06/08/08 Magic And Mickey To Mexico!!!

I called DCL today in hopes of getting a cabin number assigned and guess what they told me there is a chance I might not be assigned a room until the day we board, as I am in a GTY 6 :scared1: !! What? I thought that we would get someting with our cruise documents approximately 30 days prior, she replied "the Mexican Riveria is very popular and that is the reason for this. " So can anyone explain to me exactly how this GTY works? Why do they have this?

And more importantly how will I get all of my dis buddies my room number before we go? I really want to participate in teh fish extender treats?:confused3

For anyone that hasn't booked a Palo ressie -- they just opened up a slot at 7:30pm on Day 5. It's also the night of the pirate party. Just a heads up! :)

I'm also a GTY, so I don't have a room number either yet. :P

If for some reason you don't find out your room number until you get on the ship, we won't be starting the FE gifts until the 2nd day (at sea day) so you can drop your gift, or even just a note, in our FE's, letting us know your room number.
We'll figure out how to exchange room numbers before we go.

I think your room number will show up on DCL's website in your reservation most likely 2 weeks before we cruise.
They wait on making assignments because they end up filling the ship at the last minute with people who want lower categories, and they will start upgrading the mid categories in able to do so. They also have to "balance" the ship....according to the number of people in each lifeboat section, and that takes time....but they don't do it until they are at or near capacity.
Make sense?

Do you want to split the job? I'd be happy to do either. Let me know. I know how much fun it can be to create something with the die cut machine (don't we love our toys:love: ), so if you want to do the poster, my feelings will not be hurt. I can do whatever you need.

41 days, 2 hours, 49 minutes, and 2 seconds until boarding! :dance3:

Do you want to do the poster and I'll do the name tags?

What's everyone wearing for pirate night? We were originally going to go with full pirate dress but I think we have decided to just to pirate t-shirts.

I'm still up in the air about the fish extenders. I was glancing through an Oriental Trading company catalog last night and it would be easy to order a bunch of stuff from there. I will see what I can come up with this weekend.

I have a skirt and top that look sort of "gypsy-ish" that I'll wear for Pirate night. Since it's only my son and I, I have to drag my own luggage so I don't want to be overloaded with a costume. I think Megan said she and Dave were wearing costumes. I'll just add the bandana they give us to mine somehow.

We are going to do the full pirate costumes. We chose to be pirates for Halloween because we knew we were going to go on this cruise. My DD is so excited, she even wants to bring her sword (not sure about that yet, even though it is soft plastic). I even got my usually less-than-enthusiastic DH to get a really cool Capt. Jack costume. It should be fun!

Lorie, it shouldn't be a problem with her sword...they sell them onboard..so it seems that it would be okay to bring one.

:yay: Great idea about getting y'all my room number. Thanks! Your explaination of how GTY works clears it up...so maybe I will get an upgrade???

pirate: Now about pirate night? Not sure, I saw a blouse today at the store that could do the trick, but I need to go this weekend and try it on. My husband is not sure if he just wants a t-shirt or something a bit fancier. The kids are good sports so whatever I find between now and then I know they will love. What I do know is I better get on the ball and start some shopping:banana:

Hi guys! Well this weekend I plan on shopping for FE treats. So have we decided how we are going to to do this? I say small gifts each night of the cruise and label who the gift is from. What do you think?

This is going to be fun I am really getting excited, we are almost there:yay:!!!!!:dance3:

oops.. one more question, sorry this is my first time doing this. Do I purchase a gift for each person in each party? And should our FE have a pockect for each of us? :confused3

Oh, yeah I will be getting bubbles for all for the sail away party.. how are the signs and name tags coming along?

Hey guys!!! I have been moved from GTY 6 to stateroom 7040!! Port side, plexiglass:cool1: It is starting to feel real!! One question though. I have read on many stateroom reviews that 7040 is a connecting room..so.. can I be moved again? Wonder if I will be able to hear the passengers in the next room?

Who cares I have a stateroom:cheer2:

We've had connecting before, and haven't heard anything. If you want to, you can roll a towel along the floor under the door for a little extra insurance of no noise. But again, we've not found it to be a problem.

Megan and I decided that we'd put the FE gifts into small snack bags (ziplock) and put a label on them, letting you all know they're from us.
Some people make nice little tags to attach, but we're both feeling the crunch of the wedding approaching, so we're doing it the easy way.

We have enough of some items that each person in the family will get one, or at least each kid....but with most, it's one per family. Otherwise, it would be way too much to pack....both coming and going.

And we'll either go around and put them in the FE's late at night or early in the morning. Most likely late at night, since I'm not a morning person, and most days we're headed out for port anyway.

I just realized the other day that my room is at the very end of the hall (aft) right next to the aft public open deck. I wonder if I should worry more about things being taken from my FE? At least I don't have to worry about my "wide" Mickey FE sticking out into the hallway!

Maybe I should hang a sign on my FE....an ugly skull and crossbones that says "poison"....:rotfl:

Happy Saturday Everyone! I too am working on some FE treats. It is so much fun! I am going to start working on the meet & greet poster. Does anyone have any links to a DIS logo that I could set on a lime green background?

Anyhoo, I am off to a scooter rally.:moped: Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day in Sonoma County... highs of 74. I love spring!

Have a wonderful weekend!

See if you can copy this one....if not, I'll e-mail it to you or we can figure out a different way to do it.

When looking at the list to buy goodies for the FE's, I see some groups are really large. I'm guessing they have more than one cabin unless they are in a suite. Right now there are 10 other groups besides myself (our family of 3 is just in one cabin), but do I need to buy more than 10 gifts if they have two cabins for the group? I would think so, so can those with a large group let us know how many cabins so I can have an idea how many little things to pick up?

I started looking at getting little things for the kids for each day but there are over 20 kids, so I don't think that will happen (22 kids X 6 days...:sad2: I don't have time or money to get 132 gifts...)! So, I'm going to just plan one gift per cabin for each of the 6 days.

Not to mention the packing space, Michelle!

I'm doing on eitem per cabin, unless I have extras of something I know kids will enjoy.

We have two cabins....7638 for my son Jared and I
and 7628 for Megan and Dave.

I was just digging through my disney stash. (I scrapbook with a group of disney-a-holics and we give away fun little things at our scrap nights) and I found some bags I forgot about. They are like a lunch bag size and made out of kind of plastic. They have a handle. They are red with white polka dots, kinda disney-ish. I bought 15 of them on clearance after Christmas. I decided I'm just going to use that vs. a fish extender. If anyone else is running out of time and energy and would like me to bring one for them to use, I'd be happy to do so. Just let me know. I could give them to you at our meet after the sail away party.

I read on the main Cruise Boards that our sailaway time will be earlier and therefore, our lifeboat drill will also be earlier. I think they'd said the lifeboat drill will now be at 3:00.

That also means that for the people flying in on the morning of the cruise, they have less time now to get to port and get checked in.

But I'd like to leave the DIS Meet as it stands...regardless of the time on the clock.
Meeting right after the lifeboat drill on Deck 10...PORT side. I may have said starboard before. PORT is where we need to be if we don't want to stare at the terminal.
