03/08/09 4-night Disney Wonder!!!!

I'm not sure how the FE thing works about having assigned nights or having a different thing for each night. Will someone post here what and how we are going to do the exchange. Thanks

Hi All,

Here's some info on how the FE have worked on other cruises. Simply hang your FE on the metal fish outside your cabin door (the fish is usually used by DCL to leave envelopes, messages, etc.), a wire tie is helpful for attaching your FE to help keep it from "walking off" (use the wire tie to tighten the string loop that goes over the fish so the FE can't just be lifted off). FE don't need to be elaborate, we've seen some that have been a bag labeled "FE" (maybe the original was lost with the luggage :confused3 )

Those participating in the FE exchange bring along whatever gift, trinket, etc. they want. Some of the things we've received on past cruises include candy, postcards from home, a ziplock bag with paper clips, band aids, elastic bands, mini-post-its {all the little things you forget}, homemade luggage tags, little pirate rubber duckies, pirate eye patches, pirate tattos, glow stick necklaces, homemade magnets, bubbles, playing cards, etc. A lot of folks use Oriental Trading Co. or your local party supply store for ideas. Some of the best have been homemade.

Depending on what you give it can be one per cabin or one for each person in the cabin (especially candy); some give different things for adults and children. You don't need to make more than one delivery, i.e. you don't need a new thing each night (on some cruises there have been over a 100 cabins involved! :crazy2: )

When to delivery the FE gifts is up to those doing the giving. There is no assigned day or time, that is part of the fun - coming back to your cabin and seeing what has appeared in your FE. Some deliver early in the cruise, others later, some deliveries are timed to events like Pirate Night. We usually deliver ours on a sea day, it is fun to walk around the ship making the deliveries and seeing others FE and door decorations. (Hint: it is easier to start on the top deck and work your way down)

Some folks add their disboard name, or first names to the gift, others are left secretly.

FE are a fun way to do some more planning before and during the cruise. It started as another way for Disboarders to interact.

So have fun, be creative and remember the luggage weight limits if flying. :lmao: :lmao:

I'll try to pull together a list of folks interested in participating in the FE exchange. It is always easier to know how many gift to have and makes delivery easier if we work from a list. So, if you're interested either post or send me a PM with your cabin number and # of adults/children in your cabin. The list will close about a week before the cruise so folks can have an idea of what to bring.

See you all soon, Bob & Dale (DW) :wave2: :wave2:

I'm not sure how to use the PM but I would like to be added to the list two adults. I'm not sure of my cabin # yet but when I know I will give it to you.

Count us in. We are also two young adults. However we do not have our room number either.

Just an update I just finished my FE for me and my boyfriend:cool1: . And got a few door decorations done, going to work on more tomorrow after class. I also made a piratepirate: shirt for the party. Next up is getting together the gifts for the FE exchange thing I've been thinking of what I'm going to do. Not too much longer until we set sail on my first cruise ever!!:hyper:

We aren't going to join in the FE this time. We are trying to reduce our luggage requirements for our flight and we will need any and all space in what we are taking for our two teenage daughters (who have trouble not taking their whole wardrobes with them).

It sounds like fun though! I hope the rest of you enjoy it.

Good Evening Fellow Cruisers! My Kansas Girlfriends and I are joining this cruise - a girlfriend getaway. We are all very excited. Two of them have never been on a cruise. One has been on one HA cruise. This will be my 5th Disney cruise - they are absolutely the very BEST!!!! Wrabitdad (Bob/Dale) please count us in for the FE. Don't you know Debbie wishes she had a nickel for every fish extender used on a Disney cruise since she invented this fun activity. I will get started on mine right away - off to the Dollar Store to get a shoe bag to decorate. Yes, it is fun to also do door decorations. The metal sheets go through my printer perfectly. If you are looking for ideas scroll down the disboard site to designs and check out the designers that would be glad to make you a door design - free of charge. When we sailed on the Transatlantic 2007 to Barcelona I had a new door magnet for each special day courtesy of these nice ladies. Bob and Dale I believe I have a picture of
you two from that trip - a small world. Glad you volunteered to organize this activity - 4 days versuses 14 days will be much easier to do. On the Barcelona trip we had 112 fish extenders to fill - it sounds like we might have 10 on this trip. I still chuckle when I think of the huge duffle bag I took on board full of FE gifts. My husband thought I had completely lost it. It was so much fun. I agree it is fun walking the halls of every deck to see which doors are decorated and have fish extenders. Hopefully we can all meet up at the sailaway party or the Pirate Party.

I am a CM (part-time, retired school teacher) at Epcot (wedding/convention guide) - absolutely love my job. My daughter also did 2 Disney college program interships when she was a student at University of Kansas. So I will be glad to share info on that program too. My daughter said it was the best thing she did in college. When she interviewed for a job after graduation all they wanted to talk about was her Disney internships - not her grades or other internships. Keep encouraging your daughter to do this - it is an amazing adventure. My daughter ended up as a Director at Disney for awhile and is now a Vice-President of a company in Ft. Lauderdale - dreams do come true when you have that Disney experience.

Looking forward to meeting all of you. Anna:cool1: :cool1:

Just wanted to know if we were going to do a meet before we board? Like maybe at the port. Or after we board? I see that some people do it at the pool before lunch or dinner. Haven't heard anyone talk about it yet. Hope everyone is getting ready and making their FE's and door decorations.

Amanda:beach:

I have only been to 2 DIS meets, but both of them have been in the Promenade Lounge an hour before the safety drill (around 3:00 or 3:30 I thnk).

At port people would be arriving at different times and will want to board as soon as possible (I would think, I know we do). We are flying in the night before and staying at the Boardwalk. We have a limo service picking us up so I am not sure what time we will get to the port this time (in the past we have rented a car and gotten there when they open).

But whatever works best for everyone else. Maybe other experienced cruisers have found a better time/place to meet on past cruises.

I just thought we could do a meet up sometime because I don't know my cabin number and I won't know till probably day of checking in and I want to make sure everyone has my cabin number for the FE gift exchange. I have made my FE and door signs so I would like my cabin number to be in the mix if I'm going to also had out goody bags. We can plan when it gets closer to time. Thanks for the information

Hi All,

Here's what I gleaned from the posts for folks interested in the FE. If you see a "?" it means the information is missing. While names aren't required having cabin number is obviously useful. If you're GTY let me know as soon as you know your cabin number.

DisName Names Cabin #
SeeDisney ? ?
Ladywine Bryna (DW), Ross (DH), DS (8), DS (5 1/2) ?
fbtbdisney Teri (DW), DH ?
Wrabitdad Bob (DH), Dale (DW) 2060
Sccrmnky2005 Amanda, Milton GTY
DisneyCP08 Katie, ? GTY
nanaguide Anna, ?, ?, ?, ?

If you don't think you'll have your cabin number until you check in, we'll post the list on our cabin door and you can leave a message.

As far as a meet on the ship many Dis meets have taken place on Deck 10 starboard side overlooking the Goofy pool before and during the sailaway party. That way it doesn't interfere with folks getting settled into cabins, kids club, etc., most folks will be on deck anyway for the sailaway.

Bob & Dale :wave2:

Wrabitdad,

Thank you for organizing the fish extenders. I'd like my children to participate.

I just like to say that I was really hoping to see a lot more kids on this cruise. My kids like meeting friends with other kids. Especially my oldest son.

Here's my kids,

DS 12, a/k/a a "chick magnet"
DD 10, a girly girl with a maturity "air" about herself
DS 6.5, typical boy
DS 3.5, again, typical boy

I'm not sure of the cabin ## yet, we have connecting rooms, inside on the lower deck, I think Deck two, cat. 10.

:cool1: I do not know my room number yet, but as soon as I find out I will let you know. It will be me (Katie) and Jon.:beach:

Also I like wrabitdad's idea about meeting before or during the sail away party, that way we have enough time and we dont miss it. :earsboy:

Thanks for the update. Hopefully we will get a few more people involved in the FE. It will be great fun. Thanks for organizing it also. I will def let you know when get our cabin number, also will have my names on my door along with sccrmnky2005 so it will also be noticed.

Just wanted to remind everyone if they are going on the snorkling adventure to bring an underwater camera. Walmart has two different ones to choose from ranging from $9-$10. I'm sure if you get on the ship you can buy one for about $20.00. So make sure you get them next time you are out. They are great to have!!

These are nice to have on CC if you don't want to worry about your digital camera laying around while you are out in the water. There aren't any lockers on CC (I with there were) so all of your stuff end up laying by your chair. So if you want to take pictures on the island you may want one of these (even if you aren't snorkling).

Are you guys talking about the disposable cameras? We are doing the extreme getaway package on castaway cay that includes the stingray excursion, and so I have been debating about what type of camera. The waterproof casing for my camera is extremely expensive and I don't want to loose it in the water. So, I have been comparing the disposable to the cheap water proof digital cameras. I have read a lot of reviews on the digital one, and there are good and bad things about it. Can't make a decision!!!

Yes, that is what I was talking about. But, I am sure the pictures on a digital camera are much better. A lot of people bring their cameras onto the beach and I don't remember reading about anyone having problems. I just tend to worry a lot and we are not really into taking a lot of pictures, so I prefer the disposable ones.
