We've sailed during hurricane season- once at the height of the season in mid Sept, and once at the end. We love sailing in September because the temperature is high and the crowds are low. No hurricane problems directly affecting us, but there were a few around the time we cruised.

Julie

Yes, we have sailed in hurricaine season---right in between Katrina and Rita. The only rain we saw was in Cozumel, and we were shopping at the time. Drove the prices down as no one was getting off the ship during the down pour. The sun came out and we had already gotten our bargins, then we were off to a beautiful day at the less crowded beach. Waters were calmer than our last 2 Eastern cruises. Sailed twice in November with the same results, beautiful weather and a little less crowded ship.

Ok, now I have to share my excitement......I was able to transfer my on board ressie to Sams Club yesterday at a 5% savings on top of the 10% DCL gave me....then just for laughs I had her check the SPH rooms and I GOT THEM, with the upgrade I was still able to keep my credits, and I still saved $5.00 bucks off my original ressie for two CAT 11's.

I can't belive some Diser did not snatch up those rooms......amazing. Looking forward to meeting all of you.

Cindy

better double check those SPH rooms with disney ... I've been on standby for one for quite awhile, I call regularly to double check and they are still booked and I am still on stand-by. Not mad at you ... but if you got one of the SPH rooms yesterday through Sam's Club, and I have been on standby for months and didn't get one, someones gonna get an earful!!!! :rolleyes1

Hey Mark,
Ok either you or I have posted to the wrong week. Anyway I am looking at 2 SPH rooms, if you are on the wrong week---I hope you get them.
:earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: .

SPH rooms are actullay CAT 10 rooms with an obstructed port hole. Not much obstruction and you get a porthole for a cheaper price. They are on deck 5 close to the kids clubs, and adjoining so for me a great value as the kids are always in and out of our room.
After reading thru some of this thread I see why I got the rooms I did, Missy gave them up and I happened to be out there at the right time .....I am happy :cool1:

After looking at Mark's ticker I think he is on another cruise as this is not the southern cruise but the Magic double dip

Gail-

We were just in Kentucky the last week in Sept. for my brother-in-law's wedding in Cynthiana. We stayed in Georgetown, near the Toyota plant. The kids loved it and were ready to move there immediately. It was very pretty, and everyone was so friendly. We hope to go back and visit in Frankfort sometime after our cruise-- which as dzneprincess has pointed it is only 47 weeks away.

Julie

Hello Julie! Glad to hear that you enjoyed our little state. I have lived in Kentucky my entire life, and absolutely love it here. I live in a very small town about two hours south of Lexington. I have been to Cynthiana many times.

Hello Everyone!

I know I haven't posted in several days. One of my best friend's daughter was killed in a car accident early Wednesday morning. We have been dealing with a lot over the past few days. She was only twenty-one. She just graduated from collage in May, started her dream job in July, purchased her first home in August, and she was married on August 20th. She was a wonderful young lady who was justing starting her life. It is so sad.

Everyone needs to call there loved ones right and now and say, "I love you!!!"

Oh my, I am so sorry for your troubles Gail. Hopefully everyone understands that the Lord had a much bigger plan in mind for his young angel.
Our thoughts are with you, and thank you for the reminder that we need to say I love you more and more.

I'm sailing on the:

7-NIGHT CRUISE TO COSTA MAYA
September 16-23, 2006
(Ship: Disney Magic)

Disney Magic "7-Night Caribbean Cruise to Costa Maya (and Cozumel) with two visits to Castaway Cay". "Special Southern" is what Disney calls it because it is different than the normal Eastern or Western itinerary. The nickname "double scoop" or "double dip" refers to the fact we are docking at Castaway Cay twice rather than just once.

Call it whatever you want.

Again, no hard feelings towards you, just wondering how I could be on standby with Disney for any one of the 6 SPH rooms (5020, 5022, 5024, 5520, 5522, or 5524), yet Sam's Club (of all places) had them readily available. I'm happy for you that you got them, I'm just a bit concerned what the meaning of 'stand-by' for the next available room means ... and I had all six listed as 'on stand-by'.

I talked to Disney last night and they "say" that they do not show any of these six rooms recently released or rebooked for this sailing date ... of course they were probably just trying to get me off their case. :rolleyes1

No biggie, gonna upgrade anyway if I can't get one of the SPH's in the next few months.

P.S. I updated my ticker to avoid any confusion in the future since you seem to prefer "Magic Double Dip" rather than "Special Southern".

Well back to reading the posts to get caught up-I am also trying to update all the new cruiseres as well!
Does anyone else feel that they should hold back on being excited d/t all the Hurricanes? because our 04 cruise was directly affected by Hurricane Jeanne I find myself a little apprehensive about getting too excited. you know, don't want to be let down!

Good Morning!

I am back to my normal schedule. My DD has basketball games today. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

AAAHHHHH!! Is school over yet! I am swimming in homework! The Western Civ. isn't so bad, the sociology is manageable, but the math is sucking my will to live! I will be working on that all weekend, with that said I hope everone has a great weekend, and I hope to see you next week!

Thanks Missy!! No biggie ... got my fingers crossed that maybe another one will come available, and I'm quite certain DCL is now fully aware that I would really like one of these rooms. pirate:

I really am very happy for goofysgirl and her family that they got one ... no hard feelings, sometimes it's the luck of the draw. Her TA probably called DCL at just the right moment, got the right CM on the phone and they did what they could to keep their customer happy. They probably figured I was already booked and they could get a new booking if they gave up the room to a new paying customer ... it's just business ... I understand.

Don't Worry ... Be Happy!!

Hey guys! I've been reading all of the posts about various rooms and categories. I'm just wondering if the room really matters that much on a ship. This will be my first cruise ever, but with the land vacations that I have taken, I always find a clean, safe hotel in a location that is convenient to the activities that I planned to do, and then reserved the cheapest room they had. I spent my money having fun. We have never spent much time in our rooms. I would not think it would be any different on a ship. I am hoping that there is enough to do that my daughter and I will not want to be in our room. If all works out as planned, we will sleep, shower and change in the room. With that in mind, I booked the cheapest room, a category 12. My DD and I are cruising alone, space should not be an issue. Am I going to be very disappointed, or will it be alright?

Gail-

Dh and I went on a 4 day RCCL in a cabin that was smaller than the standard Disney cabin, and with the two of us, we were fine. Ours was outside, however, but the porthole was very tiny-- like slightly bigger than my head. We've done 4 in a cat 8 twice so far, and it wasn't a problem.
