I'm so glad to see so many wanting to participate in the group pirate picture. We've enjoyed having one from our cruises as it is just the DIS group. The picture on the beach is also great but this one is a little more special as it is our group. Great memories! Linda does a great job of not only getting a photographer but also a character as well. As you can see we had Mickey in '06 and I believe it was '07 we had Captain Hook and Mr. Smee.

Will there be some sort of schedule with all the DIS stuff too?

Looks like I missed a fun chat too! Hate that I missed it but had to take Ahja's hair out so it can be redone. Kinky twists take just as long to take out as they do to put in. Sheesh! Now that it's 3:20am I'm calling it a night.

Good morning everyone - happy Saturday!

It is a rainy day here in Chicagoland but it is packing day!

Missed you guys in chat. We did have a pretty good representation and our excitement carried over the chat. We had some people who never cruised and others interested about the Member Cruise. We also talked about the holiday season on both DCL and at WDW. All in all a great time until the room booted us out.

We'll be in WDW next Friday night so no chat for me either. I'm thinking we'll either be a)watching Illuminations or b) asleep.

Wow. What a wonderful idea. DW and I are getting in on September 20, but not until after 4:00 and we are staying at the MCO Hyatt. Do you plan on celebrating mass at any other time or on Sunday morning somewhere/someplace? My one criticism of DCL is, unlike Holland America, there is no opportunity to attend mass while cruising.

I am sure our parish priest would be more than happy to give us "special dispensation," but it's just not the same thing.

This post reminded me of my very first cruise way back in the 70's on an Italian line called Sitmar. I was with my Mom, and her Goddaughter. Also at our table were two older women who we somehow dubbed Mert and Gert (kind of like Trixie and Pixie but not as much fun). Also at our table was a Catholic Priest from Chicago (though you would never know it from his dress). Anyway this priest became a life long friend of mine and even was the one who married Mark and I. A number of funny stories from that cruise for your morning entertainment:

1) Ship sails on Saturday and we meet Fr. Mike at dinner. He asks if we are going to Mass in the morning and of course we say yes. Sunday morning comes and we are out on deck killing some time before Mass. An announcement comes over the PA that Mass will be delayed by 20 minutes due to some problems they are having. So we head down a little early 10 minutes before the new start time. As we walk in Fr. Mike is already on the stage and immediately starts Mass. More and more people come in. At breakfast he pointed out that he held Mass until we got there. When we told him about the announcement his face got red and he said "I wondered why so many people were late".

2) Formal night and Fr. Mike is in a beautiful off white dinner jacket and blue ruffled shirt (ok this was the 70's). I compliment him on the jacket and his response "When my friend dropped out of the seminary he gave me his robes and since I didn't need two pair I had this jacket made".

3) Needless to say all week we were calling him Fr. Mike (even my Mother). Well one night while we were in San Juan he stayed ashore for dinner with friends from Chicago. We get to the table and Mert and Gert say to me "Isn't your Father joining us dear" (they didn't get it even though he introduced himself the first night). I just said "No Dad is busy tonight".

Back then on Sitmar Priests would get a single room (small) free for saying Mass daily for the crew and clients. He went all over the world doing this. He wasn't a parish priest. Instead he worked as a clinical psychologist at the VA hospital.
