06/08/08 Magic And Mickey To Mexico!!!

I read on the main Cruise Boards that our sailaway time will be earlier and therefore, our lifeboat drill will also be earlier. I think they'd said the lifeboat drill will now be at 3:00.

That also means that for the people flying in on the morning of the cruise, they have less time now to get to port and get checked in.

But I'd like to leave the DIS Meet as it stands...regardless of the time on the clock.
Meeting right after the lifeboat drill on Deck 10...PORT side. I may have said starboard before. PORT is where we need to be if we don't want to stare at the terminal.

Can you post a link for that thread? I was hoping to fit in an exfoliating/massage treatment that first day. I read before that it was cheaper on the first day and would like to get rid of all that dead skin so I can get a nice tan. :rotfl: I'm trying to map out our first day on the ship. DH can take the boys exploring on the ship while I indulge myself  but want to make sure I make the meet.

I think meeting right after the lifeboat drill on starboard side is a good plan, regardless of the time change.

Stacey, I noticed our DS's were close in age. Does your DS like the arcade? My DS loves video games and arcades, ha! Maybe he and my DS can meet at our meet after the lifeboat drill.

See if you can copy this one....if not, I'll e-mail it to you or we can figure out a different way to do it.

Got it! Thanks, it should be perfect!

Earlier? Great I am glad I am flying in the day before.

I think deck 10, port side is perfect. My husband and I are trying to get some t-shirts made for our family for sail away. I think we will use the lime green mickey wearing a cowboy hat :) we are from Texas after all.

That sounds cute! No way will I get Jared to wear a matching shirt with me. That's just not cool for a teenager.

He does like the arcade, but he also just likes to hang out. He doesn't spend a lot of time at the Stack. He said he'd like to meet your son at the sailaway. He'll have WVMD's DD and her friend with him, I'm sure.

I've been awake since 3:30, too much on my mind, so decided I might as well get up and get something done.

I don't think my DS knows quite what he'll do. We don't know what to expect. It's nice that your son and WVMD's DD are vetran cruisers and know what they like! I'm not quite sure what to expect either. Do you leave notes in your cabin for where you are in case your DS wants to catch up with you? When we cruised DCL before, it was only the 3 night and kids were young enough to be in the kids programs so they had the pagers if they wanted to catch up with us.

I'm sure that the three of them and the others will form quite the crowd.... LOL...

I'm just a little nervous about our flights (Stacey, Don't tell Frances) - we have to fly in the morning of the cruise since Lauren has her big dance recital the night before. We get in to LAX around 1130 after connecting in Phoenix......

My 15yo DD would probably like to meet this group as well. This is her first time cruising as a teenager. She was 12 last time and just hung out with me most of the time.

Absolutely.... Lauren has cruised 6 times and her friend Emily has cruised 3 times - this is her 2nd trip with us....

If you want to drop me a PM - I will give you Lauren's email and I can pass on your daughters...

I put a magnetic Post-It & a pen or pencil on the inside of the stateroom door....that way, we don't wander the room looking for notes. One time, our concierge left us notes with the Post-It pad!!

Frances already told me that she's nervous about it!

You could always rent a car in Phoenix and drive the rest of the way over...straight to port. Would take about 3.5 hours........

Can you switch your ticket (from PHX to LAX) so that you fly directly into Long Beach?

I spent some time on regular DCL boards. While reading, I found a thread about the teen club (The Stack). I guess I found out there is some behavior that goes on in the club that I didn't like. I'm taking it with a grain of salt though and not getting too bent out of shape (or at least trying not to, I'm probably more overprotective than I should be). What I'm going to take away from it is that I need to talk to my son about what I've read. I planned to have a talk with him about remembering what we've taught him, etc., but now can just add a little more to that. Being we haven't cruised with him as a teen, I don't know how much time he'll spend in there anyway, so I'm not getting worried about it. It sounds like unwanted behaviors increased in The Stack as the night wore on.

For those of you who have cruised DCL before with older kids (teens), how late did you let your kids stay out? My oldest son was 11 on last cruise and we went and got him at 11:00 each night, which was too early for him, ha, but we thought it was reasonable! :rotfl: He never stayed up that late at home.

Again, I'm targeting the cruisers with teens. Do you have a family rule about your kids eating supper with you? When we cruised the 3 night, our kids (7 and 11 at the time) went with us to supper the first night and were so anxious to get to the kids clubs they were miserable! Being we were on such a short cruise, we didn't make them come the next two nights. We did have a lot of family time before the cruise being we were at WDW, so we figured it was o.k. to have less on the cruise being it was so short. At home, we eat supper together each night. I'm kind of torn as to what options to give them for suppers, being we're doing the 7 night. We have late seating. I'm guessing we'll try to sleep late in the mornings. Just hang out together before lunch and I know we'll eat lunch together each day and they'll go with us on excursions. Just curious to hear about your experiences if anyone is willing to share. Let's please remember to be nonjudgemental. That thread on The Stack got pretty harsh sometimes. I think this thread has been really fun and I look forward to meeting you all and don't want to start anything, I'm just looking for your experiences to help guide me. Also, I think I'm starting to stress about everything...:scared1:

Awesome idea! I just put it on my packing list. It's been really fun gaining from your cruise experience.

My two are older now...when they were younger, they stayed with us the whole time. On the last couple of cruises, they were 16-17 and 13-14....and except for dinner and excursions, we basically never saw them unless we passed them in the hall somewhere.
Neither of them spent much time in the Stack, they usually found their own group of friends to "hang with" on the first day or two, and after that, they'd find a spot that they liked to just sit and talk, or else they'd go to the movies, find something going on that they wanted to see...swim, or whatever. On the night before a day at sea, we don't have a rule about what time to come in...but they end up being bored before midnight and come back on their own. On a night before an excursion, they are told that they need to come get some sleep...if they don't we'll drag them out of bed in the morning regardless of how little sleep they've had.
We've not had any problems with any kind of sexual activity in the Stack...the worst was a group of older teen boys who thought it was funny to throw a deck chair overboard. Of course they got in trouble for that and weren't allowed back.

I don't know...we just really have never had much trouble with the kids. But their Dad (The Enforcer) was always with us....it may be different this time, with just me and Jared.

Okay....before Virgil has a chance to rat me out....there WAS that ONE time.......DD "lost" her room key and slept in the hall. We were in the far aft...handicap Cat 3...private hallway....but she had two sons of our DIS friends who "volunteered" to guard her all night. Sometime during the night, our room steward covered them with blankets and left pillows.
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
My husband was furious....I thought it was kind of funny.

It's only about 30 minutes to the Port - we get in at 1130 - and Nick and Kristin will already be there. If we have any problems in PHX - we can always switch to another flight - as long as we're on board by 230 we should be ok.....

Of course our DIS friends may have to crowd the gangway and prevent them from leaving without us.... :rotfl:
