1/22/2006 Roll Call for Wonder Cruisers

I registered the kids for the club already, but I think we're skipping Palo this cruise (unless we can room service it from cat 3??).

I still have to make spa reservations. I've heard mixed reviews of the massages. How can you make sure that your massage therapist is actually licensed? Any spa treatment better than the other? I read all the spa threads and I'm still not sure!
I am thinking that you can room service it from concierge in a CAT 3......hear that everyone! PALO in TAHOES room every night! Woohoo! When should we be there???;)

I can tell you a little about Norwegian food! I lived there for two years and have visited numerous times since. Now it also depends on how authentic the Norwegian food is at Epcot. AND I am not and never will be a fish eater--and wasn't when we lived there!

I actually like venison stew--it's a lot like beef stew, and venison is is leaner than beef. There's always meatballs and potatoes and the like (think Ikea food). They have lamb (which I also don't eat either) and pork. Lots of potatoes. They also serve ligonberry (Swedish word) jam with practically everything--I find it much tastier than cranberry sauce. Ligonberry jam with meatballs or venison stew is quite yummy. They also have great cheeses (I'm very partial to Jarlsberg) and breads. And open faced sandwiches can be found everywhere and some without fish on them! Try "lefse" (flat tortilla-like bread made from potatoes) with butter and cinnamon sugar. But save room for desserts--cakes and tortes and rice pudding with raspberry sauce! Yum!

Above all, avoid "lutefisk." Maybe the restaurant will even not serve it because it smells so bad! :earseek:

I'm sure you'll find something you like--even if it is the chicken nuggets!

Karin
Somehow I missed this, BUT I tasted Rice cream for the 1st time at the Scandnavian booth at Food and wine 2 weeks ago. I really liked it. Do you have a good and easy recipe for this?? key word EASY!

PS anyone going to have a 10 yr old DS this sailing? My kid would like a pre cruise pen pal....This will be the 1st cruise without his siblings, as 2 of them are staying with Dad.

Is rice cream like rice pudding? I know I am going to gain many lbs on this trip as everything just looks so interesting and tasty, besides I don't have to slave and cook either! :earsgirl: I am not a big desert person but I plan on trying many different ones.

Just wondering, are the alcoholic drinks expensive? I like coffee w/baileys, margaritas, white wine, light beer. Any info on any of these? I just don't want a huge shock when we get our tab.

Nope...ours are little DD (3), DS (4). Karin does have an almost 8 yr old going though. She told me this morning!

well if I was forced to have a massage, I wouldn't turn it down either!!! :rotfl2: We have had many family vacations mostly with all six of us and we have taken many business trip along with DH with the little ones, but this is one of the biggies! Your DD and mine should get along great. My DD willbe 4 in April. My son is only 11 mo older than DD so he will be tagging along too but he doesn't quite so the princesses in the same light. ;)

He would rather see goffy or captain hook. pirate:

I see you are from California. DH has a conference next summer in San Diego that we will likely go to! We have been there before and liked it. DS really liked legoland. He was 2 1/2 at the time.

At Disneyland earlier in the year, we went to the princess breakfast, and my son refused to be photographed with the princesses. We did get a few good pics of him with the Genie and the Beast. Those boys!

In some respects I actually like Legoland better than Disneyland. :earseek: What did I just say??! I find it not as overwhelming, not as crowded, and it has better food. It's a great place for littler ones. (Lest anyone misunderstand :goodvibes , I love Disneyland too--esp at night!) We can discuss this more later, but we must meet up here next summer! K.

This cracked me up!!

Does it make any sense to be going to weight watchers to lose a few lbs and then all you do is look forward to all of the delicous food!!!!!! OH WELL
LOL, does it have to make sense? I lost several pounds before our cruise last week and then I just ate whatever I wanted onboard. It was so worth it!! I'm trying to get myself back on the precruise eating plan... but with all this Halloween candy laying around... sheesh!

So with that said, if I am "forced" to get a massage, I will probably try the aromastone massage on Kelli's recommendation!
Yeah, twist my arm for that one too! :rotfl:

Just let us know when! We'd be glad to meet in your room for some wonderful food! LOL Maybe champange too! Only kidding.

Yes, I think that rice cream and the rice pudding I've talked about are the same thing. My mom has a great recipe for it (with the all important raspberry sauce). It's easy, though somewhat time-consuming. You have to boil the rice in milk, then something else, then you fold in whipping cream. Maybe I should learn how to make it!

Anyway, since my mom at the moment is keeping an eye on the entire neighborhood playing in our front yard (poor thing), I will have her e-mail me the recipe when she gets home. We have it every Christmas Eve and then leave some by the fire place for Santa!

OK then...that puts me out! Haha ! It was strawberry rice cream at the FW....it was very different. I liked it. Think Mom can make me some and air express it to me?? Or we can just have it onboard for dessert in Tahoes cabin after Palo dinner every night......;)

My son will be almost 8 by cruise time. He is becoming quite a social guy and always wants someone to play with. When I registered him for the kids club, I put in the notes that I want him to be able to go to the oceaneer lab, since he's within a few weeks of his b-day. I know that the club will be too little for him, as he is used to being around kids 1-2 years older. He will also have the option of staying with his sis in the club.

If I remember correctly, Alvaro has a son 11ish.

I haven't touched our candy. We have a ton of it too. Candy is not for me. I'm for chips/cheese/salsa/guacamole, or oreos (don't put next to me if you want any left). :rotfl:

Oh wow!! We are going to SD for the weekend before Thanksgiving and Legoland was one of our thoughts.....anyone know where it is? :goodvibes We're going to be staying Hilton Mission Valley if anyone knows where that is....I'm not too familiar with California, so I'm glad this package has ground transfers...but we still have to plan our free day and a half........my brother went to the original Legoland in Denmark and would REALLY like to do this one too!

Cool....sounds like a plan.....Does he like yugioh??? That is my sons ice breaker with anyone! LOL If a stranger were going to kidnap him, all that person would need to do was talk about YuGiOh....oh brother...LOL But I would love for him to know some kids pre cruise so he can have a great time. However, according to some on this board, I am a very bad parent for letting him have check out priviledges. :confused3

I know exactly where it is! Legoland is in Carlsbad, about 30 min north of your hotel. We went to Legoland Denmark too back in the '70s, with no rides. I wonder if Denmark's now has rides.

Just let me know what info you need. PM me if you want. This is a really nice time of year here.

Well, I can't find any of our account summaries from the last year or two...maybe I blocked them out....but as of Sept '03, here are a few of our expenses:

RockN Bar D $9.19
Upbeat 2.49
Signals 6.75
Sessions 4.03
Room service 1.73
Preludes 8.19
Pinocchio's 3.44
Signals 8.09

Guessing the $8 and $9 things are an expensive drink, or an alcoholic drink and a non alcoholic one. Room service was a can of ginger ale when my mil was feeling queasy. (But it was there in 5 minutes!!) I want to say a glass of wine with my dinner in May was 7.95. Can't say if it was an expensive brand or not...it was a Pinot Grigio. I'd plan on $6 or $7 for an adult drink, or for one of the specialty coffees and you'd probably have a little extra...in the meantime I'll try hard to find a more current invoice.

One of our favorite things to do, on our recent Wonder cruise, was to go down to Cadillacs, and I think it was from 730 to 830 it was buy 1 get 1 free Martinis :-)
