you will never be able to park your car on the streets, you will need to find a garage...there are plenty of those, expensive but plentiful....

I am hoping to find a parking garage close to the pier. When you say expensive, how expensive? DH is hesitant about taking the kids into NYC. I told him people live in Manhattan with their kids. So, it can't be all that bad. Wish me luck on convincing him.:rolleyes1 - Jennifer

We can always count on you, Brack, to think of the really important stuff! :thumbsup2 Keep on DISin'. :surfweb: ;)

Remember this guy from the '60s? I need to change it to say "Keep On DISin'" :thumbsup2

I'm not sure about close to the pier, but my DSIL and DB went to NYC earlier this year or maybe end of last year and they actually parked their van in NJ at a garage or parking lot just across the bridge, and then took the subway in. He said they were able to see EVERY highlight NYC has in one day; he must have been BOOKING it!! :scared1: But I think he's right though about one thing; most of the key points are fairly close together, so you could probably take the subway into NYC and come out at ground zero, then take a taxi or walk or subway to the points you want to see.

We park in NJ, take the Ferry over, then the Free Shuttle Busses into town

:wave2: Hello All! All is well here in Texas.:thumbsup2 We are still planning our roadtrip for this June. We need to finalize plans. So, we can make the necessary hotel reservations. I may try and surprise DH with a few days in Ocean City, MD on the way to MA. We went there a few years ago and had fun on the boardwalk and playing at the beach. We had DS6 and DD4 with us then. They enjoyed it too.:cool1: So, it would be a nice surprise for them all. DS6 has to see the Statue of Liberty. DH wants to let him see it from a bridge on our way through NYC. But, I want to let DS6 see it close up. So, I want to take a ferry out to the statue and then to Ellis Island from Battery Park. However, I am having a difficult time figuring out where to park our car "safely" in Manhattan. Has anyone ever done this before? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

:tinker: - Jennifer

I drove into Manhattan once with a "local" friend. We parked my Saturn at a lot my friend was familiar with, it cost $25 for the day. I would recommend parking somewhere outside of Long Island, and taking public transportation in. It's safe, cheap, and reliable.

I was invited to stand up at my friend's wedding a couple of years later, so we made of trip of it wife and two oldest sons, 9 and 5 at the time. We flew out to La Guardia and spent four days in Manhattan at the Grand Hyatt right over Grand Central station. We saw Central Park, the Guggenhiem, the Intrepid, the Statue of Liberty by boat (no visitors at the time), Ground Zero, Empire State Building, Wall Street, and some others. We had a blast, and never once drove a vehicle. Between taxis, busses, and train, you can get anywhere you want. The Statue of Liberty / Long Island boat tour was great, we started on the Hudson, north of the Intrepid, and sailed around, down to the Statue, then back up under the Brooklyn Bridge on the East River. It was about 3 hours long. My 5 year old yelled out "I CAN SEE THE STATUE OF DELIVERY" when we got close :)

Where in NJ do you park? DS6 joked about wanting to take the subway. He may get his wish. Then again, spending the night in Manhattan might work out better. So, we can park the van in a hotel's garage. We'll see. - Jennifer

:lmao: :lmao: Brack, reminds me of a fun time we had way back when we were young marrieds. There were 4 of us couples - after a fun night of, um...partying, that went "trucking" into a restaurant. Dennis, of course, was leading the parade. :lmao: Don't know what the other folks in the restaurant thought as we "trucked" to our table behind the hostess, but we had fun! ;) :rotfl:

Hey all - it is me! I am sure by now you are thinking "who" LOL Just cking in! I am hoping Spring is here to stay here in Texas - we had another cold front along with a tornado last Friday - we are fine but those in Haltom city near Ft Worth saw the worst. I spent Friday night in a closet at one of my jewelry shows! Good thing I knew the gal having it!
Cannot wait til we hit the 6 month mark!
Have a great Monday!
