09/28/2002 Cruise

Oh my gosh!!! I just read the most hilarious book! I haven't read anything this funny since I read a Bill Bryson travel book. It is called "A girl named Zippy". I saw the author on the Today show. It is an honest to God, laugh out loud book. I was actually snorting while I was reading. Sorry to go on, but if anyone is looking for a good book, this is it. I got it at Borders and it was in mass paperback. only about $10. Won't tell you what it is about, but it is funny, funny, funny...

William, when didi you get on the computer??? Caught you!! Like the music though:D
Just got DH his birthday present. a prescription snorkel mask. HOpe he likes it. HIs birthday is the 21st of Sept. One week befoe we sail.

Gotta go. It is finally rainy here and cool. Lovely! Elaine

Mary we will be in Grand Cayman on Tuesday October the 1st. Sunday Key West, Monday the 30th at sea. Tuesday Grand Cayman, Wednesday Cozumel,Thursday sea, Friday castaway cay.

HOLY SMOKE! I just looked at my post with the dates! Wow...wish I could say I was drunk, but I wasn't!Honest!LOL. I will fix it. Sorry if I confused anyone!YIKEES!

Was "Balto" a Disney film? I thought it was a Don Bluth film, who (if you want a little trivia,) was a Disney animator until he walked out with some other Disney animators in a big split in the mid 1980's. That was after "The Black Cauldron" bombed and before Eisner stepped in to head up the company.

I'm getting my portfolio ready to submit for a pre-production job in the studio with Disney (keep your fingers crossed.) Though if I do get a job with the studios in Florida we'll have to set up some sort of reservations desk in our livingroom for all of the relatives who would be coming down to "visit."

Lastly, I have it on good authority that the motto for the Navy is,

"Row, row, row faster boys... the captain wants to ski!"

Stacy, when I was 11 years old I had a friend whose brother was 16 at the time. He did "cartooning" and his goal was to work at disney. He made a cell for me of the pink fairy from Sleeping Beauty. I kept it. Imagine my surprise when Pocahantas came out and his name was listed as the main animator for John Smith! I wrote him and he remembered me! He works down in Florida!! He is going to autograph my cell for me. that was so neat! Good Luck Elaine

Howdy all!! Another week in the book and only a couple more to go hard to concentrate at work with out looking at the wall calander I made a small "MAGIC" that I move every day now that it hit September. The project I am working is winding down in the documentation end and the practical portion gearing up to start so we get to take a little vacation at the south Jersey shore this weekend, got to get a little base tan Dennis sounds like you can pack very quickly and I am re-thinking the whole tux thing. Chrystina and You are so lucky and will have a great time at WDW at Christmas time. We did our last big vacation there during early December and the parks are wonderful, especially if your a Christmas person. If you have not already seen the Osborne light show and the Very Merry Christmas Party plan on doing that. One of our most favorite vacations ever Christmas decorations, Magic Kingdom at night with the fireworks and snow falling on the main street, breath taking. Hve a great weekend, next week will be a little rough for the nation but we will never forget. Hope all feel and stay well See ya'll tuesday. :earsgirl: :earsboy:

This time last year I was happily counting down to our 9/22 cruise! Then 9/11 happened! After my initial panic (I have a sister who lives and works in downtown Manhatten and a brother in law who works at the Pentagon) I began worrying about my DIS family. Thankfully with the help of the internet, we found out everyone was ok. Of couse we did not know what we were going to do re: the cruise. Should we go? Cancel? One DIS'er was coming in from Germany, would they make it ok?
Our desosion was made when we found out how wonderfully Disney reacted to the tradgey. The cruise passangers that returned on Thur. were bussed to WDW and put up until flight arragments could be made. The following Sat (the cruise before we were to leave) left the port with only half the regular number of passagers.
The 9/22 cruisers desided we would all bring American flags to wave at all our ports. We had a wonderful cruise and were somewhat able to put the events of 9/11 behind us for a few days. I was very greatful to my DIS friends who I was able to, cry, and laugh with!I was a very emotional time.

Good morning Mary and the rest of our DIS family. Can you believe it girl in 3 weeks our feet will be walking on the magic:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I can almost taste the chicken fingers now:p

I plan on bringing my digital camera and taking tons of pictures. I won't be able to give them to people until we return and I can burn them to cd's. I don't want to lug the laptop with me. Mike

@Goofynut -- I love french fries with gravy!! There is a pizza place here that delivers and one of the things they offer is that. The gravy is yummy -- they put a lot of rosemary in it. One time they forgot my gravy and I called to complain. LOL

I can't believe the cruise is so close --- Ahh I have so much to do. Have to try on clothes and fill in anything I am missing. Have to buy the t-shirt to go with my dress clothes. Where does one find formal t-shirts? I hope my kids have enough to wear that still fits them. Otherwise mine will be the naked children on the cruise ship.

Mike (papa) Eric is bringing his digital camera also. I have to make sure we have enough memory cards for all the pictures I will want him to take. (LOL) What kind of camera do you have?

William -- I love this music. Isn't this Pacabel's Canon? I'm not a big classical music person, but I remember this one from picking wedding march music.

It is currently Rosh Hashanah -- the Jewish New Year. I wanted to wish everyone blessings for the coming year (whether you are Jewish or not I fugure we could all use the blessings.)

Here's a funny: DH tried on his tuxedo for the cruise and it is now too big!!! That means he is now skinnier than when we got married!

Beth: my husband would be jealous but I'm going to be nice and not tell him. After all he lives for the opportunity to spend one entire week just eating and eating and eating.....

Beth -

Thank you for the greetings and blessings! Although I am Catholic, I grew up with mostly Jewish friends and always celebrated holidays with them. As a very wise rabbi father of my girlfriend once told me, "If we believe in God, we have no need."

Happy Holidays to all! And 3 weeks til our sailing!

Rae

Beth I have a canon d30 with 28-135is and 50mm lens. I use a 5 gig mindstor portable hard drive to store my photos on. Still learning how to take nice photos. Mike

Hi Everyone, Just read a helpful hint I think I will use. The poster suggests that cruisers prepare a few casaroles before leaving, and put them in the freezer. Might be a good way to use up any fresh veggies, milk, eggs, etc. Then she said she will give the nieghbor who is taking in the mail some money to buy milk eggs, bread, etc. the day before they are due home. She is also having her house cleaned while she's gone. Just thought I would pass these ideas along. I know I will have a lot to do before returning to work on 10/7. Laundry, unpacking, mail, bills, banking and so on. Might be nice to have a few things taken care of in advance.

Hello all,

Sorry its been awhile since I have been "on board". My DD 6 started 1st grade and a friend of hers from Kindergarten passed away from a Brain Tumor (it was just diagnosed in Jan). He was supposed to be in her class on Weds, but did not make it - he passed away that night. - Pray for Shayne and his family. Shayne left behind his twin brother Josh.

DD is taking it ok - she asked some really tough questions - that broke my heart. School said that I will have more to come. Wish me luck.

Oh a happier note -

TwinAve - I normally go through a "nesting" phase before my vacation - where the whole house is **** and span before I leave. Call it a little obsessive cleaning - <it has already began>. I do like the idea of dinners made before I leave

All you DVCr's - did you see the AP are increasing AGAIN? I hear if you by your voucher or renewal before 9/11 - it will be at the current price - if only I had a stash of cash to do it.

I wish I was cruising NOW.

Jul--- My heart goes out to Shayne and his family. It is always difficult to deal with the death of a anyone, but even more so when it is a child. Pixie dust your way to help you and your daughter.

Ave--- I am like Jul, I always need to clean the house before we leave. Why is that? I guess so you don't need to deal with it when you come home. The dinner ideas are something that I have never thought of. Of course given the choice between cooking the extra dinners or cleaning the house--- I would go with house cleaning. I don't really like to cook.

I hadn't heard that the AP were going up in price. I just bought mine in June, and normally only buy everyother year. Jul, had did you find out about the increase.

I just got back from the York Fair (like a State Fair). Alabama was the group there tonight, so the fair was really crowded until the concert started. I've seen them in the past so didn't bother to go to concert. I only go for one thing---THE FOOD. So tomorrow I will be walking 3 miles to work off all the excessive calories.

I got my documents today. My TA sent them priority mail to me. So have the documents, my passport. Now if I could just find someone to pack for me, I would be all set.

William-- I can only take a Small World for a little while, so we need to get to the next page and a new music selection.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend.

Nancy

Jul sorry that your DD is having to deal with this at her young age. Pixie Dust is headed your way.

Ave hope that you get all of your stuff taken care of on your return.

Jul you can nest at my house anytime. I have gotten a little lazy with my house keeping duties. My windows sure need washing:bounce: Do you have to have a license to hunt dust bunnies??? Mike
