09/05/09 LABORless MAGICal Meanderers

Hi all! Wanted to introduce ourselves and say hello, as we just booked this cruise a few days ago (at the TA rate, sorry Queen, but couldn't pass it up!) and I am now frantically re-scheduling appointments and meetings, cleaning house, and trying to get organized for this Magical trip.

We will be myself (DW), the DH, and the DS (who is 2.5). We are GTY in a cat 7 and don't have a stateroom number yet, and we are late dinner seating. Our last cruise on DCL was in 2005 pre-kiddo, and we pretty much sat on the balcony and drank by the pool.

This will be the first time we've done a cruise with DS, so hoping it will go well. He is a seasoned traveler despite being 2, we travel 1-2x a month, so he's used to being in new places, flights, etc., just worried he won't have room to "run free" on the ship like he does at the playgrounds at WDW. I think I saw one or two other little ones on the cruise list-- if anyone has tips to share on Flounder's or little ones on board, be glad to hear them. I've been searching for info on Flounder's and when you can take the littles to the Oceaneer Club for Fmaily time, but can't find a whole lot online.

Anyway, we're late, but excited, and would love to meet some DISers on the ship!
Cheers!

Hi TaraLee
You can go any time to play with your child. Specific family time will be posted in your Personal Navigator. Look forward to meeting you.

My daughter is too old now to dress up (10yrs) but you could use the princess dresses for formal night or to take pictures with the princesses when there is a photo op. THe characters usually have photo ops in the main lobby. So if your girls are younger, definitely bring the princess dresses. I wish I could still make mine wear them.

This is my problem. I think the character photo ops would be cute but I want her in something more formal for semi-formal and formal nights because I really want awesome pictures! We haven't had 1 photo session since Asher's been born so I kinda figure this will be it for us since they'll hopefully be in good spirits and will smile and pose nicely.

Hello my fellow cruise friends,
I need some advise on on-line check in for WDW. We are going to travel to WDW immediately after our cruise. I hear that I can check in at WDW, 10 days before we arrive. So that would be Sept 2, right? Is it fairly easy to do the online check in? We went through a TA for our cruise and WDW trip, I have heard that using a TA will make it harder for online check in. Is that true? There are two families - one at WL and one at ASMo, can I check us both in? I know I should post this question on the other threads, but I wanted to ask my close friends :goodvibes first!

And BTW, I can't keep from dancing in my seat everytime I realize that I will be flying out to MCO in 7 days - that's less than 168 hours away!!!! :rotfl2:

I sent my dad the link to the Cape Canaveral webcam so he can watch us take off. I might watch tomorrow just so I can dream about next week.

Hi Hoagie Pie :wave2:
Can you please send me the link for the Cape Canaveral webcam?
That sounds like it would be fun to watch. :happytv:

:thanks:

Is anyone packing a princess dress for their daughters? I'm undecided if I should bring one/many but then again, it doesn't take up that much space . . . 7 days before we fly/8days before the cruise!!!!!

We have 3 packed so far:
Ariel dress from Bibbidi Bobbitt
Snow White
Alice

May add more dresses later.

We have packed so light so far we may end up loading more

Michael

We have Alice, Snow White, Minnie, Tinkerbell, and possibly Cinderella packed. Not sure when she is wearing them, but we will have them.

A mom after my own heart. Better to have them and not need them that want them and not have them.

We have reached 100 pages of Magical cruise chat.

Seems like a great reason to celebrate.

The last time we were on the ship the must have item was a YELLOW HIGHLIGHTER. An essential for marking the Disney Navigator's daily planning grids to keep the Family / Oceaneers Lab / Parent Only schedules straight.

It's awesome if Flubber aligns with Margarita Tasting :cool1:

We got a pack of 3 different color highlighters (Yellow, blue, and pink) and a free extra yellow highlighter. So we will have an extra in case we do alot of highlighting.

p.s. The things you learn from reading the DIS. We would have never thought of bringing highlighters on a cruise with out the expertise of the seasoned DIS cruisers sharing their knowledge.

Hi Irene :)
When I took my granddaughter on a Disney Cruise in 2005, she was five years old. She had two different princess dresses, a Minnie, and of course, a :tinker: Tinkerbell.
She loved putting them on and parading around the ship. Almost everyone stopped to compliment the "little princess". She was beaming.:lovestruc

Shannah is nine years old now and she says that she is "too old" to dress up this time. :(

So, my response to you is definitely take a princess dress (or more) for your three year old. She will be adorable! :flower3:

I am going to start packing this weekend. Hope to take care of both the DH and myself. Get the bulk of the children's stuff packed as well. And Yes we will be packing Sleeping Beauty costume. If I am really lucky might talk DS into taking his Peter Pan costume. Wish she hadn't outgrown her Tinkerbelle one. :(

As for the camera, I bought a new SD card. Being a scrapbooker I cannot miss a single shot on this vacation.

And got good news, the kindergarten teacher for my DD said not to worry about make-up work. Just snap a photo of Mickey and Minnie for her. CAN DO!

I am bringing my nice camera. If everyone wants I will shoot the picture (or set the camera up on the tripod ect.)

I have been reading again...was it ever decided if there would be a group photo for the DISers? As an avid scrapbooker, this would be AWESOME!

This time next week.... so excited to be able to say that! We'll be in FL and driving to the port, stopping for essentials along the way, then one sleep and on to Magic!

My goal for the weekend is to clean out suitcases (we just went to FL last weekend for work), go thru clothing needs and make a list of any shopping I need to do next week. I also decided to get my hair cut and colored tomorrow-- thrilled they had a last minute cancellation and could get me in.

We got our Stateroom # too! 6634-- a secret verandah room, so we're thrilled! Still no Palo options online, but will plan to go to Rockin Bar D on boarding and hope for the best.

DS and I have been looking at pics of Flounders and Oceaneer CLub on the DIS. He's day-time potty trained, but still wears a pull-up at night. Hoping the CMs will eval him and see if he can do OC instead of Flounders, as I think he'd be much happier with organized activities than with the nursery, the OC is more like his preschool.

Ravan-- that's great that the Kdg teacher didn't assign make-up work! I'm seriously dreading DS going to real school and all of those issues.

We don't have a Pan or Hook costume for DS, just mickey pirate hats pirate: for all of us. I've been looking at pirate costumes on ebay, but by the time I find one that ends soon enough and pay expedited shipping, I'm thinking I could just buy one at Downtown Disney early Saturday morning if we "have to have it"-- closest Disney store is 5 hours from us.

Can't wait to meet all the DISers a week from now! :thumbsup2

Thanks all for the welcome, and the Flounder's tip. We are still GTY and no docs yet, but that's to be expected, I guess. I still check everyday ;) Made our car rental reservations, now have to do hotels for night before and night after ship, and then maybe I can start the packing! Can't believe we set sail in 9 days!! :cool1:

Got our car reserved done TOO...one-way to DCL (MCO-Cape Canaveral, Fri/Sat) and OW back after the cruise (Sat/Sun). I still need to call DVC tomorrow and book Magical Express - Wed Airport to Animal Kingdom Villas and Friday back to the Airporrt to p/u the rental car.

I picked up passport cases today. It's feeling like we're close to ready. Too much packing still to do. It's just all stacked on and around the suitcases on the guest bed at the moment.

We carried multiple princess dresses on previous Disney cruises (now she's too big). I found that Princess dresses have multiple advantages.
  1. Very cute for matching photos with their favorite Princess aboard.
  2. Generally cost less that a stack of formals. Costco sometimes has Disney costumes in before our Sept cruises.
  3. But even more important...little girls dressed like princesses tend to act like little princesses and are so much more enjoyable at dinner :cloud9:

Sailing w/my sister ~ her first DCL cruise

Does anyone know a site for the decorations @ the door numbers?

What movies are showing on the Magic right now?

I am looking forward to this cruise ~ I need a break!
