08 DEC 2007 - 7 Day Eastern Magic Part 2

When DS7 was in Public School last year, he would come home with at least two hours of homework each evening. I honestly felt bad for the kid, because he was at school all day and then had to come home and do more schoolwork. Homeschooling him this year has been so great!

Jennifer that's great. He's in grade 2 this year? We spent soooo much time last year tussling over homework, and this year it's so different. Not that we're homeschooling, but his school last year was dreadful, and dreadful for him--and I think by the time he got home with the regular homework and the stuff he didn't get finished, he was too fried to be productive. This year he's so much more relaxed AND confident that it's not a fight. And he has a great teacher, who tells everyone, if it's too much, if it's interfering with family life, don't sweat it. However it happens, glad your guy is having a good year.

Wendy, sorry Jasmine's still got that burden--my 10 yo dear niece is in the same boat. I think there's a rebellion brewing among her classmates' parents--but it seems so common these days. I do remember, and I feel guilty now that I am a parent, the way I used to load down my sr high English students. I remember them groaning "she thinks her subject is the only one we have..." and, well, no, but I was convinced mine was the only one worth their time!! I'm guessing we'll pay for that bad karma over the next several years...:rolleyes1

DS has never had a single thing to do for Homework since he started High school.. :confused3 He is a SR now..

The most they get is a book report once a year from something the read over the Summer

:coffee:

There is availabilty for brunch at palo right now!!!
Im trying to move my dates around so i checked, If any of you have parties of 2 who need a Palo brunch it appears to be open.

Hope this helps!

Aww c***. Ok, there are seven or eight pages between Emi's post and me checking, but heck, that's only what, 15 minutes? ;) I still have nothing for Palo. Pout. I need to try first thing in the AM, someone recommended that, and it makes sense. I am a triumphant booker of CRT, so I have to have confidence I'll crack the Palo nut!

OK, DS just informed me he is getting hungry so we are going to dinner.. :goodvibes

We went for Haircuts and I got my hair cut shorter then I thought I would.. It will hit me tomorrow when I go to wash it  It still fits in a pony tail but wow what a difference :scared:

Maybe I won't need a Hair Do for formal night after all... :confused3 Depends how much grows out by then..

That picture IS disturbing Bill. But, it gave me a laugh at the same time. I am just picturing that nun saying "Argggggggh!". :lmao:

- Jennifer

Most of my teaching was at Catholic schools, the first year one that was still run by nuns...somewhat different by the 80's, but still--! Dh (then df) came to an end of the year staff party and almost expired when Sister Helen, the principal, cut a serious rug with him on the dance floor. Don't let the habit fool you, there's some aaaarrrrgh left in some of those old girls. ;)

JoAnne - don't worry, I don't think you missed out. I looked right as Emi posted that and there wasn't anything available to me either. I think they just do it in rounds. Keep checking each day and see what happens. :)

As Angie has pointed out, as soon as people get confirmed for the private rooms, a lot of spaces are going to open up anyway. I'm sure you'll end up getting a spot! :flower3:

73 posts per day will get us over 10K before the cruise sails... :)

I think that we average more than that now. There were over 100 posts today between 2PM and 6PM. :surfweb:

Thanks for the encouragement, Julie! One of the reasons we moved from the 4 day to the 7 day is to find more opportunities for grown up time. But everyone says too we should be able to get it when we board, if not before. I just want to get all the "business" I can done before we get there, you know?

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I've just decided that if I get to go to Palo, fine... if not, that's fine too. DH doesn't care either way, and since he won't miss it if we don't get to go, then I'm not too bothered either. :)

I'm only trying for the dinner as it is. I'd like to do the brunch because of all the yummy seafood offerings, but DH doesn't like seafood very much. And, to be honest, I think we'd just feel like it was one more scheduled thing to do that we have to get "dressed up" for. He takes so little time away from the office that I'd like to have everything be as free and easy as possible.

it needs some work. :surfweb:

That's weird, Stacy. He seems to be doing well for himself, sounds like such a responsible young man, so I guess it's not a problem. But his school's definitely not the norm. :confused3

Hope you guys have a great time tonight!

.....We have CSI tonight :thumbsup2 so I may or may not be on later. :goodvibes

- Bill

I'm SO excited about that!!! BTW!! Did you hear Jorja Fox is LEAVING CSI??!!! I couldn't believe it!!!! She said she has other dreams that she wants to fulfill before she gets too old!! :scared1: :sad1:

OK, I'm finally settled in for the evening. Got soccer practice out of the way; it ended early because it got so dark. Dinner was leftovers again, some really good fried chicken and mashed potatoes. I just finished doing some paperwork for DDIL and the First Aid Squad, and I'm alone in the peace and quiet of my home office for a few minutes. While most of you will be watching CSI, I'll be glued to ER.

Shannan (DGD, age 7) is home schooled this year because she had a terrible time last year. She's extremely smart (takes after me, of course;)) and learns easily. However, last year she had a teacher who scared the daylights out of her to the point that she would wake up screaming in the middle of the night. After almost three months of this, she couldn't sleep at all. The school system wouldn't/couldn't help, and they suggested that we try home-schooling since she's just so much smarter than the rest of the kids, even in the gifted class she was in. Now she's doing really well--she reads everything she can find, she's doing math on a fifth grade level, and she's a happy, relaxed kid again with no more nightmares.

As far as drop and dash--I suspect our style will be more of a "drop and hobble slowly away", so just pretend that you don't see us, alright?

Beth

I've been trying to enter my McDonalds Monoply codes online but their website is experiencing extreme difficulty.

I had an upsized meal from them tonight so I could get the codes. :rolleyes1
