What is the feasibility, if the cabin is cramped with our 3 large pieces of baggage (two adults, one 11 yr old girl), of putting a closed or open bag, or even clothes (alone, outside the piece of baggage) on the balcony.

What I am asking is whether the bag or the clothing would be drenched by the sea water, and/or rain, and/or buffeted by the wind, or exposed to some other elements?

We'll be on the July 28th cruise and were wondering the same thing. I know it will be hotter by then, but is it feasible to dry things on the balcony.

We will be doing the 10 night 18/07 cruise and are looking for some information on the excursion Create Your Own Perfume in Villefranche as one report I have read states that it is not worth the money and not exactly as described by DCL. Any other comments would be appreciated as I don't want my DD(11) to be disappointed by this.

Thanks

It is not a good idea to ever leave anything of a flammable nature (clothing, towels, etc) on the balcony. First of all...due to sea conditions or weather, they may not dry. But more importantly, anything like that becomes a fire hazard and a fire at sea is the WORST! (one cruiseship last year - not Disney- had a fire which started on a balcony when someone threw their cigarette overboard, the wind caught it and it landed on someone's bathing suit. We've put our bathing suits out to dry when we've been sitting out but never leave them out on the balcony.

Most ships ask that you not bring travel irons for the same reason. You forget to unplug them and they become a safety issue.

Just not worth it to risk the lives of so many people!

Happy sailing!

Good point! Never gave that a thought!

We have always stored our empty luggage under our mattress. There is a pretty big space under the bed that you can access by picking up the mattress. We learned that a couple of years ago on the DIS boards...

I generally pack one of those pop-up laundry baskets (that folds flat for packing), and keep it in the closet. I get them from Target. My last cruise I found the whole laundry scene to be a bigger pain than I remembered in the past, though, so this time I am going to try to pack us (me, DH, DS14, DS 11, and DD9) with the intention of doing no laundry. Wish me luck!

Here's another storage pearl: bring one of those over the door shoe bags (also from Target). We put it over one of the bathroom doors. You can use them to store suntan lotion, nail clippers, hand sanitizer, pens, etc. It keeps the counters in your bathroom a bit more clear. Try to get a transparent one.

Others have already mentioned the fire hazard, but didn't really answer your question about your things getting wet.

The answer is, they probably will ...not wet, wet, but damp. They will also get "salty." On the May 26 cruise, we had great weather, so we left our verandah door open most all the time. For the first day or so I couldn't figure out why my laptop keyboard always felt so gritty LOL It was salt from having the door open.

So, my advice is not to leave anything (not even a book) out on the verandah.

You do know, don't you, that you can lift the bed up and store your suitcases under the bed. We did this with all four of our suitcases (2 large, 2 roll-aboards) without any problem at all.

Another thing is if you want to hang anything there is a clothes line in the bathroom (in the shower) to hang things on - it is ok but will sag with a lot of things. Of course this doesn't help if someone is using the shower. :rotfl2:

Does anyone know where you pick up Disney's Barcelona tours?

We're arriving in Barcelona at 7:30 AM and we booked a 1:45 PM tour (Flamenco and Tapas). Does anyone know where we'll pick up the tour? (On board the ship, at the dock, etc.) Has anyone gone on it?

Yeah, it's tight, but we're leaving on a 10AM flight after the cruise, so it's our only chance.

Thanks in advance!

Well, I called DCL and spoke with a supervisor two days ago, she said she sent an email to the excursion coordinator for that particular excursion and this was the info: I had booked for myself and two DD's, ages 16 and 12. I asked if they would get perfume themselves or be considered children even though I had to pay adult prices for their excursion. The response was that we would each get to make our own.

However, after reading another report on the boards, I thinking of cancelling. The report didn't sound like it's very personalized, limited scent choices for mixing and not necessarily scents I would like. Also mentioned in the review was that the bottle was 50ml vice the 100ml advertised. All in all, I think I"m just going to head to town to shop around there. Just my opinion.

We did Villefranche on our own and took the train to Nice then the bus from Nice to Eze. We went to the Galimard perfumarie and had a free "tour." Very basic and brief, but in english and fairly interesting. We e-mailed them for information prior to the cruise as I thought they had a make your own perfume tour also. Apparently the make your own perfume is at the factory in Grasse, not Eze. They did send us a 10% off coupon and at the shop in Eze they had a nice box of 6 perfumes (of your choice, from many selections, including men's fragrances) for 53E and they sent us a 10% off coupon so it was 48E and they gave us 4 little soaps in boxes as a gift. Each bottle is 15ml and it is actual perfume so should last us quite a while. It worked out for us as there was some scents for DD, DH and me. They also included little drawstring bags that would hold 1 bottle if you wanted to give them as gifts. In retrospect I wish I would have gotten 2 boxes and done that for gifts as they were nice and small and light as opposed to a bottle of olive oil!

On our last cruise we had 4 pieces of luggage plus everyone had a carry on bag. We had a fold-up stroller & a carseat and it all fit in a category 6. We did have to make some adjustments. Only one of our suitcases fit under the bed. Then, one of our suitcases fit inside the other one. So we stacked the remaining three on one side of the closet and used the other side for clothes. We put the carseat on top of the chest in the room. The stroller folded pretty small and we kept it somewhere I just can't remember where. It is amazing all the stuff you can fit into all the drawers. You'll be fine.

Hi Micluvr

Thanks for the info we are also thinking of cancelling as I have read the other report you talk off and it doesn't sound very good.

We were going to do the same thing. Laurel, our stateroom host, let us know it is prohibited by DCL to store anything on the verandah. What he did was to take our extra luggage and store them....somewhere...I forget where!...and then he brought them to our room on the last sea day:guilty: so that we could pack:sad: Hope that helps.

PS, Hi Gloria!!! Miss dinners with you and Gary. Give him our best!:goodvibes

If you booked with DCL and have their transfers, they will pick you up at your hotel. Didn't do that tour, but the tapas are awesome....and don't forget the wine!!! You CAN have refills.
Enjoy your time....I'm jealous and want to go back!!!

memarmay,

We're flying in that morning, so we're not staying at a hotel. We are taking Disney transport and Disney air. Do you think they'll take us directly from the airport, or from the ship?

Thanks!
