08/08/07 Well, Olbia Monkey's Uncle! We're cruisin' on the 10nt Med Cruise!

What are they giving Castaway members this summer in the Medi? I want to avoid packing as much excess as possible!!!!

Experienced Magicers: Do you feel just as secure with the childcare as in past years in the -closer to home - ports?

Anyone do excursions in Palermo?: Particular have reviews on:
A Day at the Farm - is it worth it?
or the Selinunte - Pantheon type excursion? Worth it? Tedious?

Thanks !!!!!!!!

Hi All:

We are booked for the Aug 08 10-day Med cruise and the 14-day Repo cruise back to Florida. We are a family of 3 including myself, DW and DS (9). We are staying on Deck 8 somewhere - maybe the linen closet this time - who cares, we're booked!

Flying into Barcelona 2 days early so we can lose the jet-lag and see the sights before the cruise starts. Only 3 weeks until we jump the Pond. This is our first time doing B2B cruises on DCL. We always hate when it is time to leave the ship!

My son is already looking forward to making new friends for the trip!
Anyone else with boys on board?

Dennis

Welcome to the group! As the official list keeper, I will add you to the list of cruisers. Follow the link on page one post 1. There is some good information there including a list with the children's ages and a list of cruisers with their children's ages. There are several boys going.

Donna -

Please add us to the "On Their Own" excursion lists for Palermo, Naples, Rome, La Spezia and Villefranche, as we are doing private tours in each of these ports:

Perdita&Pongo - Nancy, DH David, DD10, DD4, DGM, DAunt

You can also list my DH and I for DCL's "Evening Casino" excursion in Villefranche:

Perdita&Pongo - Nancy, DH David

Thank you so much for being the listkeeper! :worship:

I have made the changes to the list.

I am making progress on moving my staterooms. So far I have gotten one moved to, what I feel is, a much better location. I call DCL several times a day, as instructed by a supervisor at DCL, and yesterday was able to move one of the cabins to 2620. I will not give up, but if I am not successful, my mother and daughter have agreed to stay in 2042 because my mother is hard of hearing and my daughter doesn't seem to think she will notice any noise.

I hope everyone is winding down on their plans. We leave three weeks from yesterday.

Hi Dennis!

We are also doing the B2B cruises! We arrive at BCN on 08 AUG and take Disney transportation to the ship. After the repo cruise, we're headed to the House of Mouse for almost another week ... I think I'm more excited than my boys! Oh yes, we are 5 in the family: John (Dad), Jack (14), Will (12), and Tom (10). My boys are very much looking forward to meeting some new buds on this trip.

Deb

:cool1: Just back from the beach and was wondering if anyone has received their DOCS ?? Just got through reading all the posts from last week.

Clueless San Fran... That's great that you want to do Pompeii with us ! Glad to see we'll have some boys on the excursion ! My Grandson is 11. Also, thanks for the taxi and train info for Naples. Hopefully, everything will go smooth with no strikes.

pclare.... That's great that you are also interested in the train trip to Pompeii. How much does your daughter charge for the guided tour ?? :)

So it looks like we have 5 families going to Pompeii on our own :

Scrapycruiser...Gina, Bruce, Jack ( 11) 6630
d3boyz...........Deb, John, Jack (14), Will (12) , Tom (10)
Vailcruiser.......Jocelyne, Chris, Mariah (7) 6583
Clueless SanFran.. Lien, Robert, DD 12, DS 10 2077
pclare..............Pauline, DH, DS 13, DD8 7054

Bruce,Jack and I will either take the train back to Naples after our tour of Pompeii or take the train to Sorrento and take the hydrofoil back. It's very tempting to go back to the ship and relax by the pool !!

:grouphug: GINA

Dennis, Hi ! Happy to see another boy! We'll have our Grandson, Jack who will be 11 in Sept. We've been at the beach for a week and am glad to get back and see more families coming on board. From reading the other threads, I think we've got the best group !! ;) .
We'll be receiving our DOCS soon and then it'll be all official !! Can't wait !!

:grouphug: GINA

Welcome back Gina. I hope you enjoyed the beach. It looks like several of you are doing a good job of connecting to do some of the ports on your own and I think that is wonderful. Isn't this a great forum to better prepare for the trip?

Hi Deb:

Very nice to hear from you. We are so glad there will be other boys on these cruises. Funny, but my wife is Deb too. And, we're thinking of hitting WDW after we get back to Florida. Deja Vu...

Dennis

For Dukenukem, (us)DH name is Dennis, DW (me) is Deb and our son is Daniel who is 9 going on 12 in sixth grade. We are called the 3 D's. We're in the Roy Disney (8530) suite for the last 10 day med cruise and are doing the repo cruise, as well. We are thinking of going to Mickey World in Fla, for a week, when we arrive back home. Son is homeschooled, so I don't have to worry about school dates. No pressure.
We are in late seating for both cruises, much easier to get ready for dinner plus we have already seen the shows several times. (6th and 7th cruise in two years.) Our son always eats with us. Trouble is most of the 8-12 year olds are in the early seating, is that correct?
I am disappointed that the semi-formal night is on the same night as the Monte Carlo casino night, don't think there is time to do both, might have to switch to an early dinner for that night, so that we can eat and get out to the casino. The Grand Casino is really something to see, even if you don't gamble. It was the casino featured in the James Bond movies. Very very fancy and beautiful.
Not sure what excursions to do yet as they all seem a bit boring for kids.Too much history, too much walking (for kids) and I don't think my son will be dazzled (translation....care one whit) by the churches and will sleep thru any motor coach rides of scenery. Catacombs are not really for the under teenage set as they might cause nightmares. Seeing just the outsides of castles are not quite the same thing as exploring them. Have to be 21 to go to the vinyards, so if we want to go, son has to stay on the ship. I really do wish they had geared the excursions to be a little bit more child friendly. There was alot for the adults but seems a bit lacking on the child side.
As I lived in Nice and the south of France for a few years, I will be striking out on my own in France.(Am fluent in French) I am looking forward to buying some cheese, wine and pastry and having a picnic. I heard that the ship will not let you bring wine on board, is that so? Also, I'm going to have a real French lunch at a bistro for several hours and then maybe go clothes shopping for me.
Anyone know how the soap factory tour is? I'll probably buy my own soap downtown.
I would also like to buy some gold bracelets in Italy and do lunch there as well. Then it will be off to buy kids clothes. I buy Italian in the states and pay a fortune, better to buy them at the source. Any suggestions for Italy?
Has anyone heard what the weather will be like? Hot in the day and chilly at night? Right now it is 118 degrees here in Vegas, so anything less will be welcome. It might seem down right cold at 80 :)
I would like to meet all the scrapbookers out there and am bringing several kits to do on the repo cruise. I have several different Disney mini-books that are being completed and will bring them.
Well, later, :)) Deb

Your pictures were fabulous and it looks like you had tons of fun. I really enjoyed them. Thank you for sharing them. We will be going to some of the same places and it was really interresting to see what was upcoming. Thanks again. :)) Deb

Donna - Regarding the gift exchange...and forgive me, I am a novice! Let me know if I've got it right...For those on your "gift exchange list".

We bring enough gifts for each stateroom
We place the gifts at the door and for those that have "fish extenders" - in the pocket(s).

My question is - when do we hand out the gifts? Also, can you please confirm # of staterooms - want to be sure I don't make a mistake.

Thanks so much..

Jill

Hi Nordik,

Here is an update from me,

My wife and I will be staying at the Grand Marina hotel 8/18 - 8/20

We will be dining at Palo 8/16,

I will get you the shore excursion info as soon as DCL's website isn't super slow.

James

Rat-a-too-ee, welcome to the board, my wife 27 and myself 27 also went on a 3 night DCL cruise in 2004. We are very excited about this trip. We are doing a little mini Disney trip to get us even more excited about our cruise next weekend 7/21 - 7/24 to Disneyland. We are driving down since we live 5 hours away. For my wifes bday.

I can't wait to get my travel docs. I will be really excited then. My wife has 5 books she has been reading on spain, france, italy, and DCL cruise to the Med. There is already a book out about it!

I will try to convince my wife to meet up with everyone on the meetup date. We'll see what happens!

23 more days!

Welcome to everyone new...and welcome back scrappycruiser - we missed you!!!! Sounds like you had a great beach vaca and well relaxed for our journey! Well we are packed and weighed - just two pairs of sandals need to be added. :goodvibes

Did any DVC members receive a message from DCL about airport transfers? I am not tickled by the message they left, seeing that every time I call DCL they tell me I have to go through DVC - even for hotel names, hence why we did the hotel and taxi on our own. I called about our final documents and they said to expect them a week before, but if I needed to change my address to call DVC. Anyway, Gina the short answer is they told me to expect the final documents 7-10 days before the cruise and if you registered on-line all you basically receive is luggage tags. :rolleyes1

It is almost time:boat: Have a great night!
