05/09/2009 May 9, 2009 7-Night Eastern St Maarten... Watch Out!

Well if you are flying first class, maybe I will divert to DFW to start off the trip and join you, please!?! :)

Well, it's non-revving...so it's hit or miss. Right now the flight has lots of seats in First, I hope it stays that way. But come on down to DFW! We can have breakfast at one of the fancy restaurants in terminal D.

Finished up my planned expense spreadsheet this morning so I think I am all set with knowing what I need to bring for cash or plan to spend on our debit card. I guess I will hit up the bank next week and get the single bills I will need for tips at various times during vacation and the taxi to Magens Bay.

Scottie....what would you say is a good number of single bills to have? 100? 200? More? I would like to make sure I have enough as well. Thanks! :thumbsup2

Not to be rude or anything but if you don't mind me asking... This is our first cruise and we are unsure how much cash,cc, debit card money we will need. If you could help us that would be great. I know that everyone is different but we are unsure on how much to transfer to different accounts and how much cash to bring. I would say we are your average family that likes drinks, coffee, souvenirs and well as anything else that we may want. We enjoy having a good time on vacation. Just a little help in what others think is a good amount to have on hand would be great.

Here is what I am planning I need cash in pocket for:

Porter (port) and Bell Service (wdw) $15-$20 tips at arrival and departure for our party of six
Magens Bay Travel- $7 or $8 per person each way taxi fare plus tip of $6 each way
Magens Bay Entrance- $24
Room Service tips onboard- $10-$20 (we do not use room service a whole lot)
I also plan to have an extra $100 or so for small purchases off the ship at the ports and whatever else we can’t use the debit card for.

I figure we can use the debit card for most other stuff before and after the trip like a meal in an airport or any larger purchases somewhere at port or WDW.

Four weeks from now:

Okay, I just looked out the window at work and what did I see - Nothing but white stuff coming down! YUCK!!!!!!!!!! May 7th (our fly out day) can't come soon enough. Thoughts of blue water, warm weather and adult beverages can only sustain me so much......

Ahh DFW dining. You know what I miss, Dickey's BBQ. I know it's a chain, but it beats most things we have out here. Of course our Mexican cuisine is a couple of notches better.

Whoa! And I thought our 45 degrees was a cold start at 6 a.m.

You are right; the money families spend onboard varies greatly to say the least!
Being on the cruise can require some self control with spending since your KTTW card is used for everything and charges can just magically start racking up in no time!

For onboard cruise spending and DCL booked excursions, I would say if you have a credit card with a nice available balance just tie that to your room and allow the charges to flow over to it then you can pay it off as you wish with the bill shows up later.
**You can stop by GS desk and get a print out of what you have charged to the KTTW card at any time to keep yourself in check.**

Here are some things that we consider:
-Suggested Tips for our party of 3 adults/3 kids is $504

-DCL booked Excursions are running us about $100, which isn’t very much when it comes to excursions.

-We easily spend $100++ buying stuff in the shops onboard. That can vary up or down based on the cruisers for sure.

-Drinks set us back around another $50, but we don’t get that many.

-Bingo runs a hefty penny- I think I read maybe $60 or $80 for an electronic card. I dont know if we will do it this cruise.

- Off the ship, consider what kind of things you might like to buy- t-shirts, jewelry, etc. and budget for that. We will use cash for smaller items and a debit card for any big purchases we may make off the ship.

- Then we have the addition of the stuff in my prior post for our family, sich as taxi off the boat and Magens Bay on our own.

- Also consider your flights and hotel stay before hand or after. Will you need money for parking at the airport, eating at the airport, lunch/dinner/breakfast at the hotel before the cruise? Do you have a rental or transfers you may need to pay for?

Hope this helps some

Dickies is the best. Yeah, it's a chain...but a local chain at least. They also have the best sweet tea in the world.

YIKES!!! :scared1:

Snow is definitely not conducive to trying on summer clothes and swimsuits. Supposedly the forecast is for upper 70's, lower 80's next week. I can only hope. I keep reminding myself that this is the desert and we need the moisture, but I could do without the cold.

Has anyone ever gone to maps.live.com and zoomed as close to the dock as possible then switch to the "Bird's Eye" view?

If you haven't...do it right away!! It is awesome!

My travel agent emailed me today and said if I re-book onboard she will promise me a $100 shipboard credit per room... very tempting! If they still have the half-price deposit when we sail I think I may cave.

I don't have a travel agent, but would love to take advantage of some of these offers!!

At maps.live.com, just find the port. If you start at MCO Airport, you can follow 528 east until it crosses over the intercoastal water way. You will get to an area that you can see the cruise ships parked at the port (Disney's dock is the diagonal one). You will see an overhead that either the Magic or Wonder is in port. Can't miss the distintive double funnel. There is a Carnival ship in front. Zoom down as close as you can. At that point, you should be able to click the "Birds Eye" link up at the top of the screen.

Then enjoy an AWESOME view.
