06/08/08 Magic And Mickey To Mexico!!!

Qucik question... Does anyone have any idea why there are so few of us sailing on June 8th?? I have been doing some research and do you think "June Gloom" has something to do with it?

Sorry but what is june gloom:confused: ?? I am surprised that not many on the dis boards are going, since the ship is already 89% sold out...and that was from last weeks quote. :confused3 We personally think early June is great...Kids are out of school, and it isn't SUPER DUPER hot in Mexico yet. :cloud9: and add to the fact that we don't have to fly across country is a HUGE bonus. :goodvibes

Last time we did the Mexican Riviera with Disney, there just weren't very many people who knew about the DIS Boards. There were a lot of people from the West Coast on the cruise, and I don't know if they just don't know as much about the DIS or what.....

I was wondering about "June Gloom" too. I have never heard that term.

I don't know why there are so few people on the June 8th sailing. When I was making reservations, those first few weeks were a little cheaper. It seems like it went up a little with the June 15th sailing. You would think that the little bit of savings would make June 8th more attractive.

I think what the 'thing' is... is that most of us from the west coast typically cruise from either California or Texas. It cost SOOO much to add air flight to Flordia to leave from there. So when the ship is on our side LOTS of folks take advantage of it, and most of them have NEVER been on DCL since they normally leave from the East Coast. Did all of that make sense? :rotfl2:

:goodvibes :goodvibes Hope you all are enjoying your Thursday. Have a nice afternoon. Big group :grouphug:

Hello all!!

Long time since I have posted. We are now making arrangements for a DL stay after the cruise. DD last day of school is 6/6 so we can't do a pre-cruise stay. DD school district might be going on strike and if that happens, depending on the length of the strike, we may have to cancel (because of finals) and just make this a DL/ southern Cal. trip.

I noticed this morning on the cruise website that cat. 4 is now a GTY. Ship is getting a little fuller....we are wait listed for a suite but who knows- I am just happy to be going and that I booked so early. A cat 4 has gone up $2200 since then!!!

Also, DD (17) is looking for someone to hang out with at the Teen Club so as the cruise gets closer, she would like to email, IM, whatever they call it...just to get to know someone.

Have a great weekend all!!!

Laura

Sorry ot took so long to reply, regular life has been busy!!!! , "June Gloom" is how the locals describe the Cali. weather during the month. It is usually cooler and cloudy with alot of rain. My family has been to Disneyland during the first week of June twice and yep it rained throughout our trip. I was reading some of the trip reports and various posts and quite a few individuals who sailed the last time out of Cali. revealed they would wait until early August to sail because of the weather leaving Californina and the first day at sea. That is why I am concerned. It seems that there should be more repeat cruisers at this time. :confused3 None the less we will be there having a great time rain or not. Sail away party indoors or out:banana:

Sorry just a quick heads up. I work for the federal government, type all day and get my butt chewed off if I have a typo. So here amongst friends I just type and **** spell check, grammer ect....

:hippie: Just stopping by to wish you all a great Saturday. Dh is taking me and the kids out to breakfast, then we are taking the kids to a birthday party at Toys-r-us, then for a few hours we have a sitter coming over so Dh and I can go on a date and spend some adlut time together :goodvibes some shopping and out for an early dinner. :thumbsup2 Tomorrow is church, and chores :rotfl: our typical Sunday routine.

Hope you all enjoy your Saturday. Big group :grouphug:

Heading out to the college footbal game!! GO MINERS!!! I am from El Paso, yes the "Glory Road" town and Miner sports are a regular activity for my family. This morning we did the typical saturday stuff, my 8 year-old son is playing his first year of flag football.... and YES!!! He made his 1st touchdown :cheer2: Have a great saturday and I will talk to all of you on Sunday!!

Evening All!

We booked our DL portion of the trip. We will be staying at the Paradise Pier. I really wanted the Grand Californian but I just can't justify another $1000 for this trip when we will be in WDW 2 months after that for a grand gathering. We originally booked POFQ for that trip but now we upgraded to the Poly- My favorite!!!

As a side note, friends of our were thinking about coming along on this cruise and were looking at several categories, many are on a GTY now!!!

Hopefully more will join us on this thread as it gets closer to cruise time.

Have a Good Evening!!!

Go Steelers!!!!!!

Sorry it's been so long. This surgery has really knocked me for a loop. Then, oldest DD announced her engagement....and they'd chosen JUNE 7 for their wedding!! I don't think so!! Thank heavens, they decided to settle for May 31st....in exchange for a nice Honeymoon Cruise to the Mexican Riviera on June 8th!! LOL

So I gave up my mid-ship Cat 3 for a Cat 5 for myself, DH and DS, and then got the soon to be newlyweds a Cat 7 Navigator's Verandah. It all worked out perfectly, and some lucky person who was waitlisted for a suite had their dream come true. I feel good.

My cast comes off and stitches out on Monday, and then the walking cast goes on for 3 weeks. I'm REALLY looking forward to Monday!!

Hope to stay more caught up, once I can get out here to the computer on my own.....no more wheelchair!!

Yeah for Monday party: I know what its like BEGGING to be in a walking cast. One summer I broke my tiba and my fiba was in a full length...from the tips of my toes to my extreme upper theigh cast for 7 months, then a half cast for 4months then a walking one for 1 month. I remember thinking... Oh my gosh at least now I can scratch my itch's without a wire hanger. :rotfl: Let us know how it goes. Thinking positive thoughts for you.

OMGosh Rebecca!! I swear, I promise...I will NEVER ever whine about my mere 6 weeks in a cast again!!

The bad news is that if this surgery is successful, we will repeat the procedure on the other foot/leg. I'll have some pretty ugly scars by the time we all meet...but oh well, I guess they'll add character on Pirate night!! pirate:

I was just reading back and see that sugarplumsmom (Laura) was waiting for a suite......I hope, I hope that her family got mine!!!

I wish it was me but I don't think so- at least I haven't heard anything....it's ok, right now we are still happy to be going. DD school teachers are still thinking of striking and if that happens, we will have to cancel because the school year will get extended:sad2: Right now it's a waiting game......

Hope everyone is having a good afternoon.

Hope you are feeling a little better justmeandstace!!!!

Well, it turned out that I did get the cast off on the 1st, but my incision wasn't healing (it still isn't, in fact) so they put me in an "Air Cast" and was told two more weeks of no weight bearing...for a total of 5 weeks.....
Ran into a few problems and landed in the ER.....finally saw my surgeon on this past Thursday and now have permission to finally take "baby steps" around the house and to start therapy. I still can't really do a whole lot of walking until after we see how therapy goes, and we're still waiting for the incision to close. It feels never ending.
But my first therapy session is on Tuesday. Part of me is looking forward to it (the part that really wants to hurry up and be normal again) and part of me is not....(the part that knows it's going to hurt and I'm a big baby!)

I'd thought with all this "down time" I'd be able to research ports, think about excursions, etc...and instead don't seem to be able to remember my own name half the time!

I just need to get to a really good place as far as my walking goes....I am going to go spend 10 days with my parents, helping my Dad recover from surgery. I leave on the 28th....so I really, REALLY need to be walking!

Is anyone out there?? :confused3 I know we are all super busy :laundy: but I miss seeing post from all of us. :flower3: How is everyone doing, the flu  has been going on around here...our girls were out of school for over one week. :scared1:

How is everyone doing with all their pre-cruise plans? We still haven't decided if we are going to stay at DW or not...It is ALOT of extra $$;s :guilty: and just not sure if it is worth it or not. :confused3: The air fares are still not out yet either :upsidedow :upsidedow but hopefully they should come out in December. :thumbsup2 Well, I hope to hear from you all soon, I am off to the Halloween store to pick up some princess's princess: gloves for my 8 year old. Have a great Tuesday. :goodvibes

I'm back from my visit to Nebraska. My Dad's surgery went well.

I'm up and walking quite a bit, still don't have a lot of stamina. And the incision is still not closed all the way. It's been 2 months and now I'm beginning to wonder. We have a cruise in December and I really, really want to be able to walk on the beaches and snorkel. Even if the thing isn't healed, I'll figure out a way.

Haven't had a chance to do much planning yet for OUR cruise. I have a pretty good idea (I think) of what we want to do....now I just need to finish paying for it all. Just a minor detail. ;)

Can't believe Thanksgiving is next week. I still have no idea what we're going to do. Eat turkey, I guess. But it won't be one of my more stellar meals! :rotfl:
