around, by holding him up over the wall, so he could see everything and play with the people around us.

I've never noticed anyone have trouble unless it was a toddler having an exceptional fit b/c they had some other needs that any amount of entertainment would not fix...mainly "hot, hungry, thirsty, tired, or in need of a diaper change".

As a rule of thumb, I try to avoid lines that exceed a 30 minute wait. So Dumbo, we hit FIRST thing if that is in our plans, then pooh, we fast pass peter pan. and then we mosy around catching stuff as we go for MK. And if it is a ride that my toddler can ride and it has a fast pass--we will usually do the fast pass.

I second the advice about bringing the child up so that they can actually see things as they wait.

We took DD at 22 months (in Nov) and she only "lost it" in line once. We were waiting in a long line for Dumbo and she kept pointing to the ride and saying "go round-n-round" she didn't understand that we had to wait for about 80 other people to have their turn first. Other than that she did great.
I tried to take snacks in line (popcorn was a big hit) and we bought her one of those light-up toys they sell before the night parades which mesmerized her.
