As we go this Friday and will be there on Sunday, are there likely to be any periods of silence in the parks for 09/11. I know it sounds unlikely but we don't want to be seen as ignorant if suddenly everything stops and we don't know about it.

Yes I'm sure there will be. I know outside America in the World Showcase at Epcot they have a flag raising session each day in memory of those who died in the World Trade Centre attacks.

actually i kind of doubt it....america's not big on moments of silence....and certainly not at the happiest place on earth, where reality is supposed to be left at the gate...

we'll be there from friday too (we're still on our annual home visit and decided today to make one more trek down to WDW before heading back across the pond - i bought the airline tickets and made the resort reservations today)....i didn't even notice the date until you brought it up.....i guess we should be worried, since WDW is known as a major target....and at least one of the terrorists from the first WTC bombings worked for a number of years in WDW, before he turned to more explosive endeavors....
in any case, the date doesn't seem to have scared anyone away this year, as many of the onsite resorts are fully booked for this weekend....

My personal opinion is that there is probably no safer time to fly, as I am sure that the date is a stark reminder to security services that they need to be ultra-vigilant.

We fly on the 12th and I haven't given any consideration to allowing the date to affect our plans.
We flew in 2002 on the 13th Sept and had no problems.

I was in New York in April with my WTB and we took the time to pay our respects at the former site of the WTC. It was a very moving atmosphere and so it is clear that people will not forget. With this in mind, I am certain that those who wish to will take 5 minutes out of their day to offer their thoughts, however, moments of silence are probably best kept in the areas affected (NYC, Washington DC & Pennsylvania).

Just my opinion, UK citizen with no direct link to what happened that day. I haven't forgotten and feel I have paid a suitable amount of respect to the unfortunate ones, however, as a nation victimised by terrorism (IRA) for 30 years or more, we do not hold moments silences for each attack, but also never forget.

we went just after 9/11 and never thought anything of the flight it was probably the safest time to fly, security was obviously tighter than before. We also went last sept 10th. At sea world they played their national anthem and had a minutes silence at 8.45am. Don`t know about disney though

We were out there for September 11th in 2002 and 2003 and we were in the parks those days. There was no 2 mins of silence or anything, again i dont think America tends to do minutes of silence!

We came home on Sept 12 last year, and wondered what happened on sept 11th. Other than the usual news stories from ground zero, there was nothing else to show it was sept 11th.

We were in MK on September 11, 2002, and there was definitely a minute's silence, although there were plenty of people who either didn't know what was going on or who just didn't care. All the rides stopped for that minute, and most of the people in the line I was in bowed their heads.

It's four years later, though, so who knows what they'll do.
