09/18/11 - DVCers Take Over the Dream (S.S. Member Cruise 2011) - Thread #2

Hey everyone. We're new to this and WOW was there a lot to read. I started skimming since there were 2 threads and LOTS of pages. WOW. ok... honestly, I skipped pages and went the the end.
Last year we went on the cruise but it was whirlwind trip and by the time I got the cruise, I was exhausted. We started in Disneyland for a week, then flew to WDW , then the member cruise and finished with the WDW. And everyone thought I'd be tired of Disney. Tired...yes, Tired of Disney? Never!
This year we're just doing WDW but we're bringing the babies and the grandparents so it will be a different kind of tired. If anyone has experience with babies and folks in the mid 80's I'm taking advice! I look forward to meeting all of you and hopefully getting to know you better before we set sail.

I agree about "NEVER" getting tired of Disney.
Can't give you any advice, but I'm sure it'll all work out and everyone will have a GREAT time.

:welcome:

The babies are the easy part (for me)...eat.poop.play.sleep.repeat...

For the folks in the mid 80's...
  • list of medications
  • Pre-existing conditions? Chances are, they may have one. Get a medical exam and clearance from their physician.
  • Dietary restrictions?
  • Mobility?

I would say, try to stick to a schedule, esp. with the 80's folks, to keep track of their well being just in case they may be too tiered to keep up with the activities. It helps for someone to stay with them at all times just in case an emergency arises. :thumbsup2

Ok, it's 1:10 EST, yes?
Disney joke of the night...:rolleyes1

ready?...

why are there no planes where peter pan lives?

I'm not sure how old the "babies" are, but I can give you our experience. Several years ago we took a DCL cruise to Nassau. Our (then) pre teen enjoyed the kids area so much she never got off the boat at Nassau. They give you a pager in case you need to come get your child. We spent all day at Nassau together. Half way through the day, the pager went off. :scared1: The message said, "Caitlyn is moving from Kids Area "A" to Kids Area "B". All right, no problem, we laughed and continued exploring/shopping.

This last year our 3 year old only spent a couple of hours there at a time. Long enough for dinner or a show, but not both. Of course kids are welcome nearly everywhere on the boat, but when a venue is crowded and the kid is unruly, one of us must leave with the kid. On the last SSMC watching the premier of Secretariat, that was me. Luckily, due to overwhelming demand they added shows, one of which I caught.

The parents in their mid 80's, probably don't need a wheelchair, but if so it turns out very well at the parks (if you're going). When the lines are long, it generally reduces the wait. On the boat they have handicap rooms; I don't recall seeing but a few wheelchairs.
