04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

We still have 11 days until we leave, but I will be so busy, so with a cancellation yesterday, I went ahead and packed the "piles." Both big bags feel heavy, so I need Jim to lift them and guestimate the weight! He is really good at that! Just the FE gifts and toiletries left to pack, as well as a pair of shoes and the Mickey Mugs! My little chug, Bindi decided to supervise:

We are booked on the LA to Vancouver cruise May 2012, so I thought I would check out this thread for ideas when I saw this post.

I grew up in the Vancouver area and we would frequently travel to Victoria and one of my favourite memories was visiting Miniature world. I still remember Gullivers travels and I was there in the 70's:lmao:

I hope you all have a great cruise and don't forget to post when you come back!

Thanks so much! Your cruise will be here in no time. I'm sure lots of us will do TRs! There is a great Vancouver Info thread on this forum - lots of great info to help you plan!

We have booked the shuttle from the house to the port!:goodvibes I was wondering if anyone who was coming to Los Angeles early was interested in seeing Walt's Carolwood Pacific Barn and riding on my train on Saturday the 23rd? I have a 1/8th scale engine and it is co-located with Walt's barn at the Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum. Being a member at the museum, the place is open to me anytime and I can coordinate with some of my friends to have the barn opened just for us to see the displays of Walt running his engine at his home. It would probalby have to be either mid morning or mid afternoon so the traffic is not too bad. The Museum website for those considering coming over is www.lals.org The facility is about 40 minutes north of DL off the 5 freeway. PM me if interested.

That is so cool! We will be getting in and family has plans for us already, but thanks for the offer. I hope others are able to join you!:yay:

I've done the 3rd Sunday field trip to Walt's Carolwood Pacific Barn - and it's a really great experience. A neat little pocket of Disney - as a person - not so much the characters - tucked away in the hustle and bustle of LA. It's a quiet experience - just yards away from the I-5 freeway, but you'd never know it.

It's only open to the public on the 3rd Sunday of the month - so if you make it - you'll be glad you did (IMHO).

Hi cruisers you have all been busy!:rotfl2: I am still reading through the posts but wanted to give a SF report.
I have to report that SF is waiting for the Wonder to sail under the GG Bridge! The weather during the day was great. In the low 60's I even got a little sunburn at one of the baseball games. If the weather holds you can wear shorts/lightweight pants during the day however it will be cold at night. I was up to layer 3 at the game on Saturday night. For those of you doing the night tour of Alcatraz it will be even colder.
:worship:For my fellow Giants fans seeing the WS flag raised over ATT and the ring ceremony were AWESOME. I realize nothing new for Yankee fans but it took us 54 years to wind the WS.

For those of you doing the night tour of Alcatraz it will be even colder.Sue

Looks like we will have to be ready for anything! Thanks for the update. We will be doing Alcatraz at night so we will layer, layer, layer!

I can't wait to sail under the Golden Gate Bridge!!!

I wonder how early in the morning we will sail under her on the way into port? And lets hope for clear skys when we sail out for lots of great photos!

I hope DCL will let us know in the Navigator what time we'll be sailing under the GG...I'd hate to miss it!

SF is waiting for the Wonder to sail under the Golden Gate and those of us in the NY tri-state area are waiting to find out when the Magic will arrive in NYC! :yay: I'm sure that there will be a bunch of us there to welcome her!

Thanks for the update! Also the heads up about the layers, since we are taking the Alcatraz night tour.

b/t/w the raising of the WS flag and the ring ceremony is ALWAYS exciting, whether it's the first or the 27th. I always love it when a team that hasn't won for awhile gets to experience it! How great that you were able to be there in person :thumbsup2

Ditto on both your comments!

I wonder how early in the morning we will sail under her on the way into port? And lets hope for clear skys when we sail out for lots of great photos!

.

The itinerary says we will dock at 7:30 AM and leave port the following day at 3 PM.

I hope DCL will let us know in the Navigator what time we'll be sailing under the GG...I'd hate to miss it!

I was just thinking the same thing! Will it be as we sail into port or as we are leaving?

I hope so too! Although I guess there will be some people already up watching the Royal Wedding :bride: :groom:

Since off ship is at 7:30 I would guess we would be entering the gate around 6:00 going pass the furlongs and then under the bridge! We will get to see commute traffic! When we leave on Saturday since it is during the day there is likely to be lots of folks standing on the bridge waving us out to the Pacific! Now that my trip "home" is behind us I am really getting excited. We sail two weeks from today!!!

I was thinking about you when I was watching the ring ceremony and the two games on TV...it was so cool! And such great games to watch. Wish we were there but tickets were so high. Glad you had a great time out here and that the weather was nice. Today looks like it wants to rain again...:sad2:..
but in 2 weeks it will be nice.
BTW good game last night too!:cool1:

Wishing all of you a wonderful cruise. We are Disboard fans who live in San Francisco. I was just leaving a message on the thread for our next cruise on the Wonder in October and thought I 'peak' at the thread for those of you bringing the Wonder to my city for the first time.

I see you have plenty of locals on the thread to give you advise but I thought I'd drop off a couple of images we made to use as door magnets on the PC cruise. Also, a website for 1/2 adventures for the day you will be here (sorry if you already have seen this). Hope you all have a wonderful trip!!

Many happy couples choose to hold their weddings in the lagoon at our Palace of Fine Arts. Our friends, Ariel and Eric just love the location, halfway between the Golden Gate Bridge and Fishermans Wharf. They go just for the halibut and skip the Flounder.

232323232%7Ffp5337%3B%3Enu%3D326%3A%3E3%3C%3B%3E97%3B%3EWSNRCG%3D35%3A%3B5377%3A6329nu0mrj

Mickey & Donald are just getting back from the cheese cellars in wine country. Donald wants to go swimming in Aquatic Park, but Mickey is cuckoo for hot cocoa from Ghirardelli Square.

You'll never guess who we ran into at Chinatown's Dragon Gate at Grant Street! Yes, Mulan and Captain Li Shang! They were shopping for a cricket cage at Ancient Treasures, but Mushu set off a string of firecrackers. A little later we heard police sirens, and we all decided to go jogging to Golden Gate Park.

232323232%7Ffp5338%3A%3Enu%3D326%3A%3E3%3C%3B%3E97%3B%3EWSNRCG%3D35%3A%3B547733329nu0mrj

It was sunset near the Bay Bridge when a young guy in a small ship sailed. "Where away Alcatraz," he called. We pointed north. He said his boys wanted to vist "The Rock". We invited them to join us at the Buena Vista Cafe for Irish Cofee. Later, Peter sailed into Aquatic Park.

232323232%7Ffp5339%3B%3Enu%3D326%3A%3E3%3C%3B%3E97%3B%3EWSNRCG%3D35%3A%3B545445329nu0mrj

North Beach Pizza always gets crank calls to deliver three anchovy pies to Pier 39. But last week this raspy voice called the Buena Vista Cafe near Ghirardelli Square and said to drop off 3 pots of Italian roast at Slip 626.

232323232%7Ffp53399%3Enu%3D326%3A%3E3%3C%3B%3E97%3B%3EWSNRCG%3D35%3A%3B547835329nu0mrj

The strangest dream... I was soaring over California, near my San Francisco home, and decided to zoom and dive in the breeze about Aquatic Park, Fishermans Whaf, and Alcatraz. But then I saw this ship that made me Wonder; Was this Magic, a Dream or do I just live in the happiest city on Earth?

232323232%7Ffp53389%3Enu%3D326%3A%3E3%3C%3B%3E97%3B%3EWSNRCG%3D35%3A%3B54673%3B329nu0mrj

Here is San Francisco, people are just Goofy about riding the cable cars. Sometimes we'll ride one to Fishermans Wharf to get a Ghirardelli's Chocolate milkshake.
