09/13/09 SSMC09 S.S. Member Cruise 2009 - Part 4!

Joanne,

She posted on Facebook on the 25th:

Round 1, September 23 - Complete; Round 2, September 30 - Determined to Get Through This!

I told her to keep positive and she said that she goes back next week to find out if it works.

take care

Thanks so much for the update, Flo. I hope all goes well for her.

Sue & John :lovestruc:lovestruc Chris & Bob

Happy Belated Anniversary!!!!

Wow, it looks like this group has several of the Alaska cruises covered. I have not even had a chance to inquire yet.

Maybe the week between when this class finishes up and the next one starts I can do some research.

I still keep thinking about getting away just for some R&R all by myself. Ok, I guess a couple of good nights of sleep might help that one.

That said, I am heading to bed. Slept about an hour last night so I am going to catch some ZZZZZs.

Enjoy the morning coffee club!!

Oh, one more note. Sue - Kyle only has 6 more activity badges until he has earned all 20. He is excited. He just received Sportsman, Showman, and Craftsman Monday night.

Chat with you all later.

Lisa

Lisa, congrats to Kyle.

Mary- I go on that thread, but it seems tough to get active. So many people have sailed together before and it seems like they are very involved together, if that makes sense??

Well, Dave, I guess we're stuck talking to each other! (Which is ok w/me). Oh, and by the way, we love AKV and really never noticed the smells at all. We'll be there in early Dec.

Good morning everyone - happy Saturday!

So glad the weekend is here! Hope everyone has a great one!

Good Morning everyone!

Well, it's warmer and a bit humid this morning - yuck! Poked my head outside and it feels sticky.

Going to do a training walk this morning in about an hour - hope to make about 10 miles or so. :yay:

Boy, you guys were up late last night! :rotfl:

:) Good Saturday Morning.

Good Luck on your walk Sue. Wow, 10 miles, that is alot. But I bet we walk that in one day at WDW easy.

We are getting ready to head out to a parade today. And let me tell ya, the weather stinks. It is not even in the 50's. The only reason we are going is because Brooke is going to be marching with her band in it. We are going to freeze our tushies off! What we don't do for the kiddos. But this is one of my favorite parades because there are so many bands in it.

Mary - have fun at lunch with your friend.

And I'm with Flo, chocolate, what chocolate? I didn't get no stinking chocolate! :lmao: Like I need chocolate. But I did get my Ghiradelli after the cruise, so all is well. ;)

Gotta Run. Have a great day! :flower3:

Cadbury - yum! Someone (aka Mark) ate the one you gave me. Of course I gave it to him but I thought he'd save me some. :rotfl:Luckily all was not lost as we had stopped in Epcot before heading home.

We're going to Macaroni Grill. That's where we usually meet up. It is quiet on Saturday afternoons and we have time to chat.

Have a great lunch. I like that place. Good food. Maybe before the end of the year we could get together for another lunch. i had fun.

take care

Hope you are having fun at the parade! Ah, yes, what we do for our kids - it's just criminal, isn't it!!

Oh, the 10 miles is just kind of a warm up. We got just under that done today and I'm home before 1 pm. I'm surprised I'm so early. We walk long but certainly not fast.

In two weeks, Oct 16, 17 & 18, I'm doing the Breast Cancer 3Day Walk in Philadelphia - that's 60 miles in 3 days! This will be my fifth year doing the walk. It's hard, but the people you meet and stories you hear are so inspirational, it's really amazing. Has anyone ever done or heard about the 3Day?

Wow Sue. Kudos to you for doing this walk. I have heard about the walk. I believe my bosses daughter in law is doing it in Arizona. It is wonderful that you are doing it. My hat is off to you. :worship:

The parade was absolutely freezing. I don't know how the kids did it. We were sitting wrapped up in blankets and stocking caps and gloves. My hand froze just trying to tape them walking by me. I took my glove off and brrrrrrrrrrrr. Brooke said she was actually glad to wear the uniform this parade. But the good news is they took 1st Place for middle schools! Yeah!!!!! I thought they did really good. The song they did this year was "Play that Funky Music". What fun!

Sue - I've heard of the walk. Good for you. One of the girls I used to work with (she has since left the company) did it a couple of times in honor of her mom who died of Breast Cancer. I sponsored Deb Wills (of www.allearsnet.com) this past year.

Congrats to Brooke and her band!

My plans changed today. My friends youngest son was sick so she had to stay home with him. We've rescheduled lunch. So instead Mark and I headed out to the Toy Story double feature in 3-D. Really enjoyed it and then we had an early dinner at Claim Jumper. Now we are just chilling at home.

Thanks for the "atta girl"s!! I appreciate it! When I do this, it makes me feel like I'm making a little bit of a difference, no matter how small it is. I figure that once they find the cure for one type a cancer, maybe the rest will follow - there's always hoping!!

In order to participate in this event, each walker has to raise $2300. Even though my personal page doesn't reflect it, because we have money we raised at our beef n' beer event, I'm only about $200 short of my goal so far, so I will put in a shameless plug to all my new friends - if any one feels like supporting me on my 3Day Walk, here is the link to my page - www.the3day.org/site/TR/Walk/PhiladelphiaEvent2009?px=1444872&pg=personal&fr_id=1297. :worship:

It's pretty stormy here, off and on! Crazy weather! :confused3

Sue, you rock! I'm lucky to do 5 most days. The 3-day walk is for a great cause; let's hope the funds can back research that will eliminate cancer.

Hi, everyone,
DH and I are back from SF. If you have never been there and have the opportunity to go, don't pass it up. I almost did. I was sent there for a conference by my job. It is a beautiful city, so clean, and I never felt unsafe.
Our first full day there we went on a tour of Muir Woods to see the 3000 year old trees, so tranquil, and it was just beautiful. Then onto Sonoma wine tasting tour. That was great. We stopped at 3 family run wineries and tasted and I bought two bottles of my favorites. We were free to have lunch in the town of Sonoma. They were having a harvest of the grapes festival in the square. Had a great time. Then back to Sausalito. DH and I were tired from the time change, so we stayed on the van and were taken to the hills across from SF. The view was breathtaking.
Next day we took an am tour of the city. There are beautiful parks in SF, and they are HUGE. I loved the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park.
Saw the row of houses called Painted Ladies...old restored Victorian homes where Full House shows in their opening, and also Mrs Doutfire also shows as their home, Lombard Street the crookest street in USA, and all of the other famous sites. We rode the "Rice a Roni" cable car the entire route...a blast.
Did the Alcatraz tour...unbelievable!! DH took public trans to the AT&T ballpark and got a $5 ticket to see the SF Giants...that's right $5!!! So he went and caught a foul ball...he was excited! Went to Fisherman's Warf and to Pier 39 to see the sea lions...boy do they STINK...I could smell them on me and I think I smelled like a beach sea lion getting back on the streetcar!!
Public transportation cost us $24 each for the week with a pass...that was great. Food everywhere and reasonable...my favorite was Thai that I tried for the first time...delicious! We stayed at the Hilton and made a mistake by walking into what we were called was a "quick buffet breakfast", choice of continental of the hot buffet. We were there a total of 20 min and Dh had the continental and I had the hot buffet, eggs, toast, bacon, usual fare...the bill was $65 plus tip!!! at the HIlton. I nearly fainted. Never again. It was a RIP OFF.
Ok, so my thrill was going to opening day at the Disney Family Museum in the Presidio (an old army base). It was beautifully restored brick building. Lots of old family photos with Walt talking. His Oswald Rabbit and of course Steamboat Willie, lots of Snow White...and a beaitufl room that you keep walking down a cirlce, kind of like in an aquarium, and there is a miniature of all of Disneyland in the center...beautiful. And it all ends with Walt's death and all of the animated drawings of Mickey etc mourning his loss. It was beautiful. It is supposed to take 2 and a half hours to get through...wrong. To really see it all and read and appreciate everything, it takes all day. We had passes to get in at 3 and we left at 6 when it closed. I didn't have time to listen to everything and take the time I would have liked. Tickets were $20 each. There is a small museum store with inexpensive things and pricey things...and a sign that they are not affiliated in any way with the Walt Disney Company. Lots of art type supplies and $1 little things with clay and crayons and pencils for kids. I was impressed by that. I got a limited edition poster of the opening of the museum for $12.99 and a beautiful wallet with Snow White theme..it is appliqued and has a Disney ticket on it for $30 which was cheap considering the bag to match was $70...I love it. And I got a Disney Museum journal and some post cards. All in all it was wonderful. It took close to an hour to get there by public transportation. There is a beautiful view of the bay from the museum. They were taping something for the local news while we were there. Oh, the neat thing was the elevator to go to the second floor is designed like a train car...perfect train car decor...too cool.
I am so exhausted from the time change and when I can I will post pics. No photos permitted in the WD museum...only outside.
Blessings,
Susan

Susan, how wonderful! That sounds like a fantastic trip; good for you.

:scared1:Sue- That is awesome, what a great way to raise money for this terrible disease. 60 miles??? I have owned a few cars that couldn't drive that far!! I wish you the best of luck.:worship:

The parade was absolutely freezing. I don't know how the kids did it. We were sitting wrapped up in blankets and stocking caps and gloves. My hand froze just trying to tape them walking by me. I took my glove off and brrrrrrrrrrrr. Brooke said she was actually glad to wear the uniform this parade. But the good news is they took 1st Place for middle schools! Yeah!!!!! Chris-Congrats to Brooke:thumbsup2

Well, Dave, I guess we're stuck talking to each other! (Which is ok w/me). Oh, and by the way, we love AKV and really never noticed the smells at all. We'll be there in early Dec.

Joanne- That doesn't bother me at all either, I just can't get into the flow over there. And thanks for the no smells report :rotfl2:

Have a good night everyone

Happy Monday, Everyone! :yay:

Susan, sounds like you had a fabulous trip! Can't wait to see some photos. Thanks for all of the "best wishes" for my walk! I'm getting excited about it. My feet aren't, but I am!!
