04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

Georgie - I am with you on that one....Though I will admit - I am booked on the Dream on Nov 27...I am going to see the holiday decorations!! I just felt I didn't get to see enough of the ship.

I am SO looking forward to knowing where stuff is...and not walking into a bulkhead when expecting to exit the elevators on Starboard!! I literally walked into walls on the Dream :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Most of us seem to want to get to the cruise terminal early :woohoo: ... in order to get early boarding. Accordingly, we are tentatively estimating boarding to begin 7:30AM to 7:45AM, with departure at 8:15AM (from the designated Disneyland hotel). In order to board upwards of 50 guests and their voluminous luggage, we would like to request that those taking the bus be in the designated meeting location (ie: designated hotel lobby), COMPLETE WITH ALL MEMBERS OF YOUR PARTY, AS WELL AS ALL OF YOUR LUGGAGE by 7:30AM. If 50 people show up at 7:45AM or 8:15AM ... we will NOT be able to leave on time. :dance3:

OMG..it was so funny - I must have turned wrong coming out of the mid elevators at least 4 or 5 times...I was aft - so I found going THROUGH Cabana's to get to the elevator a little unusual...the first couple of times the staff stopped me and wouldn't let me go to the elevator. I finally spoke to someone about it and the suddenly no more questions. I guess the staff who work that restaurant didn't realize that those elevators were the primary ones for lots of cabins.

While I was doing my FE delivery (2.5 hrs BTW!!:scared1:) Not only did I give myself a blister (I was almost running to get them done) I lost a few cabins...took me 3 days to find deck 2 cabins! Since ALL the other decks and elevators wouldn't allow one to go starboard I completely missed the cabins on decks 5 & 2 that WERE starboard exits from the elevators...laughed myself silly over that one. I also heard that staff were getting lost on "I-95" in the letter decks.

When you do your online check-in you have to pick a check-in time now. The site shows 10:30 - 11:00 as the earliest but it blocked out and the earliest arrival available to check is 11:00 - 11:30am. I suspect it is because they need to clear the terminal of those disembarking.
 
It is blocked out because so many have already picked it.

I meant, BOARDING THE BUS by 8:00AM. I realize I used the word *boarding* in two sentences ... one referred to the ship, while the other referred to the bus. I recognize it was not stated as clear as it could have been. Accordingly, I went back to modfy the verbiage. Thanks for pointing this out. I have a prepared script, but have to make modifications, as time goes on.

Anyway, based upon projected travel time during AM rush hour, we should arrive at the port in time to be among the first to check in. This also provides for ample time to get pictures of the terminal, ship in port ... and an interim meet.n.greet at the terminal. :woohoo:

The time slots are merely an indication of what time you are planning to arrive ... so DCL can make proper staffing accomodations. Although the concept has merits, there is nothing preventing anyone from arriving earlier, or later than their *anticipated* arrival time. NOBODY will be denied access to the terminal or check in process, based upon their *anticipated* versus *actual* arrival time. Your indicated arrival window has nothing to do with your boarding time, or boarding number.

Ken, thanks for posting the meeting information! You certainly have detailed plans, and contingency plans well in place! :worship:

FWIW, if anyone is interested, I created a two sided insert for use most cruise porfolios (fits perfectly into the DVC portfolio (stateroom gift). Essentially, I measured the horizontal and vertical space available, to insert a piece of semi rigid cardstock ... and printed each side with pertinent details of the cruise(s).

One side lists flight details, shuttle information, hotel reservation / confirmation info., transfers, port address, DCL confirmation #'s, DCL & T/A phone numbers, Castaway Club #'s, and a note for expected SBC.

The other side lists the cruise itinerary (day, date, time & port), as well as reserved excursion information (cost, name, ID, time & DCL code). The name, ID & code is useful to compare to the excursion tickets when delivered to your stateroom. Twice, we have been given incorrect excursion tickets, but since the name was similar, we did not know we had the wrong tickets, until it was too late.

I also have my own personal dining reservations noted on the schedule (Palo tea, brunch, dinner), etc.

The document was made in Microsoft Word, and is preformatted to fit the folio. You can easily modify the document with your own information.

If you are interested in receiving the preformatted document, send me a PM, and include your email address ... so I can send it as an attachment.

As a side note, as many of you know, guests are able to prepay expenses for their cruise folio. You can call DCL (gifts and amenities option) ... give them your credit card information, and prepay a shipboard credit (in any amount desired), which will be posted to your folio prior to boarding. This can be especially beneficial when faced with hefty excursion costs in Alaska. Though you will not *save* money ... you will lessen to amount due at debarkation.

Q - Does anyone know if the payment of our cruise excursions on a Disney Visa can also be extended 6 months just like cruise reservation payments? That would sure come in handy with the AK excursions!

I think not. Unless you can pay for them as part of your cruise up front, they are interest bearing like any other purchase.

I was at the port in January, you won't see the ship very well if at all until you board and there is nothing inside to take pictures of, until the characters come out. It is NOT at all like the DCL terminal in FL, it is used by other lines. Sorry to be the downer.
 
I've been wanting to do this for quite a while ... but never actually made it to a tasting.

1) If you have INTEREST in attending a beer tasting ... but thought it would be better to go with people you know ... keep reading.

2) If you wanted to attend a tasting, but did not want to leave your spouse alone ... keep reading.

3) If you are not 100% sure you will attend, but think you might like to attend ... keep reading.

I propose to take names of those who have INTEREST in attending a DCL beer tasting. Once aboard the ship, I will try to find out WHEN the beer tasting will commence. Once known, I will leave a voice mail message for you (on your stateroom voice mail), alerting you to the date and time. You will handle registration and payment on your own, directly through DCL. If appropriate, I can also leave a message (stateroom voice mail) the evening before the tasting, as noted in the Navigator.

So, if you THINK you would have interest ... send me a PM with your name, DISboard userID, and stateroom # (if known) ... along with whether you want to participate in the REPO beer tasting, ALASKA beer tasting ... or BOTH. I will keep a list ... and notify all appropriate parties when / as needed. :dance3:

Spouses can opt to meet at the event, and head elsewhere during the tasting ... or ... you are usually able to attend as a non drinking guest.

Chime in if you have any other thoughts or suggestions.

Last year for our Baltic Cruise the excursions did not qualify for the 6 month payoff. That is not to say things don't change. I suggest callin Chase and asking them. Sue

I looked at my reservation and found I have main dining. For some reason I thought I had selected second dining - what happened there? But it's all good - my wife let me know she wouldn't be happy with dinner at 8 PM.
